what's your favorite or most used 35mm film camera?
@joseerazevedo8 күн бұрын
I've one and love it. It's Nikon's last prosumer film camera. I find it a great link between my manual Nikons and my digital one as its buttons are on the same place as the D700 and I can use all my manual lenses on both too. All the points you mentioned are what make the F100 so special. Thanks for the video!

F100 was my first upgrade from P&S and one year in I am still in love, an absolute beast + can be found in a flawless condition + looks great + affordable. I am now thinking about pairing it with an FA (can't sacrifice P mode) so that I would have F100 with a G zoom and FA with a fancy retro prime. But FAs are in far worse condition on average, so I'm struggling with the choice...

I picked up an f100 in great condition 2 years ago and haven’t looked back. It’s an absolute workhouse and in my experience with it, allows me to focus on capturing what I want because it just works.

WOW the fact you dropped mos' black on both sides reference just makes this review all the more valid. I use/love my Nikon N75 but have been eying this as an upgrade. Nice work!

Well I’ve had the f100 sitting on my shelf for about six months because I was sidelined with an injury but saw your video and just recently was mobile again so I got up and got it. Really have to take out the manual and relearn it really from scratch. Thank you for creating the motivation. It’s one of seven vintage film bodies I have now but my latest purchase film body purchase. Have two D lenses with AF but what is the best lens to use with it? Wish me luck and take care.

I just got recently the F80. A really good alternative to the F100 and a fraction of the price.

The F100 is great, I had one for around 15 years, in the same time I've had a Canon EOS 3, which I bought a couple of years before. Eventuallly the rubber on the F100's film back became very sticky, which is well known to anyone who's owned one of these for long enough, and also a problem with a lot of early Nikon DSLRs, especially the D70. More certainly the diopter became disconnected from the pin on the diopter adjustment knob inside the viewfinder, causing a shaking viewfinder view that would float in and out of focus. I manged to fix that, bought an F5, and sold the F100 afterwards. In that same time the EOS 3 has been bulletproof, not a single thing has gone wrong with it. The F100 is great, I love the feel and the build, and the use of AA batteeries, but it's not flawless. Other film camera favorites include the Canon T90, Contax Aria, and Nikon F4, I actually prefer the F4 to the F100 as well, the problem is The F4 was a pro photo journalist camera when film SLRs were still the only choice, so a lot of them have taken far more abuse than the typical F100.

Great video. I think for most people the F100 is a better choice than the F5 unless they are shooting sports. And I don't anyone is shooting sports on film. And even if they did the F100 is still perfectly capable. The staggering thing about the F100 is the price. It is one of the best film cameras ever, highly versatile, extremely robust and decent looking too. That makes the new film cameras by Rollei and Pentax seem pointless to me. They are more expensive and way less capable. Cute and vintage-looking can only take you so far. During my film days the F100 was my dream camera but could never afford one. Not into film now, but if I was, the F100 is the one.

@@bencompson thanks, and thanks for watching! yeaa, the f5 can shoot a few more fps and a few other things but imo not worth the price jump. i wholeheartedly agree with everything you said here. do you still shoot at all, and if so, what are you using these days?

Ear Buds - Why did you mentioned them, Did you know that the F100 has the Same AF module like the F5?, also that if you place a Nikon MB15 grip it will increase the frame to 5 frames than the 4 without it, and also it powers the camera longer. And I would not recommend rechargeable AA batteries. Just the standard Alkaline as you want to keep the voltage correctly right for the F100, and also that the F100 is the 5th model that held the start of the F series like F60, F70, F80, and F90. And as for the lenses that I too have the F100 with the MB15 grip, and Nikkor manual lenses converted to AI as loving the look of what I have been using since 1975.

Great camera! The only issues I’ve had with mine are battery pack (the plastic is thin at some points and easy to snap), and the plastic clasp that closes the back is known to fail. Nothing is perfect or lasts forever.

I had a Nikon F100 camera - I thought it was far the best 35 mm film camera at the time for the amount of money spent. A hell of a lot of camera for the money, but not exactly in the same league as the VERY best Nikon 35 mm film cameras. VALUE was the name of the game for me, and the F100 surely offered it -

I like more F4 than F100 or F5. 100% finder Viewfinder switch. Less expensive. All F lens cam be mounted, even No AI lens. No lcd (screen lcd doesn't live eternally). All dials even dial exposure at top of the camera. Matrix exposure is amazing.
