As a mechanic, I don't see a lot of Skoda cars in our service shop except yearly maintenance. They are basically a bit wider and longer version of Volkswagen, everything in these cars is Volkswagen parts, but still they are much more reliable and better build quality for much better price. Skoda are amazing.

Speaking as a Skoda Superb driver, I can't help but acknowledge, after stepping out of an Audi A6 today, why Audis come with a higher price tag. Skoda provides excellent value for money, no question about it, but the interior and overall design of its Volkswagen counterpart are leagues ahead - a fact that one must admit without any hint of envy.

Its actualy lots of VW branded parts, that SKODA engineered and manufacured for the concern unified platforms. This also goes for the engine RaD and many many other parts of the cars. As for now it is actualy almost impossible to tell what part was made where inside of the concern of VW, SKODA as both are intertwined a lot. Kind of a joke is that SKODA is realy expensive for Czech people in last few years. Its probably cheaper to buy SKODA in Germany than in Czech. republic. As reliability goes SKODA OCTAVIA I was a champion in that. I own one from year 2001, it still goes quite well, and have fuel consumption around 5L/100km of diesel and have over 500k km and the clock, that car will rust to dust sooner than that engine would fail. Modern skodas, are reliable mechanicaly, but electronics is entirely different story...

Hi Ian from czechia once again. About the badges Škoda uses on it's models, RS indeed are 'sporty' and performance focused trims of higher models such as Octavia, Superb or Kodiaq. For smaller and cheaper models they used Monte Carlo badge, although it used to be more of a design pack for car than any great performance upgrades. There's also top tier luxury variant for most of its models called Laurin&Klement which is named after the factory founders in Mladá Boleslav, hometown for Škoda. About 4x4, as far as I know Škoda is using Haldex AWD systems, same as in vw group, with rear wheel always powered. Btw Octavia isn't sedan but a liftback, meaning the rear window opens with trunk, giving u much more access space. And Superb is the biggest model except SUVs. I recommend you to search up for some Škoda features named, same as brand slogan, Simply Clever. Ice scrub hidden in fuel lid is my favourite. Love from Czechia ❤

@@coqzilla3811 Nope. During the Soviet / Russian occupancy Skoda engineers despite all the government obstacles created several modern prototypes. But everything of that was later banned by Moscow as the Russian cars (Ladas and Volgas ... not really their - just easternized licenced western copies) had to be considered as the best in the eastern block. Thus Skoda or the Eastern German Wartburg were forced to make just a cheaper simpler design - not because they didn´t know how to make a better ones. If Skoda engineers had the chance to work in a democratic regime like three decades before the Soviets took over Czechoslovakia in 1948 they surely would be able to keep up with the modern world. While Škoda is part of the Volkswagen Group, they are using the Volkswagen modular system MQB pretty freely (In the case of the 2023 Škoda Octavia, it's the MQB evo). The Škoda version is usually larger than the other Volkswagen Group counterparts. It is also often the budget variant, while still maintaining the quality. That's why many European companies opt for Škoda for their fleets. And that's why the station wagons are very popular -- for the field service technicians and the salesmen it is roomy enough to haul their stuff while at the same time has a low fuel consumption to keep the travel costs in check.

Skoda are very long established brand in the Czech Republic, predating ww2. They also had a heavy vehicle division before WW2 and made some fairly good tanks for the Czech military, 2 types of which were taken over by the Wehrmacht and used during WW2, One was the T-35 which supplented the Panzer 2 and one was the T-38, which was later adapted by the Germans into the Hetzer Assault gun and Tank Destroyer. The Hetzer was probably the most successful Ta k Destroyer as it was small, low and packed a high velocity 75mm gun. The Original T-38 had a 37mm cannon.

Many years ago I had the original Octavia vRS. It was a 2002. Skoda was building its reputation back then in the UK and I can honestly say they did a great job. The dealers were on the small side, but amazing. Knowledge for the cars, pricing and customer service was second to none, even compared to the premium brands like BMW. The car itself was totally reliable and quick too (180bhp standard, a bit more after I had mine mapped). A few police forces bought Octavia vRS's due to their speed and huge boot and of course all the taxi firms bought the diesels which ran forever. When I traded my car in for a BMW, the dealer took it out for a spin and came back with a huge smile on his face. Having never driven a Skoda before he was grinning like a cheshire cat and just said "well, I wasn't expecting that!". Sums Skoda up perfectly. They fully deserve where they are now.

Well, don't be surprised. All the cars from the Škoda 742 series (Škoda 105, 120, 125, 130) were plagued by all the problems of the failing communist central planning economic system. Due to policital meddling and extreme lack of funding they had to build this on the chasis and drivetrain (including the engine at the back) from the previous and totally obsolete Škoda 100/105 (or to be more exact Škoda 1000MB, which was in production since 1964!). Thus it was prone to oversteering, the engine had a lot of reliability issues and wore out quickly. Due to use of cheap materials and obsolete production techniques the car body was prone to rusting in certain places. The design made the car look strangery cheap and almost "amateurish" I would say. Luckily after the fall of communism Škoda was allowed to flourish and to regain part of its pre-WWII renown.

@@CzechMirco I didn’t have any reliability issues with my other two rear-engined Škodas. As for rust, I thought they were pretty resilient, certainly compared to Western cars of a similar age. They were certainly made with thick enough steel, and screwed together well. Sure, the interior was cheap, the styling dated, and the engineering a little primitive, but they were good cars for the little money they cost. They were miles ahead of the Soviet and Polish competitors in every way, and don’t forget that at the same time, you could still buy a Renault R4, a 2CV or Mini, none of which were much more advanced.

Hi. I have a third generation Octavia facelift scout version and I also have a 2.0tdi 135kw 184hp. Scout is actually a crossover version of Octavia. I also have a 6-speed automatic and that car is brutal. I can tow a braked trailer up to 1800kg, and the version with a 7-speed dsg transmission, which was installed there since 2019 for the scout model, can tow up to 2000kg, or then the 110kw 2.0tdi with a manual transmission, also 2000kg. As such, the Octavia is a very versatile car, and the Scout is even more so, since in addition to roads, you can also take it somewhere in the woods and so-called "offroad". a lot of people think it's just a plasticized Octavia because it has a bodykit that adds protection to the car's wheel arches and thresholds and has different bumpers. The Octavia Scout can handle a surprising amount of things in the off-road considering that it is a family combi. And if it has tires like mine, BFgoodrich AT KO2, specific size 215/65r16, it's a really good car, the engine has power and 4x4 is very capable, and at the moment I have it even higher, even though the original is 3 cm higher than the normal Octavia, I added more 4cm+ :D at the moment it is a family off-road station wagon. BTW in Germany I would say more than 90% of the Octavias are wagons, Saloons are very rare. My former one was a Scout too, but with the 2 Liter 150 hp Diesel and manual gear. Both great cars. BTW at least in Germany many former VW customers changed to Skoda, even big companies - comparable if not better solutions and performance, but cheaper. Skoda is the largest importer of cars in Germany - and was so for years.

For future reference: a Skoda with a VRS badge is a top of the line model, not just a body kit, those have an "RS-line" badge. It has a 2L engine that pumps out a minimum of 200bhp to all four wheels, but I believe (I may be mistaken though) the typical sporty audi 4x4 transmission on all VRS skodas always sends about 65-70% of the power to the rear wheels, resulting in more than decent acceleration while also keeping enough traction on the front wheels so you don't spin out as easily as you would in a purely rear-wheel drive car. I've test driven a previous model VRS with a 2L diesel engine, before they forced automatic transmissions on all the VRS models, and I can tell you I loved every second of it! I drive a normal 1.6L diesel Octavia in daily life, so I know the chassis well and the additional power was mighty exhilerating!

Škoda in The 70s were a laugh and had a string of jokes culture around them, such as “how do you double the price of a Skoda” Fill the petrol tank 😂 or “what do you call a Skoda cabrio” a Skip 😂😂 Then VW bought them out in 91 and changed there fate around to become an excellent well priced car, good quality. In Madrid 90% of the taxis just a few years ago we’re Skoda Superb, which says a lot on quality and reliability

Likely to be the Cupra cos $$. Cupra is a spin-off from SEAT, which is the Spanish arm of VW and very similar to Škoda esp re software etc.

Mine is the lower spec 150PS Octavia Estate SEL TDi. Before buying I had a look at what taxi drivers and Paramedics were driving, they always go for the most reliable cars, and this was it. Bought it January 2017 and so far have had 100% reliability, with a best fuel consumption over a 250 mile trip averaging 81.6 mpg. Very easy to get over 60mpg anytime I do more than 20 miles, and usually get into the 50's around town. The boot is huge and can take just about anything you can throw at it. The only regret I have is I didn't order it with the panoramic roof, will do so with the next one.

Just point of view from a regular Octavia owner. They make a lot of SUV-ish models as everyone and I don't know those, but Fabia is the small car (subcompact?), Octavia is the compact, and Superb is mid size, so these are different size categories. I drive a 2017 Octavia combi myself, which is previous generation facelift version (1.4 TSI, 150 Hp / 250 Nm). It's not fast, but suitable for crusing until 160ish kph (gets noisy above that). People in some European countries seem to love diesel (a bit less nowadays, diesel new car sales are decreasing) but it's common opinion that diesel is good if you drive a lot of long distance (lot of highway use), while gasoline is more reliable if you use it on smaller distances (on cold engine). Since I do quite a lot of small trips of 3km, 6km, 10km I went with gasoline one. Plus I never got used to diesel, for me it's associated with agricultural vehicles and trucks, and doesn't feel very sporty because of the different engine characteristic (lower rpms), more vibrations, different sound. Of course it offers better consumption, you save about 1 - 1.5L compared to gasoline. Brand doesn't mean a lot nowadays, it's a slightly different VW with basically same mechanics and electronics (Fabia = Polo, Octavia = Golf, Superb = Passat), however Octavia is considered a bit lower class (bit worse materials and equipment) than the Golf Variant (combi) but it's roomier. Skodas used to be the budget option, they aren't cheap nowadays. Similar VW brother was the Seat which I think they are killing at the moment, in the video you watched there was a grey Seat Leon in the background I believe which is also the Seat equivalent of Golf / Octavia, slightly different design with pretty much same engines, gearbox, suspension, often even infotainment and many of the components and functionalities. Octavia RS main competitor around here would probably be the Hyundai i30N (Veloster N in US), Focus ST (i believe at some point you had it in US), or Honda Civic type R. These are generally more sportier but less practical perhaps, only the Focus has a combi version. I used to have a Focus 2nd gen before, that was more fun to drive (better steering wheel response, better throttle response) but the Octavia is, even though same class, considerably roomier, the rear leg room is a lot better so it's better for long trips for 4 people. It's kind of an odd one out as it seems to be a half size above its class. I was originally looking for mid size (mazda 6 being a favorite) but being a compact it was quite a bit cheaper, probably also cheaper to maintain, while it doesn't feel a compromise in terms of room. Few times a year I do trips of 1000km or above and while I could imagine better cars, it's quite OK for the money I paid for it. I prefer these to SUVs and my next car will also be either a combi or maybe as hatchback (would love a type r or an i30n). First of all I don't like potato looking cars (apparently I'm a minority with this), also Suvs generally use more fuel and emit more while they don't really have more usable space, you just sit high, and have worse acceleration and braking due to excess weight and worse aerodynamics.

That "RS" badge is more of a "sports line" thing nowadays, though. Apparently (and sadly), the mother company (VW) does not want Skoda to be truly competitive with their sports models anymore.

Škoda was too ambitious at one point so VW put a stop to that so now they can no longer be the "best" at what they do (which would be basically creating better alternatives to VW cars for better price), unlike Seat (a Spanish brand also belonging to VW) who were allowed to create a subdivision called Cupra which recently separated who were and still are allowed to use the maximum out of shared parts and that's why you have a car like the Cupra Formentor VZ5 with the famous Audi 2.5l 5 cylinder engine meanwhile Škoda isn't even allowed to make an alternative to a Golf R, only the Golf GTI.

The standard Ovtavia Combi price here in the EU is around €30,000 ($32,135.85) and the RS is around €48,000 ($51,417.36). And of course you can spend €5,000 to €10,000 on extras. But it's worth it. The RS, with its all-wheel drive, is rocket fast and the handling is remarkable. And it's super safe, stable and reliable, basically a car for a lifetime.

And at the same time it has more legroom and boot space than Mondeo for less, carried me, my GF and my friend, stuff for a week for all three and two kegs of beer easy 😎, as well as my son from thr hospital for the first time. Right until the moment some dumbass didn't give way and sent me into yet another car 😢. And even then she saved my life. RIP my Blue Rocket. It’s the third generation of Octy RS I’ve owned in a row. Because it has got the same engine, transmission and everything else as Golf GTI (but it’s bigger), it has a huge tuning potential thanks to companies like APR, Revo, etc. My previous RS was tuned to 400 hp and I loved it :) it’s now reliably serving my friend. As you said in the video, they are part of the VW group and the Octavia shares it's engine with the Golf GTI 6/7/8th gen. You can also get it with a turbodiesel engine and with all-wheel drive. They cost from 31.000 euro (base model RS with petrol engine) up to 48.000 for the PHEV.

In Germany Škoda cars in many places are considered the more volky Volkswagens because they have been cheaper while using the same technological platforms and adding some smart extras the original VW pendants do not sport. Originally this may have been implemented to overcome the drawbacks of being restricted to previous tech stacks in former days but meanwhile every VAG brand can draw from the current level of the enterprises kit. I drive a similar Octavia RS MK4. Though gas powered and not 4x4 but also with DSG automatic gearbox. My Color is the originally RS exclusive Race Blue Metallic which actually isn't that exclusive anymore. Essentially it's a VW Golf/Jetta GTI Wagon with a different makeup. The infotainment system is crap but that's the case for allmost all VAG Models of the generation because they share the same basic software.

The Superb is like the Passat: "The top tier" Premium Model vom Skoda oh and yeah its slightly bigger its like the Octavia is based on the Golf Variant which equals the A4 about size wise while the Superb is like said the Passat and A6 sized so more Premium and larger which is nice for people above 1.90m also the Kodiaq is awesome for tall people. But I was suprised aswell how awesome Skoda became the last 10 years while VW Design and Quality didnt really got better (Design even worse) we went for a Kodiaq which is named after the Kodiak bear/island whatever all there SUVs ends with a Q though. Its an awesome car and better plus cheaper than the more popular VW Tiguan imho and we drove VW for decades in our Family. Modern Skodas are great understandment but quality cars which you could still effort with realiable VW Engines. So cant go wrong with a Skoda.

Skoda being part of VAG, same as Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Porsche, Lamborghini, Rolls, Bugatti, etc..., they share both the basis and the engines with VW, as well as some accessories. Although cheaper than VW, Skoda cars have a better reliability reputation, are larger (bigger trunks, more back seat leg room) and are better built. The Superb is the Passat of Skoda, the Oktavia is the Golf. Thanks for your work which I watch with great interest from Luxembourg.

I own the predecessor to the current Octavia , it’s a 2013 Octavia hatchback/sedan just like the ones you saw on the site just you know the previous generation, very solid cars very good interior quality nice handling it’s a mix between sporty and comfortable, the shock absorption could be softer but you have the option of a adjustable suspension, I have a 2.0 TDI manual 150hp 236 ft-lb torque (320nm) it sips on fuel is capable of doing 150mph on a good day and you don’t feel tired after driving all day and over 400 miles, with time left of the day because autobahn, I love it, it’s got auto everything, lane keep assist , traffic sign recognition, intelligent bi-xenon which depending on the driving situation distributes the light accordingly (wether you drive in town on a county road or fast on the autobahn), led taillights, comfortable seats partial cloth and „leather“ canton soundsystem, heated windshield and washers 360° parking sensors and autonomous parking I probably forgot something all that for sub 14k € used of course 😄 I’m currently at 118000~ miles (converted) and it’s a happy camper ❤️

Have a manual transmission of the car in your video but in black metallic and RS Plus, however the car in the video was missing lots of options and they didn't talk about all the cool stuff. Umbrella in the doors. Camera washer jet on the back. USB C port by the rear view mirror for your dash cam. Sleep package with special rear headrests and blankets. Memory seats with massage for both. Multiple way adjustable DCC suspension. Any many more things. Another amazing thing are matrix LED headlights that are amazingly good. Tons and tons of stuff that isn't available in a Golf (which it shares platform with). It's actually slightly larger than the Golf. RS comes with a 200hp TDI with DSG in FWD or AWD (4X4 in Skoda talk), 245hp 1.4 plug in hybrid which comes only FWD and DSG, 245hp 2.0T TSI (same exact engine as MK8 GTI) in 6spd manual or 7spd DSG - both with limited slip diff. Current NX generation Octavia outsells the Golf and Cupra Leon cousins. It's the best looking, had Skoda sold a more hardcore version of the RS with 300hp engine and AWD it would be parked in my garage. Superb is much bigger car, it's about 5 series size. FYI the Octavia and Superb (non Combi) are actually 5 door lift backs that aren't sedans... With huge trunks.

I own a Skoda Fabia 2015 (the estate version). I really didn't plan on buying one, it just happened. After my original car deal fell apart I decided to have one last check online and expanded the search to include all cars. This one looked interesting online with a special trim package in white with black accents, alloy trims, panoramic roof, heated seats, sports wheel... Really good looking car, the engine is a 1.2L 110hp petrol. It happened to be the next city over to where I had to go for a work trip, popped over to see it with my friend and haven't regretted it since. I don't have anything bad to say about it after owning it for a while, it has been reliable and very comfortable to drive. It was also very difficult for me to find a vehicle that would suit me as I am 6ft 1inch tall so regular small European cars feel cramped for longer drives (especially in the leg area). As a pleasant surprise the Fabia is spacious, I have driven 4 people in it and transported lots of luggage and a bike in the trunk with no problems.

Most of the vw groups higher power cars are 4x4. They use a Borg Warner, Haldex clutch system. Its bascially a hydraulic clutch thats can regulate the speed of the axels. Most of the time it sends all of the power to the front for efficiency. But will go full 4x4 and send half of the power to the back if you mash the throttle. Its also uses it in the stability control in low grip like in snow and ice.

(The fastest Škoda Superb and also the fastest Škoda is the Superb Sportline with the 280hp 2.0 TSI engine goes to 60 in about 5 seconds) And you're actually right the prices went up quiet a lot in the past years, here are some examples: Octavia:from 19k dollars to 26k Octavia RS: From 32k to 46k Thank you for making this video hope you'll have a great day!

The "RS" stands for "Rallye Special" on Škoda, and it all started with 2000is Škoda Fabia RS whitch was production derivate from the actual Rallye Special Fabia made for races and it was really popular so they took the concept of better performance and made Octavia and SuperB in RS variant with the generation change (around 2004) for the second gen cars. And yeah, you said it right, SuperB is a little longer than Octavia, and is a little bit more luxurius - sometimes refered to as Limusine. And as you were talking about the prices, theese were in Czech Crowns (CZK), whitch is like 1/24 of US Dollar (1 USD ≈ 24 CZK).

I own one similar like this. In Corrida Red like the thumbnail. The iV models from Skoda are the electric models or the plug-in-hybrid models. I own a Octavia vRS PHEV. It comes with a 1.4L petrol engine that has about 150 HP combined with a about 90 HP electric motor. Total system power is 245 HP. It can run on full-electric up to 130km/h and has a range of 50 KM that comes from a 13 kWh battery (only 10 kWh is usable) that is mounted under the rear seats (underneath the care off course). Its the same drivetrain used in the VW Passat GTE and/or Golf GTE. sorry for your requirement to calculate; we use metric here and not imperial. What i did notice that this model is not really full option. I have it with leather seats and a heated steering wheel and some other gimmicks (btw, seats are the same, but not cloth like this) but i thought all vRS models comes (like mine) with Dynamic Chassis Control; DCC wich are electric adaptive shocks. But when he shows the ride modes it seems that this car does not have it. Perhaps it has something to do being a diesel and 4x4. But i do no that there are small differences between countries. That i find a bit strange. Octavia will be replaced by next generation somewhere in end 2025/ beginning 2026 according to the rumors. SuperB is a bigger and more specious care. The new 2023 SuperB (and the identical) VW Passat (without labeling it GTE) will be announced in a few months. Both will come with updated drivetrains: 1.5L petrol and a larger battery for the PHEV models (25-27 kWh) for about 100km range. Same drivetrain will be for the next gen Octavia in a few years.

I remember looking for the Oktavia, like 7 yrs ago. So many options, but most combinations were not permitted. In my case, e.g., getting a 4x4 RS with manual and patrol engine was not possible. 4x4 was restricted to diesel and automatic....with the comment "...for our sporty driving style customers"....lol. Had it as a rental, though. Nice car.

MK1 Octavias are 25 years old. I would know, my family owns one that is only a month younger than myself. I hope some Americans bring those into the US!

I got my Skoda Octavia FSI (1Z) in 2008 new and it's still running strong after 300.000 km. It's super reliable, especially compared to the Citroen I had before.

Correct me if i am wrong, In UK Skoda Superb was for multiple times chosen as best car of the year and also Topgear and Carwow are referring it as best bang for the buck car. Also at some point couple of years ago there was campaign in US with Skoda superb, when this car was driver, i thing in New York as part of the possible launch campaign. I hope i am not mistaken but maybe there will be still some sources online.

The 4x4 is a haldex system. The Octavia shares it's platform and drivetrain etc. with the golf, a3 etc. Superbs are larger and shares it's platform with the Passat.

My dad sold his octavia 1st generation like 2 years ago, it was 20 yrs old car with over 300k km, the car and engine ran like new. He still sold it for $3000. Boot is huge, we were considering skoda octavia combi but bought vw golf variant but prices were exactly the same, it is almost the same car but skodas design is way better/sporty than vw in my opinion.

I am Czech and might have a slight bias, but especially modern day Škoda cars have insane cost to performance ratio. For the money you pay you get a really nice car that gets the job done. If you are buying outright, you can customize it to an insane level for a very fair amount of money. Due to Škoda not being considered a flex brand, a lot of taxi drivers, cops and security companies buy them in the UK. Skoda even provides a heavily armoured version of the Superb for VIPs that is very popular, since they are safe, luxurious enough, as well as extremely private. Nobody is turning their heads at a black Škoda. The only issue is waiting times for delivery, but honestly that is any car manufacturer nowadays.
