The cost actually goes down when a brand can purchase large quantities of supplies to formulate their line. think of it like bulk shopping verse going and buying small items. The unit price drops the larger the bulk they are able to buy from their venders. In turn lowering the cost it takes to make the product and hopefully keeping the cost of the product itself at a lower price point as it should be 😊

Wrong. Estee Lauder bought large shares of the company long before Brandon died. He wanted to expand his business, but things got awry as disagreements arise between them, plus he got untreated mental health problem leading to his (mysterious) death. Bottom line, he invited the big corporate in the first place, refusing to get treatment leading him to get fired as CEO (but he remains the co-founder). It’s a sad thing that he died, but I won’t see it as a big conspiracy theory. It’s just business, nothing personal.

I’ve used their hyalauranic acid, azaleic acid, vit c powder, resveratrol, squalene, alpha arbutin, and naicinimide. I like all of the products. I hope their price point stays reasonable. If it did change a little, I haven’t noticed. You get free shopping with a $25 order too. You really can’t beat the prices. Edit: my purchases from 7/18 have the same prices as today.

The ordinary's creator was the definition of a business genius. The things he posted on social media were not per se "socially conscious" and before his death there were some frightening things in videos which hinted at some serious emotional issues, but down deep he was a good person who did so much for beauty, I think he deserved people to stand up and say hey, your not acting safe and you may not like us for a while but we don't want to see you seriously hurt. I don't know mental health laws in Canada but in the US if someone is suddenly acting as a threat to themselves and there are witnesses they can be temporarily hospitalized to at least stabilize any self harm. I think this guy deserved that, and he had the wrong type of people around him. I truly believe money can harm people by surrounding them with yes-men and women who just want to use said person.

He was hospitalized in London for a while, but he wasn't on good terms with his family, so he didn't have anyone close to care for him. I was following Brandon since before his breakdown and I watched the whole thing unraveling, wondering why half the people interacting with him online were cheering him on and the other half were getting into fights with him.. I was so worried about him, he was obviously unwell and needed help.

Re: Pricing I have been using The Ordinary literally since the beginning (I have order invoices from long ago). The prices have definitely not increased, not at all. I think perhaps where some may think there has been an increase, is they now have double sizes in numerous products (30ml to 60ml) so those are priced higher of course. However the double sized products are offered at a better value vs buying say two of the 30ml ones, if anything, that is a decrease in price then.

I have the Yes To Tomatoes mask you mentioned, and for being a product with Salicylic acid, it is totally NOT drying. I love the way my skin feels conditioned afterwards and not tight/dehydrated. I think it has allantoin and seaweed extracts in it, amongst other nice ingredients in the list, so I’m sure that’s what is helping. My skin always looks smoother and glows immediately after using it AND into the next day, so it’s def a keeper! This concludes my plug for the Yes To Tomatoes mask on a video about an Ordinary product 😆

Interesting. I've been struggling with a persistent break out on my jaw line/chin for months. I used this twice and it's about 80% gone. It's been less than a week. This is the only thing I changed. For me, it's worth the price. Although, I'd definitely prefer it cheaper!

@momoontour2736
@momoontour2736 5 жыл бұрын
Ciara Conover why does everyone think The Ordinary is cheap? It seems cheap at first but if you look closer at it you realize it is not that affordable. The reason behind that is that you buy all the actives that you want in your routine separate and if you want many actives the price you pay adds up pretty fast. You don’t buy just one product that has multiple actives in its formulation
@jasminebarnes108
@jasminebarnes108 5 жыл бұрын
Momo on Tour because it *is* cheap. You will find other serums that do the same thing for way more than The Ordinary products. Most people don’t use a lot of additives or don’t need them in the first place.
@nairabee245
@nairabee245 4 жыл бұрын
Momo on Tour yea that is cheap. Especially if you already have a good foundation of skincare that you like and works for you and all you need are a few additives. Mine are the chemical peel for chemical exfoliation, their vitamin c 23%, and their retinol. That’s three actives. As for my cleansers and moisturizers and oils, cera ve and shea butter works wonders for my skin. For all 3 of those potent/effective additives together is literally around $20. Do you know how much ONE vitamin C serum or ONE retinol or ONE chemical exfoliabt costs from other brands for the exact same effect?! Anywhere from $25-$90 PER bottle of around the same size. That’s why everyone thinks the ordinary is cheap. Because it is. No one needs to bombard their face with actives. It’s highly unrealistic that you’d ever combine so many *non-repetitive* additives that it would ever add up to any significant cost. Much less a cost that’s greater than other main competing brands or luxury Brands.

Thanks for the review. I know this comment is late, but 1.7 oz is equivalent to 48.2 grams, or 50.3 milliliters (ml). So, you should get at least several more uses out of the tube than the two you originally estimated. Thirty ml is the standard volume of a foundation, which is approximately equal to 1 oz.

Estee Lauder first bought into the Ordinary's parent company in June 2017. They removed Brandon as CEO when he announced that he was closing the company and showing other indications of mental illness months before his death. I think the price changes are probably related more to their relationship with Sephora, given that they used to sell most of their products directly and didn't have to share profits. Sephora has been promoting the Ordinary online since the beginning of their partnership, but it's not clear whether they share marketing costs.

Top tip I've heard of for dealing with any animal - exercise/play, feed, then train/socialise. Trying to get a kitten to be cool with cuddles and contact without biting without first draining their play desire is just fighting a losing battle. Everytime she bites you maybe try redirecting that energy to something she is allowed to bite and then when she is drained try rewarding contact time where she doesn't show play aggression on you with treats? I trained my cats to stand and walk backwards and to be happy on a harness doing this. Zak George might be worth a watch because even though his stuff is on dog training, the positive reinforcement technique/approach is the best (and most humane!) for pretty much any species and I picked up most of the tricks I use on my cats from him.

I do have mixed feelings about the advertising part. But watching this in 2022, I can say that the pricing for The Ordinary does not seem to be going up. In fact, their products, now directly available for purchase in India, are slightly cheaper than the western prices (although the difference is negligible). Earlier we had to pay exorbitant shipping costs. Something kind of sad tho is that I read Brandon Truaxe wanted India to be one of the biggest markets for his products and he couldn't see that happening in his lifetime. The world of skincare does owe a lot to him. A visionary, truly!

I am a The Ordinary customer for about an year. The prices are the same. I actually checked the prices on their website and they are the same now as the prices on my very first order on their website in 2018. Maybe the prices are higher if you buy the products from intermediary stores. In Europe the prices are the same.

Hi there! Just wanted to fill you in on a little bit. Estée Lauder only partakes in 23% of the company and prices have not increased one bit since then. They are a partnership. There are several news articles about it and it’s even on Deciem’s website. They’ve released larger bottles of the cult favorites which obviously would have to be a bit higher in price point due to size but still all super affordable ! :)

I haven't tried this mask, but have purchased the squalene cleanser, which is in the same packaging, and I had similar thoughts about how little product is actually in the container. I'll stick to my serums and will avoid products in that packaging from them in the future.

I've been using The Ordinary for about a year now and all of the products I use haven't gone up 🤷‍♀️ I do think that the mask is over priced for the amount, so I likely won't buy it. I only buy from Deciem's website or directly from their store

I put it on much thinner ... less product, no need to slather on thick. I felt no tinging whatsoever and I'm sensitive. It did dry and 'pull'. I used a hot washcloth to 'steam' my skin before and to remove the mask after 10 minutes. I'm 65 and have larger pores and when younger had very oily skin but now it's dryer and prone to wrinkles (imagine that! ha!)I like how the product works but will not buy again because of the plastic container. And OMG!! that KITTEN!

Yep, the prices have definitely changed. I bought quite a lot of ordinary products from Beauty Bay last year, but after that I just repurchased the zink serum from another website. I just took a look at my old purchases on Beauty Bay and the prices have definitely gone up.

I think that is an incredibly small amount of product for a face mask. Most all facemasks are around 4oz. I feel that the lowest amount should be 3.5oz. Hmmm obviously they put too many humectants, a little glycerin or a little squalane, but *some* blackheads should have come out. Phenoxyethenol makes my skin burn, and I can handle some pretty hardcore chemical exfoliants and at pretty high ingredients. It's supposed to be at 1% or lower in the US because it can release carcinogenic substances to inhale such as formaldehyde. Not my favorite preservative but I do love the Ordinary and everything the late founder stood by. Their products are clearing my girlfriends face tremendously and she's happy, so I'm happy. Their serums are great. But if she even mentions purchasing that mask *I* will make her one myself! Same active ingredients and in a much larger container lol. We just got a kitten a few days ago. When she scratches and bites aka plays too feisty we say "no" sternly. Wait until she's calmed down and then rub a stuffed animal toy on her belly for her to play with (if you immediately give her the toy she'll be trained to believe she's being awarded). Other "naughty" behaviours are supposed to get a water bottle squirt. We have one loaded and ready to go, but of course me being me, haven't had the heart to actually use it yet, lol. I ❤ the sweet story of how Bucket was rescued. Apparently kindness and a loving heart runs in both you and your brother. XOXO 🤗💋

Please don´t spray your cats with water bottles! Your gut feeling about this is right. It's really harsh and can lead to them being afraid of you or not trusting you anymore. Saying no sternly, as you do,or making a "hissing" noise is great and should be enough to show them that their behaviour is unwanted.

@@markhor468 Yes I believe you are right ❤. I read an article that said to do that.... I'm going to dump out that water bottle and put some aloe vera and rose water spray for my face instead! She's such a sweet little kitten. I 100% agree with you 🙌🥰. Thank you for saying that to me. Seriously.

I think your perception on phenoxyethanol in this product is wrong. Looking at the ingredient, the they use a broad spectrum preservatives that contain less than 1% or maybe 0.5% of phenoxyethanol. I think the burning might come from dimethyl isosorbide which further enhance the action and penetration of the salicylic acid and other actives in the mask. Just my two cents.
@laurapoljus248
@laurapoljus248 5 жыл бұрын
Do you know if this enhancer is on their salicylic serum? I noticed that the serum really burn me (especially when I apply it locally) while other products with the same 2% don't do that.
@emikaz9635
@emikaz9635 5 жыл бұрын
@@laurapoljus248 Yes the solution contain the penetration enhancer but i think the cause of burning might be from addtional surfactant which other brands don't normally use. Dimethyl isosorbide should not be blame because it is not an allergen, its just when combine with drying ingredient it could irritates the skin.

I´d really like to see you give your opinion on this mask after a using it a few times! Also, what do you mean by "kitty cat spa day"? Cats usually don´t even need baths because they are experts themselves and know how to take care of themselves, grooming-wise. I guess the best you could do would be to stay away with any products, maybe do a spa day for yourself and just brush yor cat. Getting used to being brushed at a young age would be really beneficial in a few different ways! Young cats (and older ones that are socialised) also really benefit from having a feline friend. And I almost forgot to say how adorable Bucket is!

Wow I'm watching this two years late. I just looked up the founder's death and am so shocked.. He passed away in the distillery district in Toronto in Jan. 2019, I have been living within 2-3km from distillery since I moved here in 2017, and I can see it through my window right now. I had no idea he was even from Toronto, though that explains the amount of Deciem stores here. RIP

1.7fl oz is 50ml, which equals 50 grams, not 30. From the looks of how much you appeared to use, I’d be willing to bet there are 7-8 uses or more in that tube, which makes the price point more reasonable.

I have been using one tube for months now which I’m about to finish so no it doesn’t have only 2 to 3 applications. You didn’t even cover your face properly while I cover my throat as well. All you are talking about is unchecked, unverifiable as you stated yourself, conspiracy theories. So your product review if that’s what it is, totally sucks. BTW amaaaazing product. It has helped with my acne, brightened up my tired old skin. I actually stopped having facials after it’s started it’s magic. But I’ve been using alpha arbutin, Niacinamide and glycolic acid as well so I think the combo has done wonders for my skin.
