Hi great tutorial. Love how punchy the colors good. Are you able to share a power grade?

@@ZephaniaMaweleZM Thank you! A power grade for the grade I created in the tutorial? Otherwise there is a download for a power grade containing the node tree in the description😊

Amazing video! Just a few questions out of curiosity: 1. Why don't you start your node chain by applying a CST and converting your footage to DavinciWG/Davinci Intermediate? 2. I thought Density/Saturation adjustments are meant to operate within the node tree before the final CST - does applying it after result in a better look? 3. What if I wanted to do some split-toning? Where in the node tree would that take place? 4. Where would I insert a film-emulation tool like Dehancer if I wanted to use that instead of a LUT/Cineon Film Log? Cheers man keep doing your thing! Earned a sub 👏

Thanks a lot! 1. From what I've picked up, doing this is primarily useful when working on projects with several different cameras, such as documentaries typically would. Not sure if the fact that I'm shooting primarily on a Blackmagic camera which already has a flavour of their own color space baked in helps, but I've also never felt the need to convert anything before I start grading. 2. Before I discovered the HSV->Density method, I usually had a saturation node before converting til rec709. What I've found with the Density node is that the adjustments are less sensitive when applied afterwards because it's not given the color space correction from the CST. You can use it either way, but I prefer the extra increments I get from placing it after. 3. I'd do split toning on the LOOK ADJ node. 4. I haven't used Dehancer before, so I'm not entirely sure how it works. If it works like an "adjustable LUT" I'd place it in the same spot as the Cineon/LUT combo. Appreciate it! I might have to try out Dehancer, heard a lot of good things about it.

@ thanks for your input man! What's beautiful about color grading and what I've been discovering is that there are multiple ways to achieve similar results. It all comes down personal taste. Dehancer is fantastic! Give it a go. Looking forward to your next vid 👏

In an attempt to explain the reason why I use Density post-CST: here are two images with the exact same settings, but with the Density node placed before and after the CST. I prefer the "after CST" look. Again, I'm not a colorist so some things might not be technically correct, but as long as the end result looks good I'm happy. Great tutorial bro! one question though, how come you don't convert into DWG colorspace before starting to grade? just curious as everybody seems to recommend doing that!
@PatrikWestli6 күн бұрын
Thanks man! In all honesty this is one of the first times I've heard of DWG. I've watched a couple of videos on it now, and I think the primary reason why I haven't learned about it is that I shoot on the BMPCC6k Pro 98% of the time. I've never had issues with footage not behaving the same etc, which is the reason why you'd use DWG (at least reason I picked up from my little research). Also just trying to keep the number of steps to a minimum. Thank you for bringing it to my attention though! I'll definitely look into it the next time I've got a project with a lot of different cameras.
