Don't be so sure about this, I had a laptop that got over heated with normal usage, no over clocking after only 2 years at most. When I looked inside it it was burnt, around the CPU socket. My gigabyte and Asus GPU cards on the other hand, usually outlast their usefulness.

Did I just see you put PTM7950 on the core of that card? Thought I saw you cut some out of a sheet. I really like that stuff, it's excellent on thermally problematic devices (especially extremely thin laptops). BTW, anyone using PTM7950, I recently learned a neat trick: stick it in the freezer ~15 minutes before applying. It's easier to manage when cold, and it makes removing the protective film without lifting the sheet off the die easier. When cold, the compound is a bit more rigid (giggidy!), but still retains its stickiness. Work kinda quick though, as it doesn't stay that way for long. Great video as usual brother! 🙂👍

Nah, lower smoke/fire probability, that's the aim of these fuses. Honestly speaking, almost nobody attempts repairs like Tony did here. It's just too time consuming without guarantee that it'll actually work after that -> too high chance of wasted effort.

in my experience, MSI is also the only graphicscard manufacturer, who actually tests the Graphicscard before sending a quote when something is not covered by warranty and offer a reasonable quote for repair. Since I am the "PC guy" for my entire extended family, I tend to rma alot of cards, and MSI was always "this and this is the issue according to the lab, its covered under warranty" or "its not covered under warranty, labour is xx€ and parts xx€, we can send you a replacement card and fix this one". Very cool tbh. And you dont need the receipt. If you have a vendor that accepts 3rd party RMAs, you can use that, pay the fee (here in Germany Media Markt does that, 3rd Party RMA cost is 30€, and MSI just works of the manufacturing date and applys their warranty to that with some buffer. e.g. manufacturing date is 3 years and 2 months ago, warranty is 3 years, they ususally still fix it/ replace your card, and RMA is also fairly quick. They test the card through, as soon as they found the issue, they send you a card that they fixed in previous RMA and fix yours for the next one. When my RMA took ~1 month to come back, they even sent me a gaming mouse as compensation for my 2 weeks longer than stated wait time (which is still used by a friend 4 years later). Ngl, thats why I am willing to pay more to get an MSI card

We usually get that when an igbt becomes a sooty skidmark, the gate sends stuff back into the driver circuits and takes them out. I suspect that mosfet did the same to the controller. The igbt's I work on are the size of a gpu, it builds character.
