The Oppression and Violence Against LGBTI People in Kenya: A Discussion with OPAL

Today, we had the honour of hosting Queer Kenyas to discuss their experiences as members of the LGBT community in a country that is known for its homophobia. Despite the harmful and false belief that lesbians in Kenya are not subject to persecution, the truth is that they face just as much danger as gay men. In fact, there have been numerous cases of violence and even murder against lesbian individuals in Kenya, yet this information is often overlooked and kept within the country.
