I really enjoy the manner in which she connects points made to other's point of view, that makes the discussion flows with coherency and generates immense interest of the viewer. I find myself genuinely laughing, agreeing or disagreeing and sometime even quite emotional based on the topic being discussed. This happens principally due to the topic brought by Edith Kimani, the questions she poses and her apt timed flow. Thanks Edith Kimani, well done ! @joemcfatter11709 ай бұрын
Recently discovered this great, highly informative channel. I have viewed several of Edith's productions and she is so world-class, and no doubt has a terrific future! I am an old white man from Texas, who has six African American god-children I helped raise. One is gay, one is lesbian, and both came out to us when in teens. My gay son wrote me a beautiful letter when I turned 70, thanking me for being accepting when he came out, and telling him he was perfect just the way he was. He is now doing well in real estate sales in LA, and my lesbian daughter is an attorney (barrister). Here in the US we continue to struggle with this topic, and the grip of the so-called conservative "Christians" is powerful because it is all about money and controlling culture. Some of these same "evangelist" ("evilgelicals" as I say) also have strongly influenced politics in countries like Uganda, on this topic and anti-LGBTQ laws. So much of Africa is still mentally saddled with Eurocentric ideas of morality that have long become outdated in the West, but obviously this is changing due to the yearning of the younger generations and their becoming both more Afrocentric and global. Is is sad to still see so much ignorance and hypocrisy, however. Many gays hide in the churches and and I am sure even some of the "pastors" (and Imams) are gay behind closed doors. It's all about "appearances." Like one of the lesbians in this panel discussion said, more or less, is that homosexuality has existed since time immemorial. It is as natural as our faces. It wasn't until Euros came to enslave and control Africans and impose the notion of "sin" (a false concept) that Africans lost touch with the "gayness" within their cultures. There is ample research on this, and publications on the web if one searches. Being gay is about the creative, the arts, music, and the spiritual. As Malidoma Some of the Dagara tribe teaches, gays in his community were the "gatekeepers" to the spirit world and facilitated the rites of initiation for boys (maybe girls also, idk). So much sexuality that was practiced within African cultures was deemed evil and sinful by the white tricksters. Not just gay, but anything to do with sex that was not "procreative" within a marriage. I hope Africa can evolve more quickly than we did in the USA and West. To suppress LGBTQ is like cutting off the nose to spite the face. Gays are the source of creative change and invention for a society, and by oppressing them the governments and churches do so only to maintain control, and by doing so are constricting the positive growth of their cultures in all ways.

This whole conversation is just a touch of many things.I have nothing against lgbtq people. I have a problem that the only way to identify themselves is mentioning their sexual preferences or whatever they call it.Again why is it wrong if someone told them to dress in a particular way while going to particular places.Not only in church there are many places where we have to dress in a certain dress code and it applies to all nothing to do with their sexuality. Kindly explain to me what rights they want except marriage?I worked in a kenya company where we had more than 6 gays that were known .By the way, they were so good that they got promotions all the time. In kenya, whether you are straight or not, a public display of affection will always make people stare and uncomfortable. So when lgbtq people do that in public and the crowd reacts they tbink its coz of who they are but thats not true.When they go for demonstration and get arrested thats happens to anyone who tries to push boundaries in kenya...may it be a doctor fighting for his rights or another politician who rubs government the wrong way.About the chiloba guy who they claim was a hate crime thats FALSE.HE WAS KILLED BY HIS PARTNER OUT OF JEALOUSY BECAUSE HE WAS CHEATING. Let's not be victims. Most people have no hate for lgbtq but rather find it hard to accept just because it's a been unspoken for a long time.change is hard.

One thing about Kenya even with these pseudo-conservative politicians and citizens is that LGBTQIA community is somewhat free than all other E.A. countries. They're on social-media, they're on the streets, in the clubs and in very few instances are they persecuted. They're suppressed constitutionally which is the problem they're trying to address. This LGBTQIA issue isn't a simple one, not even for us who're straight and liberal minded. I personally would like to understand whether it's can be scientifically proven(I haven't done my research) or is it a form of traumatic response maybe because of sexual abuse or other unknown factors. It's a very very complicated topic.
@mwaurangere4331 Жыл бұрын
even one is too many. lgbtq+ are people with natural variations in sexuality, persecuted by the largest group cis straight people for all kinds of reasons. they're like anyone else, some with histories of abuse (just like cis-het people), some without. do you have to prove your straightness to gay people? some people don't feel or understand heterosexual attraction but no one doubts it exists. People know they are being killed and they still choose to be themselves, what more proof do you need that they are real and authentic.

The average age in Kenya is roughly 19 years old and a significant portion of the younger generation don't engage in homophobia. The discrimination comes from the older generation, the boomers and the Gen Xrs who are too stuck in their ways and unfortunately, they occupy all positions of power. The advantage that Kenya has is that these politicians are ageing and the cycle of life will eventually clear them from their positions and the new generation will inevitably take over.

I wonder if this narrative will succeed in Africa. Don't worry Ugandans have already started. It will spread all around Africa. Only South Africa will find itself behind because they are mixed with whites. For me as a Ugandan no one who is homosexual should move close to me otherwise I'll make you to lick your anus in front of your parents.

@@DWThe77Percent If so why is polygamy love criminalised in Germany? Germany is not seeking to trade with Kenya but to push social cultural colonisation of Kenyans. China want to trade let us trade with China. This is a German Government sponsored media station which has no VOTE OF FRANCHISE to determine the laws made in Kenya. Nobody in Kenya need DW approval to make any law.The Kenyan lot who want to copy and paste western everything can be given a VISA to go live in Germany. Why is DW not protesting or stop trading with Japanese/Chinese/Russian/ Qatar/Saudia anti gay laws ? Why are you ambassadors very silient in these countries?

its a wonder how people practicing or identifying as LGBTQ Wharever are so eloquent, well spoken and intelligent yet fail to crasp a simple natural knowledge of nature. i have never seen a kienyeji identifying as this community. sometimes i think this guys are trained or guys from majuu get shipped to this country to advocate and propagate this agenda. and again, whats up we the nose rings? whatever this community is up to, with or without morality, it doesnt look good. these people need help.

@@nyalih929 help me understand. am asking a honest and sincere question. ata sjui niulize aje? like what usually is the fear or the whole issue about? is it that the community suppresses you guys, limiting you to practice your new found lifestyle or is it hostility now that you have a different lifestyle, or have I gotten everything wrong about you guys? because there's a force you come with and I ask myself, its either this people are being harrassed in some way that makes them make decisions that seem extreme and unnatural or, you're just being rebellious. We should never allow such in our country. It's so UnAfrican Kenya should criminalize it just like Uganda

There is absolutely nothing "unafrican" about the LGBTQ+ queer community. Just because people love who they love, doesn't been they're any less African.

@@DWThe77PercentAs a Kenyan traditionally Kenyan tribes such as mine always shunned and never tolerated homosexuality without exception centuries before colonisation, with punishments such as banishment or death. One can see the perspective that it’s UnAfrican but another can also argue some cultural aspects must be left behind but that is up to the people of Kenya to decide.
@zack7438 Жыл бұрын
@@number1kenyan Christianity is Un-African too, and so is the English you speak and the clothes you wear. Historical accounts show that there were same sex relationships across several African tribes long before the English came and criminalised it. In fact, had England amended their same-sex laws before colonising Kenya, there's every chance that same-sex marriage would be accepted in our society.
@number1kenyan Жыл бұрын
@@zack7438 My brother, even before christianity homosexuality was shunned and outlawed. I’ll be honest, i’m talking about Kenyan tribes specifically and their cultures which I have studied. Sure the english criminalised it but even before the English and christianity it was criminalised too. I have no idea about these other african cultures you’re talking about but they’re surely not Kenyan. Let me end by stating i myself am not homophobic and do not care what one does with their partner, i just hate when individuals lie about certain things being accepted before colonisation when they were in fact weren’t. And bringing up clothing and christianity is pure whataboutism so please focus on the topic at hand but if you say my usage of English is unAfrican then we can converse in Swahili if that’s what you prefer
