This one is really a beautiful piece. That picture of luminiscence taken in the shade, wow! But of all the watches you have reviewed, I fell in love with that red buttoned Hahnhart flieger. And I also remember fondly that first Leica watch you reviewed here - truly jaw dropping experience, another discovery of engineering beauty that left me in awe. Well done and I wish you that watchmakers would keep making these little wonders for you and all of us to enjoy them in coming years

Wow, that is a beautiful watch! After many years of watch collecting and having double-digit watches in my collection, I have definitely come to realize that I gravitate toward watches with full Arabic dials. Those really speak to me and this Dornbluth is a really fine example. May have to add this to the list.

My first "real" watch is one I modded myself because I couldn't find what I was looking for and then I learned you can mod them. The whole idea scared the crap out of me but after planning it and doing it step by step I got it done. It's not an expensive watch, in total it was less than 600 including the tools, but I love it. It's MY watch and there is no other like it, having a attachment to it and knowing the journey behind it makes it invaluable.

A truly unique and very special watch Pete. It's amazing how a watch, sometimes expensive other times cheap, can hold such incredible emotional value in our hearts. For me, and you know I have a big collection, the one watch I will never let go is a simple Casio G-Shock DW5600 worn by my Dad. It's old and full of nicks and scratches. My Dad loved this watch. And to me it is the most valuable watch in the world. A very Merry Christmas to you and your family, and may God bless you all always, brother.

Pete, thank you so much for this review. It reminded me once again why I love this hobby so much! I think if you get caught up in brand names, you’re really restricting your exposure to amazing pieces like this one. I buy a watch with exactly the same approach that you do, if it moves me if it speaks to me, that’s my main motivation. That’s what keeps bringing me back to your channel, your passion for time pieces is so evident, as opposed to a lot of reviewers that seem to be trying to sell you on what they’re reviewing. Great watch. You're even particularly lucky you didn't have to wait at least a year to have one made for you. Ready to buy when you were there. I'd love to spec out and have a bespoke one made some day. Although I think the smaller case size would be preferable for my 7" wrist. I have to say there certain details and proportions of the dial of the larger 42mm size like the one you have that look better. Particularly the small seconds is perfectly centered and the size of it fills up the space between the center and the outer dial. The smaller 38mm doesn't do that. The next best thing, maybe better, is having drilled through lug holes. You can easily remove any strap with those. I don't mind if it makes the outside less clean. It makes changing straps easy and way less stressful.
@gordonshkurhanАй бұрын
That is a beauty! Love the colour. I've got one on the way but from time to order to time of delivery will be about a year. I went with a traditional 3-hand with engraved markers, red 12 with a matching sweeping seconds hand. I can't wait to get it! It took you a week to make the decision? It took me several years! No regrets though. Like you, I prefer to buy quality watches that fly under the radar. It's like my Habring Erwin Pilot. It has a drop-beat seconds hand that many people mistake for a quartz movement. I like that sort of thing. As you say, only the people in the know, know. I live in Hong Kong where status is everything and you can't turn around without seeing a Rolex of some sort. Not my thing at all. I'll happily take the hand-crafted pieces all day long. Keep enjoying the watch!

I was seriously tempted to purchase one of these. The basic movement with white dials are fanstantic value but a tad dull. When you start to customise the watch, big date, large second hand, nicer dial etc .. the price jumps up considerably firmly into the territory of offerings from the likes of moritz grossmann, glashute original etc..

Glad you love it Pete, its a beautiful watch , although its not my cup of tea. Im surprised at 42mm and a 52 mm lug 2 lug , that you actually love it. Normally you'd be saying its too large etc. But thats the beauty of this hobby , and why its so important to actually try the watch on the wrist. Some work and others don't, and sometimes we just can't explain it. I still love my seiko sla043, but sometimes wish it was a tad bigger for me. My tudor chrono is 41mm and hits my sweet spot , so I'm lucky I love both in different ways. Ive also got a formula one tag thats only 38mm which is tiny for my 19cm wrist , but strangely it works ? Have I learnt anything about watch sizes yet , apparently not , but I have learnt to enjoy what you like. Have a great Xmas m8 , you work incredibly hard , and im in awe of what you do. Your definitely one of the legends on watches now , and fully deserve that accolade.

I have complimented you on this watch choice before. I love your etthics and attitude to watches. I would like to agree but disagree on the point of the quick release springbars. I, too, prefer a quick release springbar as it reduces a lot of hassle and greatly reduces the risk of scratching the case but on pure aesthetics when you have such a beautiful movement on display and old fashioned strap and springbar combo looks best in my opinion. I wish you a very happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year.
