I generally go with Emelin, Nova, Krista, and Quin. Quin technically breaks my rule of never having the three main tasks done by a single person. But I haven't thought of anyone to replace him or replace someone else. Emelin is the best cook in the game, and the happiness boost her meals provide is so important to avoiding meltdowns in the early game especially. Can also basically go most of the first year with nothing but the campfire to cook on, because ALL her meals are "exquisite". Since she's also a decent farmer, and so is Krista, I generally set one to plant, and one to harvest, and it works out pretty well.

I started with Ken, Krista, Rita, and Quin. Quin and Krista are married, so they can share a bedroom. Found Yokko and Edmund on expeditions. Ken is the BOMB for scavenging/Salvaging and good at combat/physical. Krista sits at the research table and blows through research. Rita is my farmer/cook, and Quin is my crafter/constructor. When Yokko came on board, I moved Rita off of cooking, and strictly farming. When Edmund popped up, he became the handler, deliverer, cutter, miner (basically my gopher).

I really liked Emelin for that perk. Rarely had meltdowns with her in the crew, and if you can get sleep training with her on the crew it’s like endless productivity

Starting lineup and rush creating to get the highest happiness possible every day before the first winter: Emelin - Every thing she cooks is an exquisite meal bonus. No indifferent, good farming skill. Set her to an opposite schedule to your normal people so that she starts work as they go to sleep, that way she will eat first, then cook all the meals up to the amount you set, then use the rest of the night to do farming or other tasks without constantly making a meal every time someone eats. Ken - Good combat score, gains happiness from death, gets double scrap on salvage. Use him for salvage and hunting. Scrap sucks for building, but later having double scrap for metal alloy is amazing. Daniel - Has research insight ability which, when researching, has a chance to have an insight that will boost the current research by a huge chunk towards finished. I've gotten good RNG with him before and finished all research before year 2 ends. He can't do combat, but its not a big issue as turrets are pretty quick to get up fast. Better than Krista, since Krista cannot craft, and having more crafters works better. Rakha - Faster construction of buildings and devices. You'll get your buildings up a lot quicker, as well as devices, multiple in a day. Now, everyone has happiness issues it seems. This is the way to beat it quick. Set Emelin to cook, and only her. This will give you an exquisite meal bonus for every meal. Observe graincob, buttermelon, and get some meat. This will allow you to make the first three basic meals, plus the tasty buttermelon pie meal. Having a variety will give your people the food variety happiness bonus, and anything more than the base food (tasty, chef, etc) gives an extra bonus on top of it. Build a building that has enough space for a room for each person that is 4 x 3. This will give you the best private room/big room bonus you can get. Next, go harvest skinbark, and with wood, make skinbark beds in each room. This will give you the comfortable bed bonus. Build a table with chairs. This will give them the ate at table bonus. If you prioritize graincob, and buttermelon for observation/harvest, then immediately make a farm plot of each, you can get one, maybe even two harvest in before winter. Rush construction research first, then prioritize chopping a ton of trees down for the first small building. You can expand for kitchen/living/workshop after, but getting those rooms built is a must, not only for the bonus, but for insulation and warmth when winter hits. You can get all of it done, and completed usually before the end of summer in most seeds, even sooner if you get lucky, or micromanage them into each task. Schedule your people with an "Anything" block after they wake up, an "Anything" block in the middle of the day, and an "Anything" block with two "Relax" blocks before sleep and you'll have minimal meltdown issues, and every day they wake up they'll always have a huge positive happiness boost. Branch out and makes sure there are multiple entertainments, and shoot for their favorite food, and you'll mitigate almost every issue for the first year or two, which is generally the hardest to get through until you have your industry and devices up and going, and by then you'll have flooring to get rid of the lived in cave issue, entertainment and music, chairs, wamth, etc, so you'll get creature comforts bonus, and unless you just over work them, they'll usually sort themselves out.

Wow, already a year old. Great guide! Explains not only what they are good or interested in but the special traits which are almost more important sometimes. I go big family and zero on the rules which adjusts who I take. Vivian is a must for tailoring enough clothes before winter. Melody is great on healing and research. Rita to cook and farm but most important can get new research when you send her on expeditions. Ken for double salvage and hunting, need the scrap for alloy. I am doing quite well since last time I tried this 2 died from the cold but I have all the warm gear before winter.

Some of my best plays have been with Ken, Nova, Krysta, and Quinn. Have used Maki in place of Nova but she needs more and more rest. Her identify on expedition helps a lot. Grayson is good. Nova took a while to figure out her best use. But she is good at helping others. Well rounded is a few areas. Last play I had Krysta harvest and Nova came right behind her planting. Once her farming gets high enough I will have her do both. Mainly used her to cook though.

Nova is quite a good character. I often use her as the crafter (as well as the physical stuf and combat, of course). Krista is also one of my favorites, as her skills seem to raise faster than others no matter what secondary job she does (of course, research is the top, but I have her do backup farming too). I like this lineup and use it frequently.

Replace Krista with Daniel. Same research insight bonus. Can't do combat, but turrets usually take care of everything, and I'd rather have someone that can help with crafting, which Kirsta can't do.

Simon. That walk speed coupled with intellect, makes him pro observer for things a little further away. Once that is done, he can craft, research and is also excellent at combat, doubled with his no-bleed ability. Rita or Maki, for their ability to observe stuff on expeditions, that you cant find on the map. Usually go for Rita, since she can cook and farm as well. Vivien, for obvious reasons. She can level up crafting so bloody fast, that she can easily craft other items thats not tailoring. And she can cook, after a bit of training. Ken, for his ability to salvage. Also decent in combat (bloodlust buff), and can become decent at construction.

Vivian came to my team as a random event and I couldn’t be happier with her. My initial four were Rakha, Rita, Nova and Maki. Nova is of course fantastic, I like having Rita for the extra observation discoveries she has made on expeditions (could not find chew roots, giants grass, and at least one other on my map), but I underestimated Maki’s sleeping problems and Rakha’s gloominess just seems to piss everyone right off. I also got Naras as an added bonus, and other than healing and sticking him on the research table, he’s also a bit of a drag. His asthma causes him to walk and work slower, he will not defend himself in any circumstance, and if I stick him on crafting I’ve occasionally found him wandering off to pick up a remote piece of silicon or something just as an animal attack is about to kick off.

my Go-To for EVERY game is Emelin, cus her exquisite food buff is HUGE in the early game before you have all your amenities built up and everyone is miserable the 2nd favorite is Ken, cus the double scrap metal is also super useful and that's a quicker path to the mid game im not too worried about low combat skill, since having a good trap setup is usually enough to make up for that another good pick for me is Hugo, who's 100% chance to tame is good if you are having food or leather problems, since you can use him to tame and animal and then immediately butcher it, instead of chasing the animal across the map to hunt it, then having to haul back the meat and hides in 2 separate trips usually my go-to researcher is Krista cus her insights are super useful early on, but once you start running out of things to research later on, she becomes more useless, cus she has barely any other skills

my go to is Ember- good in fighting ( buffing whole your team in combat aswell) and doing research and analyze tasks for you, plus some basic healing Emelin- in early game you can split her as cook-farmer very well until you get better farmer like Laara, then she can dish out those ecquisite meals all day long Ken- Again good fighter and can doo all your scavenging mining stuff in your colony as well as crafting with his interest, plus again decent healer. And i always find myself lacking iron in late game, so he bringing more scrap from expeditions is probably main reasson i take him. last would be Rakha but i try to avoid him because he just seems to OP so i select Samatha as my builder + another good researcher and on tom again decent fighter. And i like her being vegatarian, i like some extra challenge. So pretty much if a good farmer joins you as strangler early on, you are good to go for rest of the game

I always choose Ken, Quin, Rita, and Emelin. As ken gets more scrape, quin builds and explores with minor research, Rita for farming, researching, and exploring, Emelin for cooking, research. I like have more than one combat oriented survivor

Having someone who increases everyone's happiness twice a day is a must for me. While, she does not have 2x plant and harvest like Laara; Emelin cooks in the morning, then can plant/harvest and since she is mostly around the base can do some handling as well. I actually give Vivian a very large bedroom. In it she has shelves for raw tailoring material, a large wardrobe, her bed, and three crafting tables workbench, soldiering, and tailoring. I also put the research bench in Quin's bedroom. Perhaps it is just me but, when my survivors spend all day working in close proximity they tend to criticize, prank and irritate each other. Having two of them working in their own bedrooms, Nova out of camp getting materials and Emelin in the kitchen or the fields keeps them both separate and happier. Another big asset for Quin is shorter exploration missions. Nova is really a must have for me also, you mentioned that she will not melt down, but, newcomers to the game, (aren't we all still newcomers) may not know how big this is... You can send her off mining, cutting, or scavenging all day, in the rain, and she will not have an issue with it, really big plus. (edited) after reading some of the other comments especially the one about having researcher/construction being the same person - definitely agree. Quin for me is just research/exploration, oh I may have him repair something if Nova is off somewhere but, Nova is my construction survivor. I know she starts low, but, there is so much initial construction that unless your construction person is indifferent, they will be fine.

Your suggestion on the items in their bedrooms is such a great idea and honestly didn't even think of this! Yea, the Meltdown stuff is really frustrating when you first start playing. I do think the beauty of this game is how every game is going to play out differently too. I didn't think much of Edmund at first but the story writing works out pretty well.

Good guide. I regret not taking Vivian. Clothes are so damn important. I am happy with the group I selected and now that I’ve played some there’s a point where Novas obtuseness can be dealt with but because of that negative trait I’ve never taken her. I may next time. Anyway my selection was Conner, Katina, Quinn and Emelin. Pretty solid 4 but yeah Connor needs med attention quite a bit. I’m in year 10.

I’ve had too much of one thing and not enough of another so that balance is what I’m going for. I’ll probably build the rescue equipment soon. I’m finding the more time you stay the more RNG is given an opportunity to screw you.

My four are Emelin, Laara, Quin, Talas at last at the moment I also like Rita and Simon. Tried a run-through with Greyson and Vanessa (Husband and wife) they get a nice little boost when they sleep side by side or work together. Not a fan of survivors who are completely incapable of tasks so I have not chosen Nova. I tried Viven but she died so quickly that she could have been a casualty of my learning curve though. It will be a lot of hours and fun with this game for me ( kind of addicted) as I have almost 100 hours into this game since its release in October.

Well my characters of choise for Hardmode with the rule "lost cause" (every stats is 0) is Quin for research, Rakha for building & crafting, Simon for Crafting & Combat (+100HP and +5 on bleedings so even if he is wounded up to 5 Bleeds per h are negated +25% movment) and at last ether Laara for farming or Rakhas Cusin. cuase relatives does bring a higher succsessrate in cheering up relatives during meltdowns. also a good combo is Simon, Quin, Jack & Emelin did play Hard mode Lost cuase with those and reached easly year 9. also it seems that the brake throus you start with depending on the combination of your selection. My favorit is turning insects into fuel (this is like a cheat)

NGL, I like the Nova-Krista pair. Nova is a solid all-rounder with a strong foot into combat and healing. Krista makes up for it being a solid researcher-farmer. They go well with either Quin or Rakha for construction, and then just about anybody. You could even go nova-connor and turn Nova into a solid homebody healer-crafter.

I’m in my first playthrough right now, currently in winter year 1. I picked Jack, Quin, Katina, and Laara. Jack seemed like a good pick because he was all around just good and had a high combat score, I was concerned a bit by him being 55 and I guess that was the early indication of his liver problem. So far that has not been an issue, and on the topic of illness he is now immune to pneumonia 😅. Quin I picked as a builder and researcher, and I’m very happy with him. Laara I picked for her farming ability, and Katina I picked for her healing ability. So far my team seems to be working out pretty well. But I’m definitely gonna try vivien, and I’ll probably have to completely restructure the team. Definitely keeping Quin though.

I agree with you about Vivien; her fast sewing skill is invaluable. Larra is also excellent for the reasons you gave. I often choose Ken as my fighter because he loves killing and gets extra scrap metal, so is also the best scavenger. Talas is underrated as a researcher because he also has fast movement and manipulation, which makes him ideal for observing vital plants which are a long way from the base at the start. Just make sure he eats before he heads off. Both he and Ken are reasonable healers too. I find Quin to be surprisingly miserable, despite his apparent 'cheerfulness'. Finally, Rita deserves a mention. She's cheerful, loves cooking and farming and discovers new plants if she explores. Weirdly, she always squabbles with everyone else though, for some reason, which makes me think she's one of those annoying 'smiley' people. 😀

The problem with not choosing Quin is construction, but I found that it's quite easy to get Ken and Talas up to the required threshold to build the base. My main issue with the game is circuits and turrets; I'm finding it hard to work out how to arrange them effectively. Also, the radio apparatus consumes a massive amount of power and leads to animal attacks, so I built it and then switched it off, so it's pretty useless IMHO.

Rita, Ken, Rahka and Vivian MVP group all day. Laaeas speed is nice but I just find Rita has more to offer bonus sightings, happiness buff, she also calms anyone who has a meltdown, she levels up pretty quickly. Rahka, he's pissy attimes but just get him to craft or play an instrument he's good to go. Vivian, she eats more than Talas but is a must have. Play a game w/ her then another w/o yeah .. Then there's Ken, I didn't use him for the longest he was subbed w/ Nova or Ember. Extra scrap is very nice now he's part of the lineup, easiest one to manage, he gets sad go kill some shit or punch a pole or pla handpan, Special K likes the handpan. Most times, I seem to get Melody as a walkin which is awesome, shes the best healer imo. That motivation buff is basically giving everyone laaras walk/task speed, as well as increased crafting. Put your research desk in he center around oher workstations and watch her motivate. Great game, wish there was more tech to research or the time was spread out more, believe it would take longer than 5days t research Orbital communication but, thats just me. I'd question this lineup, though I'm trying it now. The issue I have is that you've got Quin on triple duty with no real backup. He's the constructor, the researcher and the explorer. He's also got the highest crafting skill, though Vivien will do the crafting along with the cooking. Too much micromanagement of the survivors, and Quin's got no speed buffs (as Laara for farming and Vivien for cooking and crafting). There's low INT scores for observation in the beginning, as Quin will be busy building. Too much reliance on one survivor for critical jobs.

Trust me, Vivien is OP. Her crafting levels like crazy. Just spam bandages after her daily cooking and she is level 3 in no time. Then once you have cloth, get her on clothing. She is then the main crafter. I am currently using these guys on my hard playthrough on the channel, and it works very well. Just make sure you get Laara levelling construction from the get go. I have her at level 6 construction by year 2 pretty much. Give it a go 💪✌️

REVIEWED: ISSUE OF Stranded:Alien Dawn: Not really sure this game is broken. While the overall design looks beautiful and allows an in-depth management of the various aspects, herein lies the massive problem this game has issue in character micromanagement. The issue that may affect who buys this game is wrapped in a lot of layers of taking care of the major needs of the characters behavior and the reaction on how you do it has a lot of managing aspects that are all in micromanagement of these affects. The game developer is striving for the feeling of a survival aspect of the game but ends up a little boring at times and overly used in the management of everything. Unsure if I like the game or not. One thing for sure: even after learning the working of this game I find no matter how many times I restart a game with more knowledge and do everything better I still end up with the same results. This is why I hate games that have huge micromanagement built into characters. They are unpredictable, that is with all the built in reactions and just not that fun. Even though I like the game idea and it is somewhat fun, I cannot with good consensus recommend this game with such issues, at least in my view.

I do believe a few aspects are broken. I really love the game though. With more granular control on what order we can do things, and the ability to make them do a job without stopping (automatically) will make the game even better IMO

I don't like using Quin for construction AND research. They're both pretty constant jobs, and he's only one man. Certain jobs can be doubled up in one person...but others can't. Whoever does research should basically ALWAYS be doing research, and only a few odd jobs when time permits or emergencies demand. Same with crafting, or construction. Cooking, farming, and the Physical activities of foraging for materials and food, can be combined with less important tasks, but not much. Healing, hunting, and moving stuff around, are generally all pretty low priority tasks. Healing is important, when it comes up, but unless you're really tanking on your map, it should rarely be necessary. In any case, your builder, researcher, and crafter...should NEVER be the same person, if you can help it.

TheOnlyL0nzy had a great strat where everyone was the crafter and things got done. If you don't have a dedicated crafter having everyone set to 1 on the priority means - stop what you're doing we're building a house! Of course, later game it's nice to have people specialise a bit but it seems to me skills level reasonably well so unless prevented from doing so anyone can get to be expert in anything.

The treats of the characters are bull sh@t and you know it if you look at this character you suggest here skill for crafting is at 1 but reading of how well she does this make no sense you may be right but the game issue and setting and skill are not just out right confusing but not well done and made this way to deceive the player and keep them in the dark.
