That no trespassing sign is an occasion to contact the owner of the property about your intentions. You can make arrangements to travel the travel. I'm glad you made this video. You've documented that the trail is still well maintained in places.

Looking at wagon ruts may not in itself be exciting, but with the images you make in your mind, they can very much be exciting. It's not just the ruts, it's the history. It's the fact you are standing where people were traveling a couple hundred years ago. It's the fact you stare straight ahead and maybe you see the same thing they saw. It's maybe you can feel even the slightest bit of what they felt. Obviously not the hardship but maybe the weather you experienced is what they experienced and maybe based on that you can imagine some of the hardship even if you don't get to experience it. If it was really hot that day, maybe you can picture how they had to endure that heat in their wagon or on horses or walking as you walk back to your air conditioned car. You can maybe picture the ghosts of the past. To me, that is exciting. You can weave a whole narrative out of those little ruts in the ground.
@TravelwithaWiseguy2 жыл бұрын
Exactly 100%! I tried to imagine those things over and over again. You put it very well!

@@TravelwithaWiseguy Looking at the wagon ruts is almost like reading a book. Yeah, you're just staring at words and pages, no pictures, no movement, that in itself is boring but when you take those words on the page and weave a narrative in your mind then you see the people, you see the action, you interact with the characters, that is when the excitement begins.

I haven't spent $49 for a motel in a month of Sundays. My first visit to Kansas was in the late 90s, and I got a lot of the one finger, no not THAT finger, wave from locals. I didn't have a front plate on my California registered DeVille, and I guess I blended in, as for those of you not from Kansas, you don't need a front plate. I appreciate that you respect private property. As always, love your content and style

Thank you! This Oregon Trail trip certainly tested me on the private property part, as sometimes it wasn’t clear. But yeah if I see no trespassing I comply unless I get permission. I understand why they want that because I’ve been to so many places that were left with graffiti.

This brought back many fond memories. The wife and I have traveled these roads without knowing much of the history. The quick scene in Huntington really cracked us up. You go by a Pot Shop (Pot Leaf on building) and there was a sign in the window that read "Free Sniffs" LOL! Having lived in the Pendelton, OR area for quite a while we are aware of the Oregon Trail spots and enjoy any history lessons we can find. Both our ancestors were pioneers. This was a great episode for us through home town country. Thanks for the Adventure!
