Fascinating. This type of history could really use an even longer series of videos. Great stuff, thanks.

I love this kind of stuff. It's a shame that most of our history and culture gets swept under the rug and not given more attention.

The Ghetto was my favorite Band back in the Day. I believe I was only in 9th grade when I started following your band. Your rendition of Sparkling in the Sand was great. Seen you at Precita Park at the free concerts and at St Pauls dances were some of the spots. Seemed that all of the garages had bands playing in those days.

This actually goes back further to Tijuana and Javier Batiz in the late 50s. "Aficionados looking for the real roots of rock history in Mexico are increasingly finding Batiz and his blazing guitar at the source." LA Times - articles.latimes.com/2002/aug/10/entertainment/et-gurza10 Javier Batiz is credited as mentoring Santana. Santana talks about that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/onTHeaOnbbB_otE I know this because my dad would tell me stories of watching Santana jam with Javier Batiz in TJ in the late 50s early 60s.

Not related but apparently if you arent specifically born in MEXICO you can't enjoy Mexican culture. Yep you heard me right thats what those who believe in cultural appropriation think. P.s. i was born in Mexico, but i think its the dumbest thing ever that it needs to be a requirement

cultural appropriation isn't "enjoying a different culture". i listen to rancheras and banda and corridos and i'm not mexican, that would be cultural exchange.

i can enjoy a culture without offending anyone that is cultural exchange, not cultural appropriation. if i was to wear a traje zapoteco without knowing the context or meaning behind the clothing, it could definitely offend someone, especially because i am not Zapoteco, nor am I indigenous. some people just pick and choose things to wear, or ideas from cultures other than their own and use them for their advantage or because they like them and think they're pretty, but don't really care about the history behind them. a gringa wearing traje típico around mexico city would get compliments on her outfit, while a mujer indigena wearing her traje típico around mexico city would get stared at and probably treated as less than by the people around her.
