johnny moore. .. I have a 2000 stove stock 4Runner 5 speed SR5.. 225,000 miles. Zero rust here in so. Oregon. . Starter and radiator replaced. All services done and "over serviced" ie more than required. . I have the biggies done at the Toyota dealership. Timing belt and H20 pump were replaced every 90 K as per required. I replaced the front brakes and discs twice and the front and rear shocks and springs at 200K. The sunroof works occasionally, I don't care for them so little use. The radio works when the ambient temperature is above 70 degrees. I rarely listen to the radio when driving so not a serious issue. Just spent $1200 on tires and an alignment it did not need. I have a spare set of OEM steel wheels with studs mounted for winter use. I averaged 17 MPG over the 20 years I have owned the vehicle. I have a 2016 Tundra, POS compared to this 4 Runner. As Truck the TUNDRA is a joke. I like it I don't love it. A cupholder on wheels. It needs some minor upholstery work on the driver's seat and a new left door seal which I have. I replaced the rear door struts with some aftermarket crap last year as the new OEM were about $180 apiece. The originals last 20 years, the replacements have lasted one year. But 1/4 the price. I may treat it to some OEM struts soon. Needs a left visor, factory units discontinued in my color (tan) the grey ones look like Spit and are about $85 each and also discontinued, some stock left. I'll keep looking for a good used one or find a way to repair this one. I took two Yakima racks and made one rack out of them which fits perfectly from the back edge of the sun roof to the rear upper spoiler...I have a bunch of clamp on goodies to mount my stuff, but unlike the posers with their jacked up junk and self applied mud, I don't put that stuff on to profile around town.. I load up when I take off on a jaunt. I have owned 130 cars and trucks, 25 years in the car biz 11 retail, 14 working for High Line Euro makes and 7 1/2 years of that with Mazda Motors of America as a District manager.. So far, Toyota is the best.. their new age customer service is not quite what it used to be but better than the rest.. Mazda is still good.. too bad they don't make a truck. I will not part with this 4 Runner. After I go to the parking lot in the sky my wife will keep the 4 Runner... Did I mention that she was the first , and when she replaced it with her first Highlander ( she now has a 2018) , she made me buy the 4 Runner from her.. It was a good deal at $11K..she wanted cash. : ) She will also keep my 1963 MGB Roadster...

I have 233,000 miles on it now and have always done the required maintenance either on or before time and it still runs like new. I wouldn't hesitate to drive cross country at the drop of a dime. There's a reason why the 3rs gen 4runners continue to be the most sought after platform after all these years and hold their value.

I had a 99 2WD and they do last foreever. They ride kind of rough but it's a tough suspension so it's trade off. I got 21-22 on the highway after cutting a bigger hole in the air box for more air flow. A little more midrange power too. Hauled a few cars on my car trailer with it too. Plenty of torque.

I bought my 97 V6 4wd limited, just like this one, last july after watching your original review on a 4Runner. I got it for a little over $5k total, to include those pesky dealer fees. All I had to do was put a muffler on it, change the alternator, spark plugs and wires, and two tires, and an oil change. I am getting ready to change the other two tires and the radiator, and I had the battery, terminals bolts, wires, and starter changed because a bad mechanic had me waste my money. All together, great vehicle if you take care of them, and I baby mine. The only major issue was a previous owner or mechanic did a bad job with the windshield and the seal is coming up and it's rusting around the channel, but nothing some JB Weld Steel Stik Epoxy Putty can't fix as windshields and rust are expensive if done right. The previous owner went to college I think in Idaho and was from Virginia Beach, or vice versa. But I got it with about 200k miles, and now it's about 230k, we don't drive it very far.

Worth.....heck, I did not even know what a 4Runner was at the time, but after driving it for only ten minutes, I fell in love.....6 months later I bought another 2000 4Runner....same model and drive train (3.4 V6 2WD).....I have done restoration on both and have them dialed in to original performance......I think they will outlast me... :)

I’ve heard those little devices make for a much more inspiring ride, but I don’t want to damage the drivetrain or void my warranty. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
