@@jangyman I'm loving this bike! I'm getting more and more comfortable & confident with every ride. I'm going faster and faster each time, but I'm still learning the local trails by my house. One of my main goals is to not kill myself, I still haven't gone down on the bike, but I'm sure its coming eventually. When I first started riding the bike I had different people telling me either "You should have went L" or "XL is the right size you" until I get a chance to ride the Large, I won't know for sure. I would much rather have the Deore 12 speed setup than the SX Eagle. This and the Fuse 27.5 have been on my list of things I want, but don't need. Still rolling on my 2015 Specialized Camber Comp Evo which is, in my eyes, very similar to what bike manufacturers are calling a "down country" bike. Here in central Texas, 120-140mm travel bikes seem to be perfectly adequate for the terrain when combined with larger volume tires. I have been toying with getting another hardtail to complement my full-squish bike, but I am also toying with the idea of upgrading to a new full-squish bike. I really think the 27.5 model would be more to my liking, but I wish it was spec'd out the same as the 29 Comp because I would like the little nicer fork, brakes, and drivetrain.
@a.l.86183 жыл бұрын
The comp still lacks the ability to accommodate a good rider. Brakes is underpowered…The fork is total junk. My seat is broken after 4 rides. Lever for dropper post is already sticking after 4 rides. This bike is under spec’d. I can take this on trails but the compense are total crap. The bike industry is now for rich weenies. Gotta spend $3,500 to get a decent hard tail…in this aluminum crap frame. So fragile. The bottom bracket creaks already because there are no seals for the internal cable routing. So much chainslap. Not a good chain guard.

I suspect that is production limitation/cost related. These brands are fighting for an assembly line to get bikes built right now and no doubt that drives up cost. I've seen a few brands with small do price increases recently and I suspect it is related.

If you have fast flowy mountain trails the Fuse may be a better option. Fuse has slightly more slack (Fuse 66.5, Chisel is 68 degrees) -and has a longer more forgiving 130mm travel fork. Will inspire confidence to a beginner. Also comes with a dropper post. The Chisel is going to more xc inspired. Will be lighter because no dropper or longer travel fork. 2 piston brakes on Chisel compared to 4 piston on Fuse. Chisel will climb slightly better.

after 6 rides...these brakes are so underpowered...derailure has play. Have had to tighten my rear axle quite a bit. The tube-less tires can't handle hard cornering. I am only 180 lbs and I keep folding the tires no matter what tire pressure I run or I case it on a root because it's too soft. or just a couple of feet of air means a sketchy landing unless I use the max tire pressure or more... It's great for climbing but at any speed, these tires wash out and fold. I guess I need a heavier tire or something with better casing. But seriously...these brakes are terrible. I might go mullet to make it more playful...it's not as playful as reviewed.

It's the rim width that's the real problem, 29mm internal is too narrow for such a wide tire.

Thats not going to happen for atleast aother 10-14mo. You should just get one from a shop that has open pre-orders. If you do that you will have the best chance of riding one.

@@Jamesthebikeguy I know ☹️ I really just want to get my hands on one, but shops around here rarely even have rock hoppers

You might want to look at Canyon mountain bikes...They have some models that are still in production. They come and go quick as the demand is high. I just bought a Canyon Exceed CF7 (carbon)😁

Loose rear axle. Broken seat. Sticky drop post lever, underpowered brakes. Tires that wash out and fold at recommended pressure. A shock that does not take out any small bumps. On my 7th ride rocks kicked up and broke my rear brake line.

Not chain guard.

I'd say its pretty par for the course on hardtails in the $1500-2000 range, the scout 290 comp comes in around 29lbs as well. Let's not pretend anybody is out here buying brand new 22lb carbon hardtails for $1800

Test rode one today, red with silver accents, size L with innertubes and all the reflectors, it was rolling very well until I climbed up a short 6% grade... this is a boat anchor uphill. My full suspension Pivot pedals uphill with less effort. This bike felt like it weighed 34 lbs.

What are the weights of the wheels? Would it be a bad idea to put a 27.5 in the back?

Did you end up doing a 27.5?

@@sadcat520 I actually did. It works fine on this bike particularly because you can adjust where the axis sits on the rear wheel.
