These multi layer repairs are fascinating. And you make it look so easy. I've repairing pcbs for decades, but never attempted something like that. Absolutely great job!

It's so remarkable that Tony does a better job explaining the repair process at double speed than other electronic wizards here on The Tube can do a normal speed. Tony must be plugged into high voltage.

@Uncle-Duncan-Shack3 сағат бұрын
We usually get that when an igbt becomes a sooty skidmark, the gate sends stuff back into the driver circuits and takes them out. I suspect that mosfet did the same to the controller. The igbt's I work on are the size of a gpu, it builds character.

Is it possible to have you add fuses the cards as a service?
@teddpСағат бұрын
That's an interesting idea but since that wasn't considered while designing the board, there are no traces or silkscreen or anything that could be used to put one. I'm not an expert like Tony but that's my two cents.

Awesome work Tony, make it look easy! Those brown ish layers you put on the Dremel repairs, was that a resin glue? Or just another colour dollare mask? I recently repaired by first motherboard, was about 7 traces cut from a screwdriver slip on the gpu lever (not by me i will add, i bought the board as broken) and was in two minds whether to coat it with something like Araldite (be a strong repair but won't come off easy if future repair needed) or order some solder mask. I just coated it with hot glue in the mean time haha
@kepler1042 сағат бұрын
The fuse is only on the 12v line which powers vram phases, other high power stuff is not fused. And still it made a big burn in the board and fuse didnt fully blow up, which is not really a good look imo.

@Iscandelt19 минут бұрын
Nah, lower smoke/fire probability, that's the aim of these fuses. Honestly speaking, almost nobody attempts repairs like Tony did here. It's just too time consuming without guarantee that it'll actually work after that -> too high chance of wasted effort.

Lots of things to take in, in this video of yours Tony. First of all I still got the question, was it the PSUs fault that all this damage happened? Second, this case simply showcases your level of competence. You seriously could be the best in this field. Third I wish Asus and the other idiot manufacturers that have no shame selling a $2,000 video card without putting a fuse that would cost them a few pennies more, see this video. And last but most important of all, I hope your mother is better.
