Aloha folks, the objectives of this tridacnid clam work are broad, and encompass local and regional conservation, food production, ecotourism, export dollar earner and basic scientific research. Many clam shells are produced as a byproduct on these farms, and yes, the shells are sold to help offset operating costs.

Nah, these guys developed the technique on keeping them in captivity. They research aquaculture techniques and raise stuff for the aquarium trade. I bought my all my live sand and clean up crew from them. I could be wrong but I really don't think they are raising the clams just to get the shells.
