In this video, we’re going to talk about the only carb that doesn’t influence insulin.
The only carbohydrate that doesn’t influence insulin is fiber.
The problem is, fiber-rich foods often have high carbs that do influence insulin. This includes bread, pasta, cereal, crackers, potatoes, and rice.
Pure fat does not trigger insulin. However, carbs and excessive amounts of protein will.
The best sources of fiber are non-starchy vegetables.
On Healthy Keto, you want to keep your carbs under 30 grams per day. However, you do not need to count your carbs when you’re eating leafy green vegetables on keto-they contain enough fiber that the net carbs are insignificant.
I always say that 7 to 10 cups of vegetables per day is ideal on Healthy Keto. If you have a gut issue that causes bloating, this may not be possible.
Consuming vegetables on keto will help supply crucial nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, and phytonutrients.
Vegetables also supply your gut with fiber, which feeds your gut microbes. A healthy gut microbiome is important for lessening insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is the primary cause of weight gain and the inability to lose weight.
In summary, you want to consume plenty of non-starchy vegetables on Healthy Keto. This is because vegetables are rich in fiber, which is the only carbohydrate that doesn’t spike your insulin. Fiber also feeds the microbes that help restore insulin sensitivity.

@@pennyiuliano7604 the fact I’m already heavy helps lol. Us big folks shed pounds easier in the beginning. But this is the first time I’ve followed dr bergs keto guide along with intermittent fasting. I’m doing the 20/4 IF plan and once a month I’ll do 48 hour fast. But I’ve never felt this good since my college days haha. Like the doc says, keep ur meats clean, I’ve switched to organic everything and the results speak for itself. I was at 240 lbs in july. This morning I’m at 207. Another thing I’ve noticed is that before I began this journey I would lose on avg 1-3 lbs each night. Now I’m dropping at least 5 lbs a night during sleep it’s crazy.

Don, Hi. Dr. Berg makes a point in this video to eat foods that do NOT spike insulin. Eliminate foods completely with high fructose corn syrup. It causes insulin resistance. Greatly reduce sugar consumption. Then you are on your way. Other "foods" to remove from your diet while ADDING whole foods, apple cider vinegar (ACV), extra virgin olive oil, fruits & veggies are: - Processed "foods". - Seed oils. - Confectioner's flour. - Excess salt. - Excess fat & fried foods. Make gradual changes. Try to narrow the time you eat all your meals to within 4 to 6 hours each day & drink only liquids after that. Don't deprive yourself of food. Be patient. Keep learning. Good Luck. Be Well.

Since I’m more loose HFLC but I still have a few lbs I’d like to shed and build muscle so I’m looking back at keto and carb cycling. The long term benefits of lowering carbs in general are legit. It’s just fun to eat them sometimes ha and cooking keto is easiest for both of us tho.

Hello... I have been studying diabetes for several years as doctors in England don't seem to have any idea about the relationship between diabetes and insolin resistance. I was told by a diabetic nurse that i should not fast! That's when I started following online doctors and have learnt so much. I have been fasting and doing exercise for the last 2 years and have lost 2 stone in weight and my blood sugars are slowly getting better. I want to thank all the u tube doctors for their help and I hope you will all keep giving us help. Here in the UK our doctors have all but disappeared and we can only get telephone appointments. The last time I managed to get an appoint on the phone with a doctor I had to wait for 2 weeks. I didn't get a single diabetic check up throughout the covid pandemic last year. Not even a blood test to check my A1C. I am so greatful for all the help and advice I have found online.

Same here in Ireland! We went from turning up at a doctors surgery at any time and day within surgery hours, sittting on a chair and waiting to be called "next". The door was always open. Never a receptionist, never an appointment. ...to CCTV, a locked front door and a receptionist/gatekeeper in the corner. Appointments are now made via email or phone (strictly between hours (otherwise your email bounces back)). All queries about illnesses (including the embarrassing ones) first have to be run past the receptionist before the doc agrees an appointment.. usually with a week or two of a wait. Or, an e-script, for an antibiotic is sent straight to your pharmacist without you being properly checked to see if you really need one. Charge for e-script is "only" €40 as opposed to €60 for a personal "audience", which usually lasts long enough for you to say Ahhhh.. with your strep throat. Where once the surgery was buzzing with people waiting, now when I swing past the big window, the room is always empty. WTF is going on?? 🤷‍♂️ 😱

Because “cholesterol” tends to refer to LDL and HDL which is just measuring the transport of fats in the bloodstream. It doesn’t suggest utilization (if you’re on keto you probably have more fats being transported as fuel). Triglycerides is more important to measure if your body is efficiently using what’s coming in. Carbs and esp sugar tend to raise this number and high triglycerides is more so associated with issues in conjunction with inflammation. When this happens, that’s what causes blockages in arteries. The body sends whatever it has to repair the damage and too much it causes heart disease.

Hello Dr. Berg, found your videos a couple of months ago and started doing keto almost immediately. Since then I have lost 8kg sow about 1 kg a week. I have reversed my blood pressure from 140/100 to 112/80 in this time period, and my waist has reduced but I managed to retain some muscle mass. I run 3km every other day and lift weights every day except weekends. I fast every day from about 6pm to next day 1pm and currently have an intake of about 1500kcal per day. I will increase kcals once I reach my weight goal. Next week I will do my routine blood tests and hope to see my triglycerides lower as well as my liver enzymes. Glucose also went down from 105 to about 85-88. Forgot to mention, I'm a 37 year old male. Thank sow much for your work and dedication to helping people understand nutrition better!

Considering the amount of eggs I now eat, my cholesterol is normal, blood pressure is normal Thanks for your videos,

Congrats on your progress. Just to be more accurate, you fasted and lowered carbs. Naturally your A1C reflected that. That's GREAT however, it is also deceptive. It definitely does not mean that you are no longer diabetic. It means you didn't eat much sugar- which you already knew. The disease state is something else. If you eat sugar or more regular meals, you may still well test higher than a non-diabetic. I HOPE in the long term you are able to turn things around. Maybe you have- it's way too early to tell. I would suggest that you work closely with an endocrinologist- if you are not already. I would also HIGHLY suggest you check on your own daily e.g., Fasting and 1-2 hours after eating- so at least twice a day. The kits are cheap online or Walmart. I test myself a few times a week at least. I am NOT diabetic- maybe that is why! Glucose is so important I still want to be on top of it, more than once a year at my doctors office. Not sure if you do OMAD. Personally, I do 2MAD- works best for me. I will eat once at noon and last meal is around 5pm. Keeping that feeding (insulin) window narrow is helpful. I also eat 1/2 org. lemon a day in plenty of water. It's good for a drink in the AM and also before dinner. I use the skin, seeds and all. It is very good for health. What are your top 10 or so GO-TO foods? I can share my thoughts. Nutrition has been my hobby for years so I know a lot. I know the science as well e.g., cellular physiology, metabolic health and how nutrients effect numerous disease pathways. Good luck!

For the holidays, I'll go off for a few days but I've become a pro at knowing how easiest to get back on. I find that an 8 hr or shorter eating window is easily doable once on a keto diet. I started a 16 week fitness challenge mid Feb this year. By mid June I had dropped 30 lbs, working out and lowering carb intake. Then it happened, I hit the dreaded plateau. Lots of people in my gym told me about Dr. Berg and most were doing Intermittent Fasting. I thought they were crazy but thought I'd give it a try. I watched many of Dr. Bergs videos and began my fast on a Sunday. The first day was hard because I was trained to eat more small meals thru the day. When I got up after the first day of fasting to weigh myself, I said if the scale doesnt move, Im done. Guess what, I dropped 3lbs in the first day. The first week I did keto and did the 16:8 fast. I dropped 7 lbs the first week. The second week another 4lbs came off. The third week I extended the fast to 19 hours and another 4 lbs came off. I have struggled with RA and inflammation for the last 12 years. I have not looked or felt this good in years. Thank you Dr. Berg for showing me a new way of life. I watch the videos faithfully and learn something each time. This is a life changing experience!! At 64 years old, I will finally hit my ideal goal weight!!

I am currently on my fast, tomorrow morning at 430 am I will be at 3 days! I just dove right in for 3 days to max out the benefits for my first time. Watching your informative videos on how sugars, carbs and insulin all affect our bodies has reinforced my own belief that too much sugar, starch and carbs are a nightmare to our bodies (having some health issues myself). During my first day, yes, I felt hungry, yes, I felt a headache, but I knew it was the body dumping all that sugar. I pushed through all that and then realized how amazing the human body is... I'm just at my 3rd day and have barely even felt hungry, tired, fatigued, moody, nothing negative!! I've never felt more awake and alert!! NO COFFEE NEEDED!! I seriously feel the best I've ever felt, period. Our digestive systems need to rest and heal!!! Imagining 3 meals a day now is mind blowing to how BAD we abuse our systems! I will be trying a one meal a day for a week and see how it goes. Nothing but greens and healthy proteins, being vegan, definitely no meats for me. I hope others will find this life changing way of fasting to become at least a consideration in their minds. Try just one day... you'll be blown away (after pushing through the discomfort) how amazing you will feel the next morning. LET OUR BODIES DUMP ALL THAT CRAP OUT THAT THEY FEED US!! LET'S STOP KILLING OURSELVES WITH FOOD!! I wish everyone to have a happy and healthy life! It all starts with our eating habits and lifestyles. No wonder the snack/health industries don't like you. They'll lose profits. I say good. Poisoning and killing people and making them sick for profits is SICKENING AND INHUMANE!! STOP THE MADNESS!!

I'm not starving myself and I do allow myself one cheat day per week. My energy level is as good as it was in my late twenty's, I sleep far better, and since I'm omad(which is my dinner mealtime), I just work through my lunch hour rather than just sit there. I did a version of KETO some years ago and lost 40+ pounds. Most of it is still off. For a period of time, my doctor took me off my blood pressure medicine, as I also ruthlessly cut down on sodium. Your videos are a better version of this. They add lots of knowledge and rationale to what might otherwise be just a program. One of the things I have learned from your videos, my experiences, and some of these comments, is that this is something YOU CAN DO. It isn't just talk. YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR HEALTH IF YOU DO THE RIGHT THINGS. Thanks.
@OnlyKaerius
@OnlyKaerius 2 жыл бұрын
Sodium actually has an inverse correlation with mortality. More is better (to a point at least, but that point is way over 8 grams per day somewhere, most people average 3-4 grams, 5-6 is a better sweet spot to aim for). The impact on blood pressure turned out to be only theoretical, or extremely brief. Turns out the body(kidneys) is(are) great at regulating blood sodium levels. There's a lot of old medical theory that's been turned on its head, low LDL is linked to higher mortality, rather than high LDL, for example. Oh and some good keto news for those with high blood pressure: stevia has a blood pressure lowering effect.

Dear Dr. Berg: I am in my 70's and have been in the gym since I was a kid. I love to exercise but I wasn't where I wanted to be at this point in my life. I started watching your videos and more importantly taking your advice. I lost about 15 pounds over two years and now am a trim 168 lbs. I feel I make better decisions about what I eat, and do, thanks to your teaching. Thank you.

You look good. Exercise only addresses 4 of the 8 sub cellular pathways to disease. Diet addresses all 8. RX's fix exactly zero.

I'm 70 years old..... started Keto intermittent fasting on June 1 2023. Only 2 meals and no eating between. I surprised myself. I'm doing it and I have great willpower. I've lost 5 lbs. Probably water weight. But I only have 5 more lbs to get off. Today I made the egg/cream cheese so called bread. What a treat!! It was good... I'm telling and sending your link to my family and friends about you . Thanks for all your videos. Tomorrow will be my 14th day..yahooooo

I've always been naturally 'slim', but from my late 30's there's been this persistent bit of belly fat, not so noticeable to other people but still there. Now with all of the great advice in Dr. Berg's videos about proper eating, I finally have a proper chance of rebuilding muscle tone in my 40's. Cheers from South Africa, doc!

Ive never been fat. 30Years ago I took part in macrobiotic classes as part of my holistic health course. Around that time I lost interest in white bread. Very Occasionally I would eat pizza or soda breads. By listening to my body I grew less fond of bread. Now at 72 and smaller than ever but I still need to work on a strip of belly fat which I is hardly noticeable but clearly has some affect on my blood pressure. I know it will disappear if I maintain a zero pasta, rice, yam and plantain diet. Good thing is I grow and eat okra, arugula and amaranth leaves. Also I drink sorrel (hibiscus) which is an excellent phytonutrient.

Visceral fat is deadly. Only takes 5lbs. to cause issues. Subcutaneous is less worrisome. You can often have up to 22lbs. of that without major issues.

I'm facing exactly same issue. I have been slim always. I eat many times a day since I am hungry every few hours. And in recent years after entering my 30's I have this belly fat which I am concerned about. How to really know what kind of fat it is?

If anyone has trouble keeping to a diet, I've found that buying and eating only all my own food that I bought personally helps TREMENDOUSLY! Separating the healthy food you bought from what your wife, husband, or kids, or brother or roommate etc buy and putting the fact that it's completely off limits in your mind has helped me so much, rather than sharing all food as a family which the head/heads of household bought. Separating it clearly in the fridge and cabinets. I'd always be eating food which I don't know exactly what's in it or eating unhealthy food because it was offered by a family member and wishing to not be polite. Discipline with food is so much easier when you buy ALL of your own food, especially that which is the same sort of food your other family members bought, but a healthier version than what your family may be eating.

Yes I have definitely benefited from Dr Bergs content as the knowledge is presented in short concise succinct information as I have a short span concentration period and will not watch videos by other doctors who need 1 hour and thirty minute videos to make a simple point, avoid carbohydrates!!! Excellent content, I am told what I need to know, no superfluous waffle. Thank you, please continue with your educational work

Love the clear and concise presentations by Dr. Berg. Age 72 here, always had problems losing weight. In 6 months I’m down 20 lbs for the first time since 20 years ago, by cutting out most sugar, doing intermittent fasting about 14 hours, and paying attention to food quantity. I’m doing sort of keto-lite and not too obsessively, but I feel lighter and healthier- and my HDL/ LDL and A1C are much improved. I’m eating two lighter meals most days and feeling better and less depressed.
