I would love to be able to give you guys an all natural or organic sea sick remedy such as ginger, wrist bands or some magic plant, but the truth is all that stuff hardly works for those that are prone to motion sickness while boating. The only thing that has worked for people on my boat has been the active ingredient in Dramamine "Dimenhydrinate". Please comment below if you have a remedy that works very well for you.

One thing to avoid getting sick is to never lean over and face down while baiting a line or taking off a fish. Do it standing upright or you become sick almost instantly. Leaning down looking into a tackle box for too long will get you every time.

As an x padi instructor, a product called “trip tone” was sold exclusively in dive shops. Worked 100 percent. Formula was “sold?” To Walmart and is now sold under their generic brand for motion sickness . Seems to work as well as trip tone taken 1 hr before leaving dock without the side effects of bonine, which is the base of dramimi e.

Good Video, I have been Diving professionally for over 25 years all over FLA. I hate it when I get on board with a crew that claims they have never been seasick and act like its a shame if someone does. I generally will not use them in the future. I typically take newer divers out for their first handful of dives after getting certified and a good boat will wholeheartedly admit that they get seasick some times and that it is ok if they do as well. There is no shame in it and we can not control if and when we get sick. They do everything they can to help out their paying clients to mitigate the effects of motion sickness. I myself almost always get seasick and I don't care. I'm still gonna be out there diving and enjoying what the ocean provides me!

I tried Dramamine once and experienced the exact symptoms you described. Always wondered who would benefit from that. I'm pretty sure the "in the cabin" thing is caused by the difference between what your eye sees (everything is sitting still) and what your inner ear feels (everything is moving). That has made me sick before too.

I cured my motion sickness by spending a lot of time on a boat while it was docked. That way if I felt it coming on I could quickly get off. After several repetitions of this you will find yourself not fighting the motion and going along with it. Hope that makes sense, but it permanently ended my sea sick problem.

If someone is severely seasick and you are a long ways offshore, a temp emerg technique to stabilize the person before heading back to shore, is get them off the boat into the water. Tread water for 10-15 minutes. Then get them back in and race home!! 😀 learnt that from some dive charters.

I've done this for years now, always works even in rough water. I would only add that you have to have something on your stomach, eat breakfast if you can, just not a heavy or exceptionally greasy breakfast NO MILK OR DAIRY THOUGH. Also, you have to stay hydrated, I sip a 12 oz. bottle of water (the best thing to drink off shore) on the way out and always have a light lunch and maybe a snack or two while I'm out there. m out there

I have been battling seasickness for 38 years, fishing off the California coast. Best medicine for me has been meclizine as found in the pill called BONINE. Also known as less drowsy formula of Dramamine. I take one the night before, one first thing in the morning, one mid morning if needed. I avoid milk, coffee, orange juice for breakfast. My last tool has been to use the electric shock watch recommended by local Fishing Captain.. Truly works.

Excellent advise! I use Bonine and do exactly as mentioned, even start taking it a couple days prior to hitting the water It is crucial to get it in your system. Never realized it but I do agree now that you mention it keeping busy does help. Sitting around on the boat and doing nothing is brutal anyway. Another issue I ran into was using out of date meds. Found that out the hard way. Now I make sure meds are fresh fresh!!

Took dramamine and patches and I still got severe headaches and dizziness but strangely I didn't vomit, which happen when I didn't take anything. I also notice that I only get sick when the boat is still. If the boat is driving then I'm instantly...instantly okay. I've had the same problems in a hammock since I was a child. And I can't read while I'm in a moving vehicle. I really wish I can solve this because I love the ocean and every time I go out there in the deep to fish the other people look down on me because I'm not contributing to catching the fish because of my headaches. Sucks.

I always got seasick as a kid, and Dramamine would knock me out every time. The one thing I found that always worked and didn’t have any side effects is acupressure wrist bands. Put them on when you get on the boat and leave them on the whole time and you’ll have no issues, even in the cabin. I even wore them for a week straight sailing the keys. No issues!

Nope. Scopolamine Transdermal Patch. You’re welcome. Ive been on dive boats most of my life. Most trips, like 98%, I got sick. The condition of the ocean didnt matter. I just got sick. But, I lived diving so much, I still always went on the boats. None of that stuff worked for me. Yes, I started taking Dramamine and others, the day before🤷‍♂️. Then came Scopolamine Transdermal Patch. Its by prescription in the US🙄. Canada its not. Every time I use the patch, I do not get sick and it could be very rough seas. Try it.

After many many trips on fishing boats in calm and super rough water the best thing you can do is be rested, hydrated, and use the 24hr less drowsy Dramamine. Half before you got to bed and a Whole pill when you get up. Light breakfast and you should be good to go every time. Packing some unsalted crackers and ginger ale is a plus. You do all that you'll be fine. I think 🤔😁

I personally don’t get seasick, live on a yacht for 12 years and crossed many seas halfway across the globe… nothing… but hoping to find a solution for my wife who’s getting super ill from small movements ( not the big waves) we’ll try your tip. As for me… after being at sea eg after a hefty dinghy ride I need to be in calm water for a few hours… before I can go ashore safely. if I ignore that and go to land m??? After a few minutes it hits me hard. I lose my balance whilst nothing moves… ( terrible especially when I try to drive) hence land sickness… step back on the boat… over in seconds. And obviously since I know it I wait a few hours before I drive. My personal favourite remedy for sick guests is still pickels.. because you can take them when sick.. but it’s not for everyone

Dude... Oh something 19-footer or so.... The boat had a cabin on it... Got seasick as soon as we stop running... Right out the front of grays harbor West Coast.... 10 miles offshore.... Super hyped up to go fishing and catch some salmon... 5 minutes after he stopped that boat.... I got a huge urge to hang my head over the edge.... He says I'll tell you what all that nausea will go away if you sit in that chair right there put your head right up against the wall lean back and close your eyes.... That was absolutely amazed the nausea went away real quick I couldn't hardly believe it... So I had to run a test... And see what would happen if I opened my eyes... As soon as I open my eyes at the nausea came back that's all sensitive to human body is... Same thing happened when I took my head away from the wall.... So I had to just sit there the whole time with my head up against the wall my eyes closed I didn't have much fun I said to the skipper if we catch a fish I'll get up and net it but I got to sit right back down here cuz I got real weak when I felt the nausea... Very few skippers and people know about that trick and it does work...

This is correct. Also I never have alcohol the night b4 not even 1 beer. Pack some ginger candy in your lunch box too and the moment you start feeling the slightest bit queasy pop 2 in your mouth. In the 2 yrs I worked on a boat near shore even in 28 ft swells the BEST deterrent is to not focus on it (that uh oh feeling) its hard but you just have to put it out if your mind. By focusing on something else you can turn it off (some can anyway). Eat a healthy bkfst and stay hydrated. Glad you covered this, almost every day we had fishermen getting sick. Always felt bad for them.

Mostly if I drink the night before, but, I have had times where I’ve been seasick, even if I didn’t drink. I do not have to take Dramamine every day. I have a Charter so hoping to find a wayto get over this. It’s embarrassing to say that I’m a captain that has seasickness.

I get hurl and chum the water sea sick. The Dramamine as you recommend does work well. I like that patch that goes behind the ear too. Dude your channel is good. I like the info you put out.

The patch is good, just make sure to apply the night before. We had someone on the boat that applied about 4 hours before the trip and it was not effective.

I had taken sea sickness tabs the night before and in the morning went out on a fishing game boat the waves were about 15 20 feet high huge swell i was holding onto the rail for over two hours being sick because they had 15 other people fishing who also paid so they could not just take me back to shore but when the boat was moving again i stopped vomiting and i had such a headache like never before .

I took Bonine the night prior and had a difficult time waking up even though i slept 8 hours. I didn't have any nausea but i did experience dizziness on the boat.

Thanks for that, you know, with Scopolamine, I give the same advise, take it the night before. AND, you KNOW it is working, if in the morning, you have serious "dry mouth", when your mouth feels like cotton balls are in there--which doesn't feel great I admit, but then, I HAVE NEVER BEEN SICK. But here is the difference, Scopolamine is expensive and prescription while dramamine is cheap and over the counter. I will try your recommendation cause it's better to have a non prescription and inexpensive product, again, thanks for the tip.

Luckily I dont get seasick, what sucks is that very few guests will ever heed the advice to take it the night before and they end up spoiling the day for everyone else

Looking at the horizon works because it keeps what you see consistent with what your inner ear feels. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_sickness#Sensory_conflict_theory When those two things get disconnected is when you become motion sick. That’s why going into the cabin is the absolute worst thing you can do. The cabin does not look to you like it is moving, but your inner ear feels you rockin' and rollin'. Instant seasickness. You have to train yourself to keep your eyes on the horizon 99% of the time. Just one minute spent steadily looking down at something in the boat is enough for the "green gills" to get you. If you have to look down to tie on a new rig or something, make sure to look up at the horizon every few seconds. If it’s danger-rough out there, you’re probably going to get seasick no matter what you do. But if you follow the horizon method strictly, and use Dramamine exactly as the Captain says in this video, you will be fine most trips.

I'm ultra prone to any kind of motion sickness and the only thing that's ever worked when I go deep sea fishing (which I love to do) is wearing a "Relief Band" brand of electropulse watch that is much like a t.e.n.s. unit and taking Dramamine the way you say but just the Dramamine is not enough alone for me and I do one at the bed, one at wake up and one when I get on the boat and still get sick without the Relief Band, so if you're like me spend the $150ish dollars for the watch ...i wear it cranked up to five and it does the job if i leave it on high the entire trip.

@@TLTSofit so I used it for two weeks straight on a work boat I was on in the gulf. I didn’t even get the slightest bit sick feeling. I will say, I also took Dramamine and an over the counter ear patch. But I think the band helped the most. I’ve used the others in the past and still got sick.

Having heavy grease foods probably does not help. I have noticed over my 30 years of offshore fishing that one’s tolerance to the seas grows the more frequent exposure to offshore conditions you get.
