Are the spores harmed by passing through UV light?
@ipsfdotcom Жыл бұрын
Tom, the likely answer is Yes. The main purpose of UV sterilizers on marine aquariums is to kill microorganisms, and algal spores fall into that category. Unfortunately these sterilizers do not distinguish between harmful microorganisms and beneficial ones.

Ugh I have had issues with these. I lifted up a particularly bright ricordea and I had an amphipod that had fluorescence in his gut that was the same color as the ricordea! Time for a wrasse or two.

I am starting a new tank with dry rock and aragonite sand. At what stage do I add these? Directly after cycling or after some fish have been established?

Dang and I thought my bloom was bad
@ipsfdotcom4 жыл бұрын
The diatom bloom provides visual evidence that bacterial cycling is complete. The tank is now ready to be lightly stocked with diverse detritivores and algal grazing species such as beneficial worms, snails, Reef Amphipods and MiniStars. All are available at Indo-Pacific Sea Farms www.ipsf.com

Paira eat their child. How can we prevent it?
@geraldheslinga97824 жыл бұрын
Make certain that parent Amphipods have an ample food supply (Red and Green seaweed) to discourage eating their babies. Also you can use graded plastic screens (like window screens) to separate babies from parents.

What about fire worms I know the regular ones are good but what about fire worms.
@geraldheslinga97824 жыл бұрын
Fire Worms are not good for reef tanks. They are too aggressive toward tank mates and can be very painful if touched.

I placed an order for your amiphods about 2-3 months ago. I received 25 amphipods. I now have about 1,000 in there. These guys are potentially the best cuc members I have. They demolish all detritus, leftover fish/coral food, and algae. I see them come out in swarms after I feed. I’ll just watch a single amphipod steal one whole lps pellet. My tank is a young system and despite phosphate spikes, I haven’t experienced any algae at all. I think this is in large part to the amphipods. Every time I look in the tank I just see 20-30 or so grazing. They cover everything.

I had a puffer fish, and he finally stopped eating, and just wasted away and died, and a year later I saw a video on KZbin where a ichthyologist or fishkeeper in a public zoo took their puffer and used a dremel grinder to keep his beak in fettle. I wondered immediately if that was what was my fish's problem, because turning down food was not something I was used to seeing him do. If you have any ideas or opinions, I would like to hear them.

I had the most beautiful copperband butterfly fish and I didn't know how to care (feed) it properly, and it deteriorated and died. I won't ever keep reef fish unless I become a millionaire and can provide them a proper home.

(noobs here) last night I was fragging a torch coral that I just got from the stote, and let the glue dry, when I was about to put the coral back in tank, 4 of these crawl out of the coral, and 1 of them latch on my hand, I freak out, thought it was some kind of bristle worm, then throw all of them out. Thinking about dipping all of my corals. And then find I this video when looking for a video about copepods... Didn't know they are benificial to the tank

Do these eat the same food source as the blue linckia? Or do they eat different things?
@ipsfdotcom5 жыл бұрын
Aloha! The technical name for their food is epibenthic microflora. It consists largely of bacteria, bacterial films, settled microphytoplankton including diatoms, non-specific microalgal films, and microdetritus.

Problem is my sand/LR is devoid of fauna (macro) after having to eliminate dino/cyano and aptasia chemically. I want isopods/copepods/anthropods/polychraetic worms back! I have brown worms in my tank which hitchhiked on my live rock they have feathery appendages surrounding their mouth’s they are not bristle worms they have no spine they appear to consume brown diatom algae nobody can tell me what they are and some people say they look like they could become predatory if they become large and some people say they look perfectly harmless I’ve never had a creature defy me and it’s identification before and I really want to know what these things are
@creepy62084 жыл бұрын
Maybe they are peanut worms. They either burrow in the substrate or rock and eat organic debres. I have one myself. They are harmless. Look up some pictures of it, maybe it'll help.

I am on day ten In my brand new 63 gallon and my diatoms just kicked into bloom grew fast today I got worried but some of the more experienced people I have been talking to say this is normal finish your cycle now I wanted to do this proper but my friend who started his already went out and bought 2 clowns a yellow tang and a brittle star and installed them as a suprize birthday gift now I will have a spike due to these fish being in there but I am hoping this did not screw up my cycle too much the fish seem relaxed and okay I am just gonna feed what they can eat I am keeping an eye on perameters so far very little nitrites , nitrates zero and phosphate 1.0 I wanted to do the fish my way I did not make a fuss due to the fish were not cheap and it was a nice gesture I wanted cleaners before fish. By the sounds of it things are still good in my tank it will just need to stay the way it is as not to upset the cycle anymore the tank is big enough to handle this small bio load added and I will control feeding. Now with my bloom should I just get the cleaners? Because there will be no more fish added I want corals once the tank stabilizes.
@ipsfdotcom6 жыл бұрын
Your cycle is complete as evidenced by the diatom bloom. It is time to add a good cleanup crew and let the tank stabilize. No more fishes for now!
