What a wonderful ceremony! I had a great time sharing a few drams with the community and watching some great distilleries and whiskies get their due recognition. Salute to the hard work put into all of this. The trending data really shows where the whisy enthusiasts are leaning towards. Yes, the blended whiskies and the diluted, anemic whiskies will always sell more, but for those of us who appreciate the good stuff, we have each other. It is a great comfort. Thank you Roy and Ralfy (and all the contributors)!

I think the genius of the OSWA's is having the people's choice along side the category winners. It really brings the whole community into play and make's the contest even more credible. Fun to see Arran win first one, since it was Arran first, that was the bottle that got me into collecting. Of the, I think 2748, bottles bottled from that first distillation, I bought three. We're all Benromach fans, I wonder if their core range holds them back, I certainly recommend the CS regularly, but the flavour profile they have it seems criminal diluting it, especially at 15 and 21 years old, I bet it would sparkle if it was handled a bit better. Loved the Ardnamurchan 46% & the CS & Just started the powers John Lane which I highly recommend plus the Balconne Brimstone. Have just ordered a Redbreast Yellow & Green Spot so the Irish are sharing space with my Scotch.Congratulations.🎉😊🇨🇦🇨🇦👍👍

Well I don't know much but this looks like a revolutionary movement in all the very best ways. The production values here were astonishing and appear consummately professional. One would guess there was a large professional staff behind the scenes but we know there was not. KUDOS!

Interesting opportunity I had last week to see the impact of time on an open bottle. Our daughter and son-in-law gave me a bottle of Blanton’s single barrel 2 years ago. They purchased a bottle of the same barrel for themselves and opened it immediately. In the last two years they have consumed half. I did not open mine until last week when we were visiting them and we were able to compare the same barrel with opening time two years apart. The taste was significantly different. The one opened earlier was not bad, but it had lost a lot of what it originally was. The opened bottle was stored out of light and in a temp controlled environment.
@Aqvavitae2 жыл бұрын
Rare to have such an opportunity! It's not always a linear line (decline or ascent) though, some whiskies flicker and switch over their time in the open bottle, not all act in the same way.

@@Aqvavitae absolutely it did or to put more accurately it reaffirms my taste in scotch. I discovered both your’s and Ralfy’s channels a couple of years ago and I’ve taken all the advice from the two of you. I have a solid understanding of whisky thanks to a handful of whisky tubers and the core of my 160 bottle whisky collection was in large part influenced by you and Ralfy. I truly appreciate what you’ve done with your content. Keep up the good work.

Absolutely spectacular online OSWA awards!! I had heard of this broadcast/award program and I am so happy to finally have found it to watch. This was so well done! Thanks Ralfy and Roy! Women also love fine single malt whiskies and although we aren't well represented in terrific KZbin channel programs, we are out here and enjoy this outstanding spirit so much! I'm sipping on a Lagavulin 16 and damn it's getting expensive but I do keep going back to it! AnCnoc 18 and Bruichladdich Sc:01 2012 are my favourite pours right now but of course this changes all the time!! I can't forget Octomore 13.3! It's a huge favourite!! Huge kudos to Glenallachie 12 have to be given! Talk about a excellent quality for the price! $It's about $100.00 in Vancouver. Okay one more! Aberlour 18!! These all have constant places on the bar I share with my husband!! Cheers and huge thanks!! 🙂

Thanks Christine, so glad to hear how much you’re enjoying your malts and your spot on your favourites will change all the time. If you look at the whiskies in these categories, the vast majority either didn't exist or were very poor, huge step up in enjoyment and that's why these brands are being celebrated and talked about today!

Loved it loved it loved it! Glued to the screen for all three and a half hours. Soon to run into town to get a bottle or two of Glen Scotia Victoriana. I'm wondering about the future regarding NAS whisky. Is this going to be the great new development? New to me perhaps because I'm a complete noob in the world of SM. Is this the wave coming towards us? Or not.

Fantastic event, well done Roy and Ralfy.. I thoroughly enjoyed watching while sipping an award winner! Arran 10 was in my glass while watching along! QUESTION! I must have missed the explanation. Why is there a difference in the peoples choice vote in some categories and the whiskys that actually won the awards??
@Aqvavitae2 жыл бұрын
There's a vote for the nominated whiskies - six in each category. However, people also have the option to enter (as free text!) anything they like for consideration. We collate all of these entries and generate a Top 10 People's Choice 'chart' that has nothing to do with the award, but it informs us if we're on track or not and also lets the community know what's being loved out there. It's also useful to the industry. It's easy for them to monitor what they sell, but this helps inform what being enjoyed. This 'People's Choice' for information only, it isn't an award. I hope that helps Ross!
@lukashavel76902 жыл бұрын
First and foremost a great show! Thank you to all the people involved! Secondly Arran 10, Deanston 12, Compass Box Orchard House... Well deserved wins. All of them! My takeaway though is, that the new Kilkerran 12 bottle got a bit worse (see the difference in its placements). It is still available in Europe. There is not much of a difference in that aspect from the "thin" bottle. Yet it is way more expensive, less Glengyle and more Springbank. By that I mean, that it lost its own Glengyle magic. It is now more smooth (ie less interesting), less peaty and there is more of that Campbeltown funk (Why? For that we have Springbank already...). It is still a great dram, dont get me wrong. It just has lost its specific mojo. So I would like to ask J & A Mitchell & Company to give us the old Kilkerran 12 back! Until then Compass Box Orchard House has, strangely, some of the tasting notes I miss in the new Kilkerran 12 (I made my own comparison of the three bottles yesterday during the show). So I will be buying that one.
@Aqvavitae2 жыл бұрын
I think as Kilkerran matures and uses some older stock in the vattings that could be what you've experienced? Just guessing but it certainly reads like you enjoy your spirit-forward expressions, me too. Cheers Lukáš!
@lukashavel76902 жыл бұрын
@@Aqvavitae You are probably right. It feels more like a younger version of the current Kilkerran 16 rather than a new expression of the old Kilkerran 12. Cheers Roy. ;)

Love the OSWAs! What a great model, and so glad to see it come to life! Well done to all involved in putting this together. As for Springbank, I cannot relate to, because it is simply not accessible to the average consumer. Not a knock on them whatsoever, but What a shame that most won’t be able to get their hands on it.

Great oswas, congratulations! I Would love some flavor/sensation categories - smokiest, fruitiest, most savory, most bitter, Most dry. Please invite Nivla, from “Nivlas’ nightcap notes” next year. He has a small KZbin following, but he’s consistent, knowledgeable and entertaining. Plus nivlas’ voice from down under can really help us weave the oswa community larger worldwide. Cheers!
