my take on the dark elf thing : Their list is more glaringly unfinished / unbalanced because they have a mirror army in the High Elves you can look at and see the discrepancies. Dark elf is my favorite army to play and lorewise but they are last on my list for playing in old world atm because of their spotty rules. Im happy playing my orcs , goblins and vampire counts until the dark elf are patched .

First off, as always, love you guys. Secondly: I'm a Dark Elf main and I have, what I think is, an extremely competitive list. How do I get into the SBOT. I dont care if I wont qualify to win cause I'm maybe a bit too late, but the world needs to know how good they can actually be. For the sake of Warhammer DEI (lol) put me in, coach! @@alagass6466 it is an amazing way to practice the game. You will need other resources such as the rulebooks, and an army list builder such as New Recruit. Warhall is just the a platform to play the game, think of it as the models and game table.

I do the happy happy joy joy dance whenever a new square based show drops :). Regarding the Dark Elves, I planned to join the first SBOT, even got in contact with Hugo and got a nice warhall demo and an explanation on how he uses his DE list and even tested my own list two times, however work and kids got in the way. Will try to join the next one. One more thing, where I am based in Andalucia the legacy lists are not allowed as of now in TOW tournaments, might be in the future. Another thing, there is a huge scene of people playing the 6th edition. And to me it looks more numerous than the TOW scene, although sometimes it is overlapping. So, little incentive for a lot of these players to move to TOW, especially for legacy list players. And there are a lot of DE players! a lot! Regarding the list: the manticore gives only T4, although in the chaos list it gives T5 and the griffon which is similar also gives T5; the corsairs have been nerfed and have no real role, there is no pegasus option for the noble and lords, no dragon option for the beastmaster, bolt throwers had a serious nerf: no more 6 s4 shots and -1 to shoot for multi shot, lack of magic items that could help the aggressive dark elf play style. Seriously lacking in the banner section, well, in the magic items in general. The murderous rule which is pointless and I presume we pay for it with no added benefit. Regarding TOW in general, I would want to see a nerf on the lvl3/4 so they get only +2 to cast and dispel, or even a return to 6th with +2 to cast and +1 to dispel. The rest of magic works fine, best so far. I would like to see the hand weapon and shield come back to at least some of the infantry units. I would like to see a reduction in points across the board to infantry and +1 to combat resolution for outnumbering.The result would be larger blocks of infantry that could deal with dragons via superior CR. Do I win with them? yes, playing magic heavy lists. Do I play fluffy lists? hell no! and this is an issue. I have 100 corsairs I won't field!! I have 30 executioners that I won't field. I have 30 blackguards from which I might field 10 as an anvil unit. I have 5 different assassins that will stay in their box. I have a lot of chars on foot, from which I will only field the magic wielders. Keep up the amazing work you do!! You are one of the reasons I came back to warhammer after almost 20 years!!!

The dark elf list isn't great, but only for competitive gaming. The core choices are weak, the stuff you have to take. That said, I have used mine in narrative campaign gaming vs High Elves in 8 games now, won 4, lost 4... nowt wrong with them if you play fluffy... They did get mashed by Empire (another weak list , really, not for ?) but the list was poor for facing a gun line, and got shot the pieces by cannons and handgunners... and, the goblin fanatic rules are terrible for this edition, the most wild whirling devishes loons are now the most reliable troops, seems odd. They aren't hit or miss anymore, they are almost always hit... that don't feel right. Poor games design.

I very much disagree with the leadership ruling. Inspiring Presence clearly states you can use the general's leadership characteristic instead of their own. That is now their leadership characteristic. If they have modifiers to their leadership it affects this new characteristic as well. Are you also saying that you ignore the modifiers for break tests if you use inspiring presence? If yes you've massively changed how the game operates, if no then why make a distinction between this test and every other test?

I think you misunderstood. If the generals leadership is modified then it is modified when you use inspiring presence. It is not then modified again by effects on the unit. All modifiers to leadership modify the unit/targets leadership characteristic. If you're using the general's that means you're not using your own and therefore those effects do not carry over as written.

I think Val said it: when people can play anything, they're playing what they LIKE. I love to see that. Regarding the Empire specifically, I don't think there's anything more Warhammer than a bunch of regular human guys with pointy sticks and crude guns trying to survive in a world full of fantasy creatures who mostly want them dead (which is why I always disliked Demigryph Knights, which didn't exist until 8th ed. WHFB).

Skaven feels bad, they super "normalized" them. They gave their army special rule to everybody (strength in numbers=warband), and all their weird stuff got blanded. I miss their unique misfire charts. Also, Kislev please. And Dogs of War. The missing pieces of Warhammer.

This really shows that people just want to play with the toys they are given, supported by the huge bias towards armies with Arcane Journals. Vampire Counts being "competetively strong" might help, but I assume people are drawn more to the massive range available to them. Online, offline, in the end people play with what they like and what offers them the biggest potential for fun.

Great that you developped an FAQ, I feel it is a must for any TO. What grinds my gears is that many of the rules were pulled from previous editions where they had to be FAQ'ed because they were not fully explained back then either. Knowing that, the writers should have looked at those questions and ensured that a response is included together with their explanation in the TOW rulebook. I am not saying that the old answers should have been kept, this is a new edition after all, but for sure they should not have been left unanswered in the big blue book. That's just repeating past mistakes. end rant 😄

The thing with orc and goblins is the fact that a lot of minies from AOS range are perfectly fit for Old World. It seems logical to me that sales would be lower than the two factions that dont have any minies from the other ranges. Any sane salepeople would look at minies that can only be found there to evaluate interrest and those kind of stuff, like doomdivers and troll hag, effectively went out of stock

Hope you had a fun birthday Val. I’m glad to see that even when given the opportunity to be competitive, people still want to play the armies they enjoy the most for what appears to be non-competitive reasons. This keeps me hopeful that the TOW community is closer to HH community than 40K/AOS communities in that feels like it can sometimes favor fun/flavor over efficiency and streamlined gaming. That efficient play style is fine but I’m still planning to bring hand guns as empire because they look cooler than crossbows 🤷‍♂️

I think the issue about the unit being in combat still blocking the characters really sucks, but I can also see how important it is. Have some cheap unit charge a big block knowing it will lose. Once they are tagged then cannon all the spell casters hiding behind. If they are not in combat, they are not an eligible target, so I don’t like it, but probably better for the game.

Wood Elves were very niche in WHFB and the models are extremely expensive second hand. It is just too damn hard to get the models at the moment and I have not really seen any 3D prints that capture the WHFB era wood elf aesthetic.

GT winners have assumed that it would play the other way while theory crafting from Max cooper "It was my vid that was discussing it (In the latest tournament rundown where Richy the guest had got best overall (wins/painting/sport combined) So we had a bit of discussion on this last night and I’ve actually just emailed GW (not that that usually does much, but fingers crossed it’s in the next FAQ making it not work that way) More thought out logic on it: (taking info on p109) The logic was Bound items don’t make the model a wizard… Wizardly dispel says your (dispelling) wizard has to be in range of the casting wizard But there is no casting wizard for a bound spell cos the models not a wizard So you can’t wizardly dispel a bound items spell BUT fated doesn’t include the stipulation it’s just you get to make the roll That was the logic behind it when we were talking on it. But increasingly I am considering learning Warhall and jumping over to your patreon/discord (unemployment sucks but I'm also procrastinating so there's that) because well, I'm that guy that loves hordes and if the rule of 3 didn't exist I'd run the 901 model Ogor army because, reasons. Am settling for at least 300 models (gnoblars who doesn't love the little fellows?) and going from there. Because no one seems to be embracing the true hordes from what I can see and this needs to be rectified! :D Anyhow, shall watch the new episode shortly, love your work guys.

i will always play skaven to make people sad with how bad skaven are. theres not a single good unit nor item in this list. they removed slaves and made clanrats expensive. vampire counts can have zombies, we cant have cheap bodies? theres nothing fun in skaven. i cant fire artillery and have fun, i cant have elite infantry and have fun, i cant have cool items and have fun, i cant find any fun. also why removing every mount? why not bringing new units in? vampires got new units, where are my brood horrors? where are wolf rats? and draged along is the worst shit rule of the year, its only there because the base size of units like the bell doesnt match the new 25mm bases to fit in units, they stayd on 60x100, they should have gotten 75x100, or 75x125, analogue to the 20 to 25 increase, the old base is too small anyway, doomwheel overhangs, bell and cannon barely fit on them. even units where it doesnt make any sense got bigger bases like giant rats. i also have vampire counts, but people forget that not vampire counts are good, necromancers are good, vampires got nerfed, they are worse than humans... the profile of vampires got down, blood knights should be better than grail knights in profile stats, grail knights have better stats than blood knights, thats wrong. vampire lords are cowards, they cant have armor to get with blood knights, they cant cast in armor to use magic, they are limited to artificial level3, whats wrong with vampire lords beeing like chaos lords? why chaos warriors can have that, but vampires need to be weaker than a human. its a shitty mess, like everything gw produces. we need to rework half of the armies as a community. another thought, im only able to tell this is shit, because it wasnt shit before. the very same game and armies were fun and not shit, gw removed the fun and made it shit. im aware that gw might have removed slaves, like chaos dwarf labours, because of the fact that they arent well paid and happy beings, warhammer is quite dark, i dont think this is the case, but this is something rainbow gw would do.

In regards to the SB FAQ. Q.47 Inspiring presence - ...Ignore any modifiers to the LD when using IP... Losing in combat modifies the units LD characteristic. By your ruling on IP losing combat has no effect other than to take a test at full LD.

It does not. Read the rules again. To make a Break test, roll 2D6 and modify the result by adding the difference between the winner's and the loser's combat result scores. Then, compare the result to the unit's Leadership characteristic.... The leadership characteristic is unmodified by the break test. That's actually why penalties to LD characteristics are compounding on break tests. The break test itself doesn't modify LD at all.

What is generic fantasy setting. People say that like it’s a bad thing but the setting goes back to the 70’s. Is it generic or is it the original that everyone else has copied so it seems “generic.” (Yes I know warhammer ripped off Tolkien and basically everyone else’s but when they put it all together, it’s pretty original.)
