My car buying philosophy over the last 30 years has been to buy a Toyota with around 100K miles. Often people start getting nervous about seeing those 6 digits on the odometer and feel they need to sell before it starts "breaking down". I have never been disappointed in my purchase!

I bought mine with 180.000 ..counted as an almost new for the milage it had. Nothing wrong with 6 digit if you have toyota especially 90s examples.Real cars.

Changed timing belt twice with 2 water pumps steering and suspension bushes with tyres needing changing at 460k for on road compliance. Servicing is done every 6 months. Last month it only needed new drivers seat belt for compliance. My wife has a 2007, 2L Corolla bought with 120k on the clock. @bobdobb90179 ай бұрын
@@indepmg It could be a good deal; everyone says it’s a Best Buy used car if you can afford the gas. Of course used cars have overall Maintenence issues so have a Mech examine it, get under it, test drive it. Find out what has been replaced because at that length probably everything like ball joints has at least once. My understanding is the timing belt needs replacement every 65k, which I should probably have done since I’ve run it over 65k in the time I’ve had it. I wouldn’t be so concerned about the engine if everything else seems good, because the chance a 400k rated engine lasting another 100k is probably higher than a 150k engine lasting another 50k if you know what I mean. but you have to factor in an engine replacement sometime, so it wouldn’t hurt to price that out in advance. It’s a job a backyard mech can do with a salvaged engine. It is true the Toyota 4.7liter engine is just getting broken in when other engines are having their final days.

Notice the antenna is up when the car is off. The original stereo would lower the antenna. That's because new stereos don't have a separate power line for the antenna. You have to wire it to the main stereo power and then it doesn't go up and down like the original. The fix is to wire a rocker switch just for the antenna power. Then I turn it off before turning the car off. The antenna will go down when you turn off the car. It will go up whenever you turn the rocker switch on.

07 Sequoia SR5 with 251k mi. The usual broken rear door latch- which I made a bypass latch. Rusty dog legs- frame only has surface rust, and I will grind it down, seal, paint and apply military grade oil coating. About to change the water pump timing belt soon along with driveline fluids, and next year get some new headers for the manifold tick. She's thirsty, but she drives really nice!

Ordinarily, you are right. But in today's McDonald's culture, people never take the time to properly take care of their vehicles and do proper maintenance, nobody even knows proper break-ins actually exist, and if they do maintenance, they put crap oil in it and have junky maintenance from those 5 minute oil change places. unless you know the exact history, older cars will most likely need major repairs like Transmissions, piston wear, corroded coolant lines, etc

I have a 2010 Toyota RAV4 with 170,000 miles and a 2009 Toyota RAV4 with 120,000 Miles and honestly both of them are nothing but trouble non stop issues from transmission to suspension.
@23456kingston Жыл бұрын
Rav4s are one of those Toyota cars which you really need to follow regular maintenance. The 4wd suspension system is complicated and the engine is known to have leaks( easily fixed with a valve gasket change ) and the tranny is sensitive too. Nonetheless here in middle east no older rav4 has less than 400k miles on them so yes they're problematic but with good maintenance they will last for a lonnnnnnng time.

@@missouribushwhacker9449 Thanks for replying! It appears that your car has a non-interference engine. That's good news. (For anyone who doesn't know..... It means that the engine won't be damaged (almost always?) in the event of the timing belt breaking.

My 1998 Sienna is in much better condition. As long as parts are still widely available, I will keep it in perfect mechanical condition. I have already upgraded and rebuilt everything, and any worn bushing on the van. Runs like new! Insurance is cheap! No car payments. The only engineering flaw in the Gen1 Sienna is the control arms were designed for a 4 cylinder transaxle and the van has a 3.0V6 on the same 4 cylinder suspension. The acceleration and braking pressure is all on the ball joints and control arm bushings, which MOOG control arm assemblies begins to wear out about every 35k miles. Otherwise the van is indestructible! The same control arm is in the Camery also. But with the intended 4 cylinder engine, they will last forever, if the rubber is good.
