After I got my Bergman 400 Honda, I quickly sold my K-11Lt & R-80RT BMW’s before their value dropped even more. This maxi-scooter is great for the ranges I ride from Mt.Shasta to Yosemite to Mt.Baldy to SantaCruz no freeway too fast drive. Moderate on the twisties, but reveals GXXR like suspensionDoesn’t wheelie but the trunk replaces need for saddlebags. Looks like George Jetson’s bike that does 110 & gets over 50 per gallon.

I remember seeing one of these brand new back in the mid 80’s when they first came out. The design was crazy futuristic for the time. I never forgot the digital gauges.., it looked so awesome then, and still does on the 05 model. Back in the 80’s Honda scooters were everywhere. Dude, Yammie. When I first started watching your videos. I wondered if you would ever do a review on the Helix. But I assumed it was just too lame for you to give it any time. I own a 1993 Honda Helix. It was the catalyst for me owning 4 Busas. It was just too much fun and I needed more. The Busas are so much fun in their own way. But when I swing a leg through my Honda Helix and cruise through the city, it's definitely a lot more fun than a Busa in slow speed neighbor hood and city traffic. It's so light on its feet and manageable. Yet so comfortable to ride. So long like a jet ski and I'm able to put my feet forward. Leaning back with my hands high on the handle bars, I feel tough like I'm on a Harley. Big bright head light, Liquid cooled, great wind protection, and awesome storage. Always starts up and keeps running. Honda Helix, best scooter in the world 🗺!

My mom had one when I was a teen, my dad commuted to work hundreds of times on it and he loved the ride too. He got rear ended in traffic once and although he was OK the scoot got bashed up. After some months to find the replacement parts and a new paint job it was back like nothing happened to it. They are tough and so easy to ride, I saw it as the touring bike of scooters and to prove that the three of us would cruise down to Branson in the summer as mom was keeping up with a Yamaha Venture the whole way. Yammie, you featured this scoot so well good sir that the only thing left out is how quick it is off the light that dad could get the jump on most vehicles and merge like it was nothing. TY for the video, it brought back some fond memories.

I had one of these back in the early 2000's. I loved it so much that I sold my car and rode my Helix exclusively for about 3 years. There are two major issues that I had with it though. 1st, due to the small tire size, it went through them very quickly and were expensive to replace. Second, I had issues with the pulley system used in the transmission that required service twice. Both times with big price tags.

Dude, believe it or not, Scooters are a blast. Those who say no, it's all about speed or nah its all about looking tough and slow on a Harley. They need to try before trash talk. Not to mention you can grab 2 or 3 bags of groceries, no need to drive a suburban for that. Doing over 100mpg compared to 10 on your suburban

These things handle so well and are so generally capable that I've seen people take them to Tail of The Dragon and on long distance tours and throw down some remarkable lean angles. You'd think with how fat it is in the back it's more suited for straight lines. On the other end of the spectrum people compare them to moving couches all the time XD.

My wife and I had a Helix for years and it was so practical for getting around town. We would ride 2-up pretty often too, although the suspension was not as happy with two adult Americans on board! I saw Helixes around Japan when I was there in the mid-90s and they had crazy huge gauntlets built in to the handgrips, I guess so that you wouldn't lose your gloves, just stick your hands into the gauntlets and go. And the trunk really adds a lot of utility. A lot.

We had an '86 Helix until recently and it was a lot of fun. That being said, you don't want to do a lot of long distance touring on it, especially two up and with the trunk loaded down. I also have an '86 Goldwing and we actually took both bikes on a trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. As predicted, the GW felt relaxed on the long inclines, where the Helix felt like a motor home trying to climb the hills. The Helix also doesn't handle deep potholes with those small wheels and panic stops at higher speeds feel like you're taking your life in your hands. Great city scooter, but out of it's element in the mountains.

With touring bikes getting more and more expensive I’m seriously considering getting a Yamaha xmax 300. Would still ride the motorcycle for shorter spirited rides. But when you think about it a maxi scooter like the xmax is basically an affordable touring bike. Tons of storage, wind protection, good tech, comfortable. Highway capable

So far I have ridden everything possible, e.g. 1000 Superbike, Harley Super Low Sportster and Triumph Scrambler. Then this year I was in Paris and Rome. There I saw these thousands of maxi scooters, they were always the fastest, always totally relaxed and cool. I was totally impressed! Four weeks ago I bought a Honda Forza 350 scooter. The absolute revelation! These scooters are the coolest shit in the world!

Awesome, they are very popular, I find them hideous 😅. You have to try the Piaggio BV 400. Amazing scoot. All riders should try a scoot. Thanks for making us worthy. 👍

I would love to see your take on the 80's/90's Honda Pacific Coast (PC800) - the "not a scooter" but ultimately known as a "Super Scooter" due to its functionality. A real cross between scooter/motorcycle/car, with a watertight trunk darn close to the size of a first gen Miata and "gentlemanly" manners for riding. Definitely not a sport bike, built truly for commuting over distance.

Ive been here watching your content for a long time and ive been telling you and a few other motorcycle channels about scooters and how fun they are to ride. But yall apparently wasnt reading..... My introduction to scooters was when i was stationed in germany and traveled to countries south of rhe euro alps. You get into countries like italy, spain, portugal, southern france and seeing scooters everywhere got me intrigued to try it out. I rented a 250cc or 350cc honda silverwing scooter and rode it out to lake Garza, italy and had such a blast! Ever since, anything south of the alps led me to look for a scooter rental place. Riding these maxi scooters feels like this sorta safe fun. I got sent back to the states and ended up getting a 2009 Suzuki burgman 650 executive and booooy is that one hell of a scoot. Cruiser guys often had slick comments but would get quiet once we get out on the ooen road and crack the throttle. Scooters are fun as hell and extremely practical. So practical......that if people bought their 2-wheeled vehicles based off of what they NEED, i think most people would end up on a scooter.

Enjoyed watching that - reminded me of my old one I had a few years ago. When I sold it the buyer turned up and used an angle grinder to cut it in half on front of me to put it in his car! Said he was sending it to India for parts.

I love the Honda Helix! I had a 2006 a couple of years ago, and it's the only bike that I truly regret selling. One correction for you though. It only has a 12 inch rim on the front wheel. The rear wheel is a tiny 10 inch rim. The rear wheel is (in my opinion) the only weak point. the rear tire valve is a pain to reach, and all the weight at the back wears that tiny rear tire out fairly quick. But, it's still my favorite bike I ever had. I haven't found another one for a decent price since.

Funny that you mentioned Akira; In japan, they made a kit to turn a Honda Helix into a replica of the Bike from Akira; You can still find the kit, but it's expensive (more than the Helix itself in many cases)

Ah, my blossoming scooter boy, Yammy Noob! I must say, you're maturing into your older millennial final form with scooter finesse that has me smirking like a 1920s dapper dandy twirling his mustache! Embracing the scooter life, are we? Jolly good show, old sport! Your Honda Helix escapades have the charm of a speakeasy soirée, and watching you scoot about town is like witnessing a roaring 20s parade, but with a modern twist! Your scooting skills are smoother than a vinyl record spinning Run D.M.C. on a gramophone. I must say your tastes are becoming more refined, like a well-aged bourbon or PBR in a speakeasy joint. You've traded youthful exubberance for a seasoned hipster flair, and it suits you splendidly! I implore you to delve deeper into this two-wheeled subculture and create more scooter-centric content. Picture this: you, Yammy Noob, the seasoned scooter guru, roaming the streets, interviewing local scooter shops (plug for my favorite local San Antonio-Austin shop The Motorcycle Shop) while clad in suspenders, flip-flops, and a bowler hat, a true urban explorer of the wheeled wonders! And here's a thought to jazz up your future scooter escapades - how about hopping aboard a sleek Vespa in the near future? It's the epitome of retro chic, the Mona Lisa of scooters, the real OG, and it would suit you like a snazzy pocket watch complements a J.C. Penney tailored suit! So, off you go, dear Yam Yam, on your scooter adventures, with a delightful Vespa voyage on the horizon. You're embracing the scooter life with panache, maturing into your final 2 wheeled-bi-curious final form, and spreading scooter joy like a bootlegger/flapper girl spreading cheer during Prohibition! Hipsters and vintage aficionados everywhere shall unite in uproarious laughter and admiration for your daring dedication to the cycle life. Huzzah!

I bought my1987 Honda Honda Helix 250. Up to this date I’d never have owned a scooter. I loved this scooter until I got a new job at General Millls in 1991. I got a lot of slack about riding a scooter when most riders were riding Harleys. I sold it and quit riding for many yrs there after. I remember bringing home a 17 lb watermelon in the rear trunk with ease..👍 It was a remarkable scooter wishing I still had it today.🤔😬

This was my first "bike" when I went to high school. I had a 1989 in 1995. My parents said if I don't wreck it for 1 school year I could a real motorcycle. I made it and my dad went with to buy a 1986 V65 magna. My senior year was legendary. People didn't know the old Honda could spank their z28s an GT Mustangs.

I lived in china for 2.5 years back in 2009 and had rode several motorcycles. One of those was chinese copy of Honda Helix. It was exact copy except for analogue dashboard and engine, only 150cc. But man do i have good memories of this scooter. It was incredibly comfortable. I later had Honda Pacific Coast for a short while and it was even more comfortable, but Helix was so much more nimble. In my memory this was the most rider friendly bike i had. And as you said it's visible in traffic and offers great wind protection. And i loved the design too, the later more slick models of maxiscooters don't look so appealing to me.
