I bought a new Helix in 1998. I still own/ride it, but it needs A LOT of work. I tell people often that it is the greatest thing I've ever owned (and I have/had some really cool STUFF!) Your vid makes me feel validated. When I bought it, the Helix was more an object of derision than nostalgic cool or whatnot. Cafe racers were the rage and Harley dudes looked down on it. It is dorky. But it is soooooo fun! So, too bad if they dont get it.

Do yourself a favor and replace the Guage lights with led, it's not very hard and if you have any questions please ask as I did it. I have pictures of how it looks as well. Much brighter in the day and looks really cool at night with the low heat of the led not damaging the screen over time.

@rcman10232 жыл бұрын
@@katiemac31 it's pretty easy to be honest with you, take off both mirrors (two bolts each) then take off the windshield (believe it's like 4 screws) the dash cover has 2 screws that hold it in I believe, one by the parking break and one on the other side, it will just slide off afterwards. The Guage lights are the top (towards the windshield) and on the bottom (both sides on the top of where the lights go in have 2 places where lights go in, one is for turn signals and the bottom one is for the guage.) their is a video on this if you look it up, it's actually fairly easy and at most will take you about 30 minutes to a hour (took me longer as wanted to clean areas I normally couldn't reach as easy)

I just bought one today. Picking it up on Saturday. Near mint for $1300 with new tires and brakes and 100% stock. Cant wait to hit the road with this little critter. It's funny, you mentioned a Goldwing. I almost bought one yesterday but I could not deal with the feet arrangement and that huge ass boxer engine in the way so I passed. With this thing, I can put my feet wherever I want and that couch of a seat. Damn comfy bike. Normally I would want a back rest but I am thinking that may not be needed with this one. Thanks for the preview of what is in store for me and now off to see your Tennessee ride 🙂

The problem with minimalism is everything cost more tomorrow. An example is my dad bought sparkplugs for his motorcycle for $1.99 for 4 about 30 years ago. now theyre $7.99 each. If you can get a house and storage it makes sence to keep everything you will buy later. Were running 100% inflation a year now. its harder to buy things when youre older. And will cost you massively. objects are worth more than the money will be even in a year. .

I'm definitely a minimalist. Been that way for a while, but a flood in my old apartment definitely reinforced that fact. Before the apartment flood I could put everything I owned into my HHR and it would take 2 trips to move, with the biggest item being my bed. Now It takes 1 trip, the biggest item still being my bed but the few things I have left over fit snugly on top. I've wanted a Helix for decades, since I first saw one somewhere back in the early 90s. I honestly can't remember when i first saw it or heard about but I've wanted one ever since. They are unfortunately, more expensive than car in my neck of the woods. My HHR I bought for 2700$, the cheapest Helix I can find is 3k and no guarantees despite the ad that it's going to run for shit.

I sold my helix to size up since our apartment garage only has room for one bike, but I honestly can't remember why. It did almost everything any 500-1000cc bike I've ridden since can do with less gas AND a trunk

I just bought my second Helix and was watching YTube and found your video. I used my original Helix daily for everything. I put thousands of miles on it and the wife loved cruising the back roads of PA. I had it for years. However, I wanted a bit bigger and faster to be able to run long distance on the interstates. I sold the Helix and bought a ST1300. Loved it at first but, It was extremely heavy moving around the garage, very heavy trying to move it in and out of parking spaces with the wife on it. She didn't like the shifting or the rear seat. My riding got less and less. I went from riding daily to every once in a while. I wanted my scooter back. 5 years later. Sold the ST1300 and bought a Suzuki AN650 Burgman. I couldn't find anything negative written about it. I thought it would would be the best of the ST and the Helix. It wasn't. The suspension sucked. The seat was even worse. The wife quit riding with me. I spent over 2K with custom designed shocks and sv650 front forks modified to fit the burgman. Way better but not good. I wanted to love it. After 4 years, I just sold it. I just bought my second helix and am loving life again. The wife is back on back and smiling the entire time. If you stay off the interstate, I'll go and exit or 2 but not far, it is all you will ever need. It will never die. I've owned over 50 motorcycles and it is the only one I want back. It just makes Smiles. Great Video, Thanks

My name is LT and I am a Heliholic. I am here to confess that I have had four Helix 250's, and I am ashamed to admit that I sold my last year model 2007 with 2,200 miles. The Helix is a unicorn model on relatively flat terrain. But compromised on hilly and/or mountainous areas. I live near the Blue Ridge mountains and owned a Helix (actually my fourth) and a Burgman 400 (my second) at the time... and sold the Helix. The Burgman was better in every way except that it is heavier and doesn't get as good a gas mileage. HOWEVER, there is a warning/problem if you plan to switch back and forth riding a motorcycle one day and your scooter the next. The left lever is a clutch on your motorcycle, and a brake on a scooter (with very few exceptions). So, in an emergency, a motorcyclist will instinctively grab a handful of left lever as if it were a clutch and potentially experience the downside of that lever being a brake on a scooter. It happened to me when a deer jumped in the road as I rounded a blind turn. So, I sold my Burgman as well, and may get one with ABS next. The Helix is perfectly adapted for the motorcyclist as it has a right foot pedal for the rear brake and no left lever. The Helix is a wonderful wonderful sub 70mph maxi-scooter! I wish Honda would redesign it with an aluminum frame and other parts and upgrade to a 350cc thumper. The 350cc displacement was a classic near perfect compromise displacement for a relatively light and capable motorcycle for a normal weight individual. Think XR350, DR350, and Honda 350's of the 60's.
