This song talks about sa too. "The woman who doesn't want it is much hotter than the one that does" or "being desired takes importance over desiring".... I spent a few nights crying over this song. The rage it makes you feel is unbelievable

This song is so great. It really manages to capture the horror the dehumanisation of women is. How horrible it is to be viewed as an object as if we don't have thoughts, especially when you're sexulised. It's disgusting, and this song truly manages to capture that.

This song is talking about how men view women as NOT human. And they feel entitled to taking what they want from us. This has nothing to do with body image. And how they do not trust women with their own autonomy

She's definitely the like...othee side of the Coin of tailor swift. Tailor's calling out is loud and mocking , while Sofia's calling out is more of just a raw exposing of the maggot-filled rot and horror of the issue. None is better than the other , they're both peak.

@@JohnnyFoxtrotshow If you would like to continue your support of women (we appreciate you doing emotional labor to learn ❤) then might I suggest the woman anthem of the last year: Paris Paloma - labour. A song that definitely touches deep for many of us, echoing what we know our mothers and grandmothers and their grandmothers and so on have endured throughout time as invisible labor kept financially hostage right up until just the 70s. I was absolutely raised to believe that women are only here for their husbands and we have no other purpose than to bear children and keep him happy in my religious upbringing. Women as a whole are waking up to the reality that more conservative/traditional relationships only benefit the man and we abandon our own careers and dreams to make sure he can accomplish his, and this song reflects that.

First time watcher. Thank you for sharing from your perspective! Hmm. IDK about opposite of swift, but maybe moreso Sofia is conveying these issues in a less "commercially-friendly" way, a more raw way, not avoiding the grime. Same root messages, just different ways. It's a good title to get people to click tho!

It's quite magnificent that she actually opened for Taylor Swift. I think that makes me like my comparison that much more. Because two completely different individuals who are creating music with the same "overall" messages but delivered in "opposite ways" at the same concert is exactly what I like to see! I LOVE that TS had her open for her. I didn't know that until someone shared that with me in the comments. I appreciate you for sharing your thoughts and for viewing my video 🙏💜🧸

I watched Blink Twice recently and I think this song and that movie were made for each other. Even though this is heavily about SA and the acceptedness of it, it is also about the societal silencing of women. The visuals juxtaposed the lyrics really signify the feeling us women feel where nothing we say gets heard and its like we go our whole lives choking and grasping for a breath just to speak out and be heard. A good example of this would be what happened to the more than 500 gymnasts that came forward against gym owners, coaches, and staff working for gymnastics programs including USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University. Hundreds of them sued USAG, MSU, and the United States Olympic Committee. I seen a clip at one of the hearings where one of the victims said all of this could have been avoided if just ONE person would've listened 😢 And I'm sure there was a level of privacy that they wanted to have for the victims but it even feels like that court case was hushed. I didn't know about it until watching Simone Biles docuseries that came out this year.

The music and the video are compelling, as are the lyrics, but I suspect that the people who the message is aimed at would never understand that message or realise it applies to them. Bizarrely, one of the first things I thought of was an exceptionally bleak Jessica Rabbit!!!

@@JohnnyFoxtrotshow OMG! Yes you do, if you don't already know her. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame only last year but I have loved her since I was 5 years old (I'm 51 now). She started having number one hits from the age of 19 and they were so different, so uncomparable to anything that came before. She loved to dance in her performances too so the head mics that all performers use these days were originally developed by her for her own live stuff. She inspired so many people. She's had a recent surge of interest in her work due to one of her old hits being central to the latest series of 'Stranger Things' ('Running up that Hill'). She wrote on so many different and sometimes controversial topics and her lyrics are also very poetic. Her varied use of instruments and fearlessness about sounding 'weird' take her to another musical level. Deep dive into her work...every single track will be different and produce a different emotional response.

Some people have more insight at 19 than others have at 45. Her themes are not original because they tell a timeless tale of the feminine experience which sadly doesn’t change that much from generation to generation (with regard to women being seen as objects and subjected to abuse). But her songwriting, to me, is captivating and original. The way she performs them is powerful. If you don’t agree, that’s fine, maybe you aren’t the intended audience, maybe you aren’t a raped and abused woman for whom she’s speaking/singing for. You are totally entitled to like who you like. I’m not terribly impressed by the names you’ve listed. They are good but to me they don’t speak to my heart. I am deeply involved in music so what was rude is your assumption about me personally. You can disagree but you’ve been snarky and rude and critical of me as a person simply because you disagree with my taste in music. What a sad world it would be if we all liked the same stuff. By the way, Kate was big in the 70s, and 80s and 90s and is deservedly being rediscovered by a new generation. Countless female artists count her as their inspiration. Having grown up with Kate, Queen, Prince and other icons, modern pop music often fails to impress. That’s largely down to the pap that is heavily promoted. Which is why I delight in finding independent or new song writers on the internet who are self-promoting. I didn’t know she was 19, if so I’m even more impressed. And look forward to her future creations.

Ooh, great line- "uncomfortable to be in the room." Sofia Isella brings to light that women sometimes feel that way. In a broader sense, any person that is looked on as being beneath others- especially from the misogynistic male perspective. My wife and I do try to run our household on even terms- no task is regarded as being woman's or men's work specifically. 🧸

I think she’s saying the opposite. Women don’t want to be appreciated for what they do for men, but rather who they are as people. They want to be seen as people outside of the titles that are given to them in relation to what they do for men… “wife, whor3, mistress, maid, mother” “art you can f***”. The doll people all leave to escape only being seen as the roles they play for men.

Thoughts about the "like butter" lyric Butter is mass-consumed and mass-produced, so much it is ordinary, right? This might mean to say the action of taking is easy/smooth like how butter is easy/smooth, and this action is mass-practiced and enjoyed by those that take like it is ordinary, like they have the right to "butter." (most butter is also produced through the use of cow's milk, the process involves sa of the cow - which is NOT the same thing as it is with humans, but similar enough to be symbolism - and negligence of the produced calf, like how industries that profit from sa have no regard for the sacrificial calf/the women and girls) Also, butter is spread with a knife. An action "with a knife" out of context of butter could mean "by threat, by force." Butter knives are dull, so one could say it's not a big deal or the butter, which symbolizes the woman this time, is overreacting, like they say in the real world outside of this song. Might be over-speculation, but these are my ideas about this lyric. I would also like to acknowledge that when I say "women and girls" I am excluding many others who experience these traumatic events. My heart goes out to them just as much and they must be helped too. The song being about feminine people in particular is why I mentioned women and girls. No matter which label an individual fits under, or no label, efforts to stop these events will help us all. It starts with acknowledging that it is an issue, acknowledging the damage and giving power to victims, and I think that is what this song can do.

Hey, you may not see this but I really liked your analysis of this song and I appreciate your thoughtfulness when it comes to sharing your opinions from a guy's perspective. I saw someone else comment something similar here but I think it’s really interesting that we interpret parts of the song so differently. To me, “a woman who doesn’t want it is much hotter than one who does” is a really blunt reference to assault, and to the violence that society allows some men to foster (i.e. through the increasing popularity of aggressive, hardcore p**n). I also think my interpretation varies from your closing statement where you said (paraphrasing) “most women just really want somebody who appreciates them and recognises what they do for that person”. I think this might be the kind of interpretation the song is standing up to though, with the repetition of “wife, whore, mistress, maid, mother”. We don’t necessarily want to be recognised for our contributions to these roles (i.e. my husband is a doctor and I am his wife), but rather for the people we are (I am more than a wife, and more than a mother). Overall I really enjoyed this analysis and will be subscribing to see more!

Thank you so much for sharing! I really enjoyed reading your comment. I appreciate you and the others that have brought additional perspective to my knowledge. I will never tell anyone they are wrong for what they "interpret" or "feel" from any Music or any other Art. To me that is the overall point of Art, to have the discussions and to provoke thought. That is one of the many reasons I've enjoyed Sofia. Not only do I get to listen to different perspectives than my own, I also get to learn throughout the process. I think it's important for Men to listen (learn & apply) Women's perspectives in All matters. I love that Artists like Sofia push the discussion from getting swept under the rug as it has for far too long. I Appreciate You! 🙏💜🧸

I don’t feel like the line „a woman who doesn’t want it is much hotter than one who does“ is about a long term relationship and appreciation at all. I think it’s about random men wanting random women not caring about what these women want or don’t. I don’t say all men are like that but the song captures that many men find certain women attractive and just try to go for them even after the women signal they aren’t interested. I dare to say every woman knows what I’m talking about.
