Admittedly biased, but Cam Smith's par save at the Road Hole on Sunday. Backed his skill with the putter and didn't try for too much with the 3rd shot.

Cam Young’s putt on 18 for eagle. I know it wasn’t a winner, but if Smith dropped a shot at all those last 3 holes then that putt would have gone down in history. Other than that, Smith on 17 was absolutely nails. He WON that championship, Rory did not lose it.

It was Lanny Wadkins (not Lehman) who outrageously picked an over the hill Curtis Strange instead of the Open Champion John Daly for the 1995 Ryder Cup. Happily, Strange collapsed against Faldo, enabling Europe to win.

Perhaps, but I don't think that JD could have handled the pressure of 3 days of Ryder Cup. If things had gone wrong for him, he would have melted down. That's OK for medal play, but in a team event it would have been a disastrous distraction. Spots on a Ryder Cup team were too valuable to risk JD just walking off in the middle of an event.
@Eric-tj3tg
@Eric-tj3tg 2 жыл бұрын
@@kyle381000 That's fair. I like the guy, and he's clearly been a great player, but there's a whole person there. Lehman wouldn't take that chance, and it's a defensible position as a captain, in my opinion. Would've been interesting though. In today's climate, there's NO CHANCE you don't take him. He WAS popular, a rebel, bombed it, had a great short game, and was passionate. Fans today would dictate to bright tv executives that the aforementioned characteristics make him a necessary participant.

I used to carry scoreboards and sometimes caddy in the practice rounds for the Pebble Beach PGA event formerly known as the Crosby Invitational. I can confirm that Curtis Strange was an incredible horses ass. I carried the scoreboard for his group in the late 1980's and everytime he had a bad shot or missed a putt he would find someone to berate and insult or blame. It was similar to how John McEnroe used to act in tennis. Outof the 100's of pro golfers I interacted with, Curtis Strange was by far the worst asshole.

IMO, it will never happen as the equipment manufacturers have spent too much money to make the clubs easier to hit and make the ball go further. When big money is involved, it talks loudly and no manufacturer would want to see their previous offerings obsoleted. That is, unless a bifurcation occurs, where the pros equipment is scaled back and the general public is not affected. But then, who would want to play "what the pros play" anymore?

I was carrying a scoreboard (as a 16yr old) in Curtis' Strange group at Colonial in Fort Worth in 1984 and would typically ask golfers for a golf ball or glove at the end of the round walking off 18th green. Every guy gave me a glove including Bill Casper, Lee Trevino, Ben Crenshaw, Tom Weiskopf and Gene Littler but Strange just scowled at me and said "You think these are free? Go buy your own" and when I asked for a ball he tossed one over the green and into the water and said "Go get that one". So I looked and him and said "Fuck you Strange" and walked off.

He's SOOO right about young people. If they'd be on golf during their video game time, they/we'd ALL be better off. I still played my violent sports, but golf was great too...Especially very young by the highway on the 2nd Tee where I could purposely slice it into the street..HILARIOUS at the time. Cam was 40:1 in Vegas... what a great bet eh? Should a golf course be dependent on weather to make it really a challenge? When guys are banging out 64’s all week somethings not right. I heard it was an Open record for scores in the 60’s. What if anything can they do to toughen it up... more traps in play at certain yardages or lengthen it somehow. Note- would love to see a tournament where they have to play with the old equipment & balls as a lark.

JD is a friend of mine. We were in Orlando at a pro-am charity event the weekend of Arnold's Bay Hill tournament. John missed the Bay Hill pro-am Tee time and got disqualified from the tournament. So he called Mr. Palmer and said I am sorry about missing the pro-am. Can you let the group I was suppose to play with (who were the major sponsor) know I want to play with them. So on Sunday a 4-some of the main sponsor came to the course on we were at to play with John. I rode the cart with John and he had 7 birdies on the front 9. They were blown away by not only his driving but how good his short game is. They a great memorable time. It's tragic as a 2 time major winner he has never been on a Ryder Cup team.

WHY??? Does John have 2 cups??? Because ONE is straight liquor & the other is for a lil sip of chaser...LOVE him, drink the same way for multiple reasons (only one is that mixed shit will trick u & I wanna know how much I'm downing cuz I know the steps & my limits of which there are a few limits I'm willing to deal with in public lol). Legend..Mainly cuz he's superhuman on the course but even more cuz he does it while being that NORMAL cool guy we all know or are...So structured, never be another ONE.
