@emsicz3 жыл бұрын
@@SlackWorksCZ No it really isn't. 3.6 Superb has a software limit on top speed, because VW didn't want to cannibalize Passat 3.6 sales too much. Superb will not keep in 5th gear near top speed and will shift to 6 instead. Acceleration in higher speeds is also in favor of larger displacement engine. The 2.0 is faster off the line and also in 0-60 but not by much. One of the reasons Skoda is still not in the states is because they don't have the engine lineup for US style of driving. There is a reason why Ford and Toyota supply 2.5L 4 cylinders in their low end models. European engines are over engineered, full of electronics and made for short distance driving. The wear and tear rate in the US would be horrendous.

Well, I am from CZ, so here are some informations about this car, if you are interested. Basicaly, ALL cars from VW group are same. Different look, size, name but thats it. So if you drove Jetta, wich is popular in US, you have pretty much good idea about this car (actualy more like about Octavia, Superbs smaller brother, but its close). It is far from beamers, mercs and anything from premium sector, but it is well made and relatively comfortable, especialy for its price. Those tiny 1.4TSI engines are 1.4L Turbocharged, it is doing 110kW (150hp), dying pretty soon because VW cant develop good engine even after now almost 10 years of upgrades and reworks of critical parts, Skoda just mount engine to car so they can do nothing with it. That "all the way up to" 2.0TSI is again turbocharged, doing 220-280hp (few power variants). Again, dying pretty soon because exactly same problems like 1.4TSI. Interior is well made, i cant say anything bad about it, maybe again, IT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING I HAVE SEEN BEFORE! If you are looking for some nice car for good money with some durability, keep searching. And dont buy VW, eventualy they will bankrupt and Skoda will be free again! Now check out what skoda was working on before russia striked our country. www.imagehosting.cz/?v=skoda720se.jpg This should be contestor of Mercedes, BMW and everything. It had modular engine, from 1.3 up to 2.0L (75-130hp), it had EVERYTHING car can have in 1960s, it looked nice and everything. But after that commies came (basicaly no development at all), and VW after them (everything is developed elswhere and just mounted to cars).

Honza Volenec The reason Skoda often sold more in some European countries was that it was essentially the last model of VW but at a price from a decade before. The Fabia has not been a big seller as its hard to make a cheaper Polo and try and find a better style (Seat only cracked it with the Leon as its better looking than the golf, cheaper (a bit) and otherwise the exact same as the current Golf). Skoda did not sell more than VW because they were more modern, better looking, drove better, had better engines- they were just cheap VW tech.

Skodas, particularly premium Skodas, would sell with no problem in the US for exactly the same reason people buy them everywhere else. They're well built, reliable, and very good value for money. To get them off the ground in the US, the brand connection with VW could be used as a marketing tool. VW couldn't possibly object, as they obviously thought the company was good enough to invest in! And the VW brand is already strong in the US.
@bighands693 жыл бұрын
VW would have no reason to promote Skoda in the US. VW cars are well priced in the US and are at Skoda price points in the US. There would be no upside to VW promoting Skoda in the US. The whole purpose of VW Skoda is to pick up the price point below VW cars that would be in the range of the likes of Fiat and Renault.

It's very cool especially being a better value than VW. Problem for America is the last VW Passat Wagon didn't sell very well so it'd be very hard for to break even or profit. VW seems to be pretty clear in the sense that they don't want Skoda or SEAT to outsell them or make better cars than them (if I remember correctly Skoda got called out because the Superb was much better than the Passat, and something similar happened to SEAT too a while ago, with VW calling out SEAT because the Leon mk1 was far better than the Golf mk4). I think the problem is that Skoda does not fit into the brand strategy of VW in the US. Afaik VW is in the US basically considered the sort of brand that Skoda is in Europe. Nothing too fancy, not trying to prove anything, down to earth and good value for money. The Jetta in the US for example is less well made and has a cheaper interior than the Euro version, but it is also a lot cheaper to buy. Like a Skoda Rapid/Octavia sort of thing. VW in NA is going up against GM, Ford, Honda and the koreans, while VW in Europe is considered to be a step above them in terms of quality, more like a less expensive alternative to Audi/Merc/BMW. So to introduce Skoda they might also have to rethink how they position the VW brand on the NA market and that would be extremely expensive... Making the the cars the same quality that they are in EU means higher prices, and to explain that to the customer will require huge marketing expenses. But since they want to be largest car maker in the world, and the US is the largest market, I think they should do it. There are so many VW group models that they don't sell at all in the US, or in a downgraded version, I am sure there is some market share to be gained. By the way the US Passat (NMS) is basically what the Skoda Superb is. It's bigger than the European Passat with more legroom, but cheaper. So slightly less upmarket interior, not quite as much sound-proofing etc.
@Windows7Pro20095 жыл бұрын
But I do prefer the NMS Passat GT V6 (no longer sold) over the Superb as the Skoda is overrated in countries like India.

I'd love to have Skoda in the USA. If I wanted to buy one from Ireland or the UK how much would it cost to import it do you think?
@R1S0.9 жыл бұрын
Uk and Ireland are RHD, USA is LHD. so bying in UK/Ireland is irrelevant.
@juxtagenesis11209 жыл бұрын
RISO1984 I know they are RHD, that's why I specifically said I want to buy one from there. I want to drive a RHD car in a LHD country. It's safer because their driver's side would hit my passenger side should I be in an accident.
@R1S0.9 жыл бұрын
oh. but what about overtaking? you wont overtake? because it would be almost impossible in RHD car in LHD country, and surely not safer. not mention a legal part of this...can you legaly drive (for a longer period) RHD in LHD?

RISO1984 We regularly drive out Irish cars in Europe, it isn't all that hard to get used to be on the other side of the car for any maneuver.
@Grubelg2 жыл бұрын
Idk why would you need a network. Almost every part except for interior and body is the same as in passats, moreover it is easier to find a vw logo under the hood than skoda's

Neither Skoda, Renault, nor Dacia are present in the US, and it's a shame because they have so much value, each in its own way. Also VW models are nothing like the ones in Europe, no wonder they don't sell as good. All in all considered, I can't believe how much worse the average car interior is in any US car than in Europe. And people are loving it, like it's something to be happy about, worst products for the same money. People are buying 2nd hand ambient lights for their brand new 50k+ cars, while in Europe you have factory lights for cars even around 20k

"Everybody" does NOT get confused, some may. All of the U.S. Postal delivery vehicles are right-hand drive to make it easier for the purpose of mail "persons" to deliver to the boxes without getting out of the vehicle at each stop. The same was true with the last postal vehicles too. There are still some Jeeps available.Besides that I DO want a Skoda.

It's hideous. If it doesn't hold up better than a Hyundai than it is absolutely pointless over here. We'd rather Alfa Romeo or Peugeot, for that matter.
@nicemimomisu9 жыл бұрын
Peter Gerow Alpha or Peugot? Good luck with that :)
@petergerow55919 жыл бұрын
Well. If they were to send Skoda over here and have them manufactured in Mexico, like parent company Volkswagen, we WOULD indeed be better off with an Alfa or Peugeot. there used to be a language barrier with the latter two companies. I'd like to think that in those regards, Americans have become quite a bit smarter than we were in the 80's. If the Germans would prefer to do business with a romance language speaking nation to sell their vehicles to a Germanic speaking nation, than so be it. Point? VW's reliability over here is absolutely horrendous. And definitely, Alfa makes a much more beautiful driver involved car than Skoda could ever dream to manufacturer. Hell, a Hyundai looks better looking vehicle than Skoda (albeit, probably much more 'reliable' as well) and that was my previous point with the original comment. If it weren't for Volkswagen's quirkiness and big strong arm, they probably wouldn't have made it this far over here on this continent because again, their reliability is horrible and their business with Mexico is shoddy to say the least.

The problem is there are no skoda factories in north or south america. And the majority of the production is geared for the european market. Skoda could open 1 or 2 skoda dealers in selected states, import a few and see how things go on over there. And then perhaps the VW group could consider manufacturing US spec's skoda's.
@ScottZ3709 жыл бұрын
Seat need to become just a performance car manufacture in America with the cupra range only and Skoda really should not
