I've had mine for 2 years, selling for $200 used. I'm switching to a more podcast style microphone. I'd be happy to sell it to someone here. Great mic.

Now it's a real no-brainer deal... The mic is $399 right now, literally makes no sense to buy any other mic in the price range.

@@RadiumRecordsHollywoodI have the VMS mic a long time. Sold a Smb7, blueberry and peluso 47. Listening here I don’t notice huge differences. They are small changes overall to me. I guess I’m looking for some honest advice. Stick with ML-1 or would yourself prefer to have 2 mics? I sing mainly, rock, songwriter and some stuff like yourself. I admit there’s some GAS going on. If you had one choice would you have the VMS system or your Tlm 103? Or the 414 Gold? Is the 103 that bright? Or is a flatter mic better 193?

Hey! I used to have this mic, loved it! I'm more portable now, and don't feel like tracking the the VMS ONE around with me. Do you use the Slate Preamp VMS ONE or just a clean Audio Interface preamp? I used it previously with the the Slate Preamp, but want a lighter footprint, and curious if you still like the results without it. Thanks!

Are you recording ML-1 through your UAD chain in Console then adding the models in Pro Tools? Do you find it still accomplishes what you are looking for when doing so?
@RadiumRecordsHollywood2 ай бұрын
Yea! I go directly into the apollo rack, sometimes add a neve or other preamp emulation in uad console, maybe a little compression, then add the mic emulation as first insert. Sounds amazing, I'll tweak depending on what I'm going for.

This mic is all hype. I have owned mine since they were bundle with the preamp as a whole system. The mic is ok but I like my Townsend lab mic way better. That being said I like my U47 and U67 clones way better. I don't even use my slate mic anymore. It sounds a bit pinched to me and has a strident sounding high end that I don't like. At $499 it's a better deal than when I bought mine.I also own all of the expansions including the ml2 mics. I do not own the U87 pack. I demoed it and did not like them at all. I bought into the hype years ago when they first came out. That's when Steve was saying how great the mic pre was and that you needed that mic pre to make the models sound right. Then several years latter he says in clean pre would work. it's snake pill at it's best. However if your on a budget and $499 is all you want to spend plus pay for the yearly subscription that I think is $149 a year then go for it. You can get good results if the talent is there. For that matter you can get good results using the tried and true sm57 and 58. I personally think the L22 mic modeling system is much better.

So I guess your one those people that can’t handle an opposing opinion. I think the mic is over hyped and it has been for years. Hence the reason why it sells for $499 now vs the $799 and the $999 price tag it use to have. I for one don’t think you need high end mics to record and make great records. My first ep I ever did was on a 4 track machine back in the day using only shure dynamic mics. It sounded good enough that the local studio awarded my then band a free day in the studio. All I am stating here is the mic isn’t as good as it’s been out to be and there are way better options. My beesneez BU47 and 67 sound way better and way more dimensional than the slate mic ever will. I’ve built 251 clones for a little more than the slate mic. My slate mic sits in its mic cabinet and never comes out. That is not say that it can’t be used to make great recordings. I just moved on to better mics. There will be people that watch your channel that will appreciate a different opinion this way they can look into it more for themselves. I bought mine because of all the hype around it when it first came out. I got it and yes some of the models are not bad but just not but the mic is very present far from flat. I actually went through a few of the ml1 mics and they all sounded different. It’s my least favorite of all my mics. I’m glad it’s working out for you. Actually your video and your comment is compelling me to revisit the mic and put it up against my Beesneez mics. I’ll let you know how it goes. Maybe I will post something for you to hear. I will say from my last use of the ml1 my real tube mics sound much warmer and more detailed.
