The ORIGIN of Sonic’s Powers Revealed! (Sonic Theory)

Oof. I’m not gonna lie, folks, this was exhausting. Pretty sure this will go down in history as my most expansive Sonic Theory. I touched on the games, comics, anime, the only thing I didn’t really reference was Boom. This was all, of course, in an effort to make my argument as airtight as possible. Big thanks to everyone for getting me past 200 subscribers! I never imagined this many people would care about what I had to say, so it warms my heart to see you all enjoy the content I make. Shadow couldve been created after the ancient Echidnas' Super Sonic prophecy, which would explain his spine shape and being built to handle Chaos energy. So he was modeled after Sonic before Sonic was even born, which is why they're so similar.

@@axl256gamesx7 he has the same eye shape as Super Sonic too, there was the artificial Chaos, the Snake head like Mystic Ruin, them from later games Gerald found the Gizoids the Nocturnus Echidnas made, it only makes sense that Gerald saw the mural of Super Sonic and based Shadow on that. Even during the final fight in SA2, when Shadow is getting tired but Sonic isn't, Shadow says "I think I found out what the Ultimate Lifeform is, it might be you!"

Okay, it kinda makes sense that Sonic was born from the chaos force. It explains his insane speed and how he can utilize the chaos emeralds. But I don't think he's "the chosen one". Instead, I actually think he's the guardian of the chaos emeralds. I mean, since the very first game he's been collecting the Chaos Emeralds and he used them to stop baddies when he needed to, and it would explain the mural in the Hidden Palace. There's also the fact (at least I think so anyways) that Sonic's dimension is an alternate version of Blaze's dimension. Blaze is the guardian of the Sol emeralds of her dimension, so wouldn't it make sense Sonic would be the guardian of his dimension's emeralds? But unlike Blaze, he doesn't actually know he is the guardian of the Emeralds, Sonic is just trying to do the right thing but he's naturally attracted to the Emeralds because he is connected to them as their guardian. He is also the one person that manages to "reactivate" the emeralds when they're out of juice like in Adventure 1 and Unleashed. And although it's not canon, he manages to transform the Chaos Emeralds into the super emeralds in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. I feel like that feat alone seals the deal. I hope this is true. Even if it isn't, I'm definitely making it my personal headcanon. Also, great video!

Great theory on Sonic, I wish they would give him his hyper form back better than ever. Also sonic so get sum new powers too, something that rival Shadow powers. That give him big powerup and also I will be if his close hand to hand combat abilities tho. He should pull sum punches more often, I know he's a kicker fighting style, but he should definitely should do sum punches more often tho.

Him being a guardian would explain shadow's likeness to sonic. The mural depicting sonic would prophesied a guardian of the chaos emeralds and the only people who would know about it were the ancient echidna including tikal. Which would mean doctor gerald would have found the needed information to creating the perfect ultimate lifeform who would have complete control of chaos because at first he thought it was a giant lizard (which kind of looks like chaos I guess). Sonic being a guardian would also give him a connection to Chaos as many fans connected already with the eyes being green.

I believe that when Shadow tells Sonic that he may be the Ulitmate Lifeform, he's referring to the fact that Shadow is based off of Super Sonic. (This is why he only mentions it when they are in their Super-Forms.)

My theory is somewhat similar. Sonic always was able to have that speed of his, however it wasn't what it is now. Sonic also didn't have a connection to Chaos energy to start with, but using so many Power Rings and collecting 6 of the 7 Emeralds did something to him. He eventually collected all 7 Chaos Emeralds, but to no avail. When the Death Egg exploded, that when the Emeralds reacted to Sonic's "Wish" which turned him into his Super State for the first time. It also gave him a minor connection to the Chaos Force, which boosted his speed when he reverted to his regular self. Also taken from the Archie Comics, every time Sonic depowers from his Super State, he's always just a little bit stronger. This resulted in his fur changing a darker blue every time, and his speed was getting cranked up. When he went into his Hyper form, the Chaos Emeralds didn't go back to how they were. Instead, Sonic was hit with such a MASSIVE amount of Chaos Energy that resulted in his eyes turning a similar shade of green as the Master Emerald, and now Sonic has a decent connection to the Chaos Force. Not as strong as say, Knuckles or Shadow, but a connection nonetheless. However, his Hyper form could no longer be used when that happened. After defeating Chaos proper, Sonic could start reaching speeds of up to Mach 10 on his own accord. After defeating Solaris however, Sonic's power shot through the roof as he can now expel Chaos Energy as he's running full tilt, allowing him to breeze through enemies. Least, that's my theory

Also I think that as he had so much master emerald energy, as his eyes turned green, Sonic's power might have bounced back onto Tails and Knuckles which turned there eyes blue (Sonic's colour) as a result of him being with them 24/7.

In Sonic Unleashed, there’s another example of the Chaos Factor: after the werehog is launched into space, he’s save by s green orb that breaks his fall. Now you say that’s Chip/Light Gaia, but that’s never confirmed in the game.

But at the end of the game, we see chip create a green orb around sonic and send him back to the surface which confirms that chip created the orb to protect sonic before he lost his memory at the beginning of the game.

Something interesting that could make an interesting connection between Sonic and Shadow is that the Biolizard in Sa2 has a modified combination of both Sonic's and Shadow's Jp voice actors. And its Roars are basically slowed down screams of each actor. (I heard about this from Ruby of Blue's video on Sa2's Story being the best)

ALSO the paper Rouge shows shadow details that the bio lizard has an organ that lets it use chaos control there could be some connection there as to how characters like shadow can use chaos control without an emerald.

Shadow doesn't have that attachment so it's still up to debate if he can do chaos control(teleportation and stopping time) without a chaos emerald.

In the movie, it was hinted at the Sonic's speed is some manifestation of Chaos Control. It explains why the Echidna kept trying to hunt him down as a child and why a single quill was able to power Robotnik's mechs.

I remember Eggman also claiming that Sonic was an embodiment of Chaos. (I think it was around the time he lost his mind in the Archie Comics) I always figured he had some special connection to chaos energy. He’s basically the only being who has a totally natural affluence to using the emeralds without any training or condition outside of himself. Aaaaaaand, because that has been my though, I never really questioned the powers movie Sonic has. I chalk it up to a more apparent showcasing of his “chaos factor.” It feels like the director is very familiar with Sonic lore and I even got Archie Comic vibes from the movie. If that was the movie’s intent, then I’m excited for this side of Sonic to be more explored.

@@rhyno39 Well tbh it shouldn't be a species specific thing to use the Chaos Energy. I think it severely limits tge usage of its utility. "Need a character that can use chaos energy? Just add another hedgehog!" It should be for anyone who has an inherent connection to Chaos Energy. Hedgehog or not. In terms of the gaming lore, the only main non robotic characters that have explanations for their use of the "Chaos Force" is Sonic, Knuckles and Shadow. Anyone else is just for gameplay like Tails for example. Why does he have a super form?(I rather call it a Chaos Form). Oh its because Sonic can do it and we need the player to feel accomplished when they play as Tails. Thats it. Silver doesnt really have a decent explanation either when I think about it lol. They really need to expand on the "Chaos Force" in this series its real intresting to me. What if they take the route that Chaos is *literally* Chaos (as in disorder). The goal of mastery is to tame chaos (Chaos Control wink wink) and tame it to the point were its more reliable to use. It becomes Stable Chaos. Fleetway Super Sonic had that similar idea going on taking a literal interpretation of Chaos Energy.

I have thought about it more since then and it doesn't seem to be just a species thing (or at least i don't want it to be) as knuckles can utilize the chaos force to an extent. A different theory I have is that everyone can make use it but some are much better at utilizing it than others. This imo, means that if a species has been able to access and control the chaos force, it gets passed down in their genetics. Hedgehogs already seem to be quite fluent in those abilities for some mysterious reason, and echidnas have been around the chaos emeralds for a long while. A fox like Tails however hasn't had much experience with chaos energy, nor (I'm assuming) his ancestors. I also agree on building the "Chaos lore" because chaos energy seems to be able to do everything for anything and I need answers as to why XD. Your version of it is probably my favorite :)

After reading the last issues of Sonic IDW that came out, I rewatched this theory about this origin of Sonic's Powers, and for me it seems very possible that Sonic chaos factor not only gave him the ally he needed to stop the Metal virus in the person of Silver, but that this chaos factor could also be the reason why he landed in the sol dimension, right in front of Blaze, the only person able to make him remember the memories he had lost, and send him back home in his dimension. The Chaos factor could not only be the reason why Sonic regained all his memories that easily, but it could also had ensured Sonic's friends victories against the apocalyptic crisis of the metal virus.

I think the reason is that he was connected to the chaos force is a good person. If you think about it, we have seen Sonic perform many Noble acts of kindness. Even though this isn't cannon, Sonic possibly could've ran away from Galems beams, but instead he stop to grab picachu or at least tried to. Mind you out everyone else in that scene, Sonic was the only one who looked back to try and save someone. Link didn't tryed save Zelda, Pit and Dark Pit didn't try to save Palutena. Kirby was over here just just flying through the sky, Snake tryed to hide in box and the list goes on and on. The only other person that I saw try to help was Bowser with the Pokemon trainer and Shulk trying to warn everyone of what was coming. So yeah, me personally, I think that Sonic is just a kind person and that he is made using the chaos force which your theory. Plus Sonic has resisted min so control before in Sonic and the dark brotherhood.

My theory is super basic and not as cool sounding but I'd like to think that certain creatures on Mobius are just born with natural super-powers, it's random kind of like quirks from MHA or something, hence why some characters have power and others don't, but presumably Sonic and his gang wouldn't be the only mobians to have powers like that, they're just the only ones we've seen so far 😊

But with shadows troubled past hes more dark than the original. Tails is able to fly because he met sonic and some chaos force rubbed off on him, It explains knuckles's strength aswell The master emerald chose him. And with that he had his powers chosen. Alright hear me out But what if JUST what if Sonic was made onboard the arc aswell? My reasoning to believe this is due to the fact shadow calls sonic the "Ultimate life form" Though i dont believe hes part black arm. I think hes part wisp, explaining his speed, his link to chaos force and his natural wisp speed makes sense of why hes able to run faster than an average hedgehog And it explains his strong connection to the wisps, no one else uses them So perhaps gerald in his younger days created sonic, with HyperGo-On energy, before sonic was sent into a coma for a while. Due to the overload in power that could have happened if the black comet had appeared, Once sonic was in the coma gerald teamed up with the black arms and created shadow Sonic cant get his memories back due to the fact its not just amnesia they were erased. Unlike shadows My reasoning for his memories being wiped is the chaos force, not wanting sonic to know his own origins.

You know...maybe the Phantom Menace analogy isn't so far off. It's later revealed that the reason the Force created a Chosen One was because the Sith had discovered how to use the Force to manipulate life, and Anakin was the Force basically hitting a panic button. What if Sonic is similar? Gerald Robotnik created Shadow, an artificial being, using the Chaos Force, and having a panic attack, the Chaos Force created Sonic as a reaction to balance things out.

Your theory is indeed ridiculous but that doesn't make it invalid. It's pretty clear that Sonic was intended to be a counterpoint to Shadow in-universe. Have you seen the Game Apologist's video on Hyper Sonic? This theory would certainly explain why Sonic seems to learn better control over the emeralds than anyone else (heck, in SA2 he uses that control over something that's not even an emerald).

The emerald was a fake, it resembles the chaos emeralds, but lacked the whole infinite energy universe warping power. People bring it up as a plot whole often enough that sonic definitely did not have a good opportunity to learn chaos control and that emerald is a fake and shouldn't give him the power to chaos control. Which begs the question did sonic always just have that power.

I've always sorta had this feeling they were building to this conclusion slowly but surely. In Sonic 1, we see (at the end) Sonic restore peace to Green Hills and such after attaining six of the seven emeralds. Sonic 2 has him learn the secrets of the emeralds to channel into a super form. In S3&K, not only is he prophesied in the Hidden Temple or whatever, but he's the key to the Super Emeralds; he basically shows Knuckles something that HE, the guardian of the emerald, never knew about, and opens his gullible heart. Speaking of opening hearts, in SA1 we see Sonic take on a literal enraged god and purge the hatred from him using the good Chaos energy. SA2 expands upon that as he takes on a man-made Chaos (assuming Gerald got the idea for a giant lizard and a hedgehog from the echidna murals that is) and with the assistance of another super powered ultimate lifeform project, he uses a power he originally attempted with a FAKE emerald to teleport an entire space colony with living beings inside safely to orbit. Each game he was getting stronger, more in tune with Chaos energy, becoming an ultimate lifeform of sorts... I believe this was the underlying narrative they kept subtly growing under our noses. Also, Sonic backwards is cinoS, which if you pronounce it with the C like the c in SONIC (something like kin-os), it sounds an awful lot like CHAOS. Maybe. Probably wrong about a few things. 3AM here, drunk and going on roughly 4 hours of sleep as is, but I saw this video and I had to put my crappy two cents into it. Good video, by the way. Kudos.

This theory actually makes a lot of sense. Rouge said in Sonic Adventure 2 that there were multiple tests in "Project Shadow" and none of them were found. This makes sense if sonic was never in stasis like shadow and just left the crash site. Plus sonic and shadow are both hedgehogs, Professor Gerald was the smartest man on earth and it makes sense he would experiment with hedgehogs, which were a naturally fast animal. Great video!

I mean... even taking those comics you used to come up this theory, in those same comics Sonic is born, not created. And in Sonic Chronicles it is said that Super Speed is a natural thing of hedgehogs. Also, aren’t we going to talk about Tails who battled and defeated Chaos 4 alone? He also helped Sonic to defeat Metal Overlord in Sonic Heroes. And both Burning Blaze and Super Sonic couldn’t defeat the Egg Wizard if it wasn’t for Marine ( a bit stupid though ). And in 06, Sonic was killed by Mephiles. To me, Sonic is born with that power. His speed may be something rare even among hedgehogs, but that’s natural. Even among humans there are cases of people having some qualities that surpass the overall standard. Same goes for his skills in using Chaos power. He started using the emeralds since Sonic 2, so he is just more experienced than Shadow and everyone else. Remember that Knuckles knocked the emeralds out of him ( it was explained that Sonic was inexperienced and needed concentration, so his punch broke apart that concentration ). If he was in some way connected in a special way to the Chaos Energy, it would have been natural for him to stay in his Super Form. But it wasn’t at first. As for the lyrics “You’re losing your speed, you’re losing your flow! But inside me there’s a power you’ll never know”, well. It’s a good theory. But, Dark Gaia’s Power depleted the Chaos Emeralds, meaning that it would have depleted Sonic’s chaos energy if he was the wielder of such power. Even in the end of the Battle, Super Sonic fell unconscious, meaning that Dark Gaia’s energy indeed depletes the Chaos Energy’s Power ( Something that didn’t happen when he was battling her/him in base form ). So, his Werehog form is indeed due to Dark Gaia’s energy. After all, we all saw that it mutates creatures such as the Dark Phoenix and the Dark Moray. Probably what the song was talking about was his Unbreakable Willpower. Sonic already battled the Ifrit. So, it’s only natural. As for the argument of “who’s stronger between a God Genie and the emotions of a Hedgehog” well, the emotions of course. The 7 World Rings are based on emotions, that’s the whole point. Also, Erazor Djinn had to kill the collector of the 7 rings to become Alf Layla Wa Layla ( 1001 Nights in Arabic ) and rule over the Arabian Nights, but he killed Shara. Not sonic. Hence, the ritual was incomplete and he couldn’t possess all of the World rings by the laws of the creator of the Arabian Nights. In the end, prodigies exist. Look at Dragon Ball for example. Broly is the legendary Super Saiyan. The strongest of his race and with the most hidden potential. Sonic is probably a prodigy too. To me, they should introduce his parents or siblings one day, so that they give us some insight in his back story.

My head canon for Sonics backstory is that he was a second attempt to make shadow but slightly better. An often overlooked fact about project shadow is that it seems to have started with chaos from sa1 as the base. First there was the artificial chaos which were just robot versions of chaos. Next there was the biolizard that is similar to perfect chaos and even makes the same cry as perfect chaos at the beginning of its boss battle. And then there’s shadow who just like chaos can use the chaos emeralds power. At the time of sa2 the only characters who could use the chaos emeralds were sonic, shadow, and chaos. This would be an explanation as to why sonic and shadow have chaos powers as they would have the dna from chaos who himself was a mutated Chao that got turned into a water monster by the chaos emeralds. The idea that sonic was a second shadow also explains why they look so similar and both are conveniently hedgehogs. It’s already speculated that the reason Gerald made shadow a hedgehog was because of the mural so it would also make sense because sonic and shadow would be somewhat related. Sonic could have never been awakened on the ark so that could be why he has no memory. I believe it would go something like this. When Maria launched shadow to earth it also launched a freshly created sonic that had yet to be truly introduced to the world. Once he lands on earth I believe he wouldn’t be found by gun because as far as they are aware they have captured the ultimate life form. Sonic probably awoke some time later but I believe that sonic would be a child. Why? Because at this point in SA2 the classic games were still part of the timeline which they still kind of are but I don’t know what the classic games are considered to be now a days. Any way sonic appears much younger in the classic games so one of the changes made to the shadow 2.0 or sonic is his ability to age. When he awoke he would have been a child and likely would not remember awakening in a crashed escape pod. Then he would go on and eventually start the events of sonic 1. This head canon explains a lot of the dialogue and plot points in sa2 but I don’t think this would be the canon of today. I only believe this was the original way the story was going to go after sa2. Sonic hero’s and onward dropped a lot of plot points that were unfinished in sa2 and even brought shadow back from the dead. Still elements of this could become canon or even the whole this idk. Actually the hieroglyph in the ruins foretold Sonic's first transformation into Super Sonic to fight Eggman. Gerald Robotnik had studied the ruins and based Shadow off of the hieroglyph as he saw that as the answer to creating the Ultimate Lifeform. Which means that Sonic is not just the Chosen One he inspired the creation of Shadow.

Honestly, at this point, I could subscribe to any of these theories. Sonic being created alongside Shadow on the Ark, Sonic just kinda coming into existence due to the Chaos Force or whatever, Sonic being from an alien species of powerful chaos hedgehogs, all of these sound good to me. I kinda had the same theory about this, just not from the same sources, and i never heard of the Chaos Factor. However, my main thought was based on a line of Sonic X, saying that during the ARK attack, not one, but two capsuled were launched. I know this is not canon material, but it made me think that it could have been Sonic. Else this, or Eggman (or maybe the GUN actually) could have remake the Shadow Project for their own reasons. I think the problem of the origin of Sonic has to be linked to the lack of Eggman's origin. They fight against each other for long, but they can work together without real troubles, and in every sources they appear, they always have some kind of respect to the other, as if they use to be close. That could make a good story for a game, a prequel actually, but so far, your theeory is good, but the sources used are a bit... streched? is that the word? (sorry, i'm not a antive english speaker :p). But yeah, it's a good theory, there is obviously a link between Sonic and Shadow that we don't know yet (and probably one with Silver, well, could have at least.

Vanguard Chicken I always assumed that second capsule was Emerl because we find out in Sonic Battle that Gerald worked on him as well. Regarding Silver’s connection, I still hold to the idea that he’s a descendant of Shadow. I know Iizuka “confirmed” that he wasn’t, but he also said that the moon is just on it’s good side whenever we see it even through that’s definitely not how that works, and that we wouldn’t see classic Sonic again after Generations. i had a very similar theory not too long ago, but instead of being created by the Chaos Force i believe he was created by Argus, or possibly IS Argus. Prepare for a wall of text: 1: 4000 years ago the Chaos event occurred, leaving the world in the hands of the nocturnus clan. 2: The Babylonions were an incredibly advanced alien race that crash landed on earth sometime at least ~1000+ years ago and were worshiped as gods. 3: After taking over most of the world Argus arrived and whisked the entirety of the Nocturnus into the Twilight Cage. 4: Many different ancient areas in the Sonic world have bird like monuments, many of which could be the Babylonians themselves but others show a 4 legged eagle / Griffin like creature that doesn't resemble them whatsoever outside of both being "birds". If we say that the Babylons existed during the reign of the Nocturnus then it’s likely that they wouldn't take too kindly to Ix trying to concur them. They may be strong with their advanced technology but Ix had the Chaos Emeralds, a huge army of Gizoids, and the ultimate Gizoid Emerl on his side as well as possibly the Phantom Ruby so there aren’t too many things that could bring him down. With their advanced technology they may be able to call on their god to give them a helping hand as a last resort, knowing that they stood no chance in a war with their small numbers. Argus could be the the god of the Babylonians who takes the form of a Griffin to communicate with them as it is still bird like but different enough to distinguish, similar to how in the real world gods sometimes come as humans with animal faces or whatever. If Argus came down to stop the Nocturnus, maybe he saw how chaotic this world was and periodically comes down to stop any out of control chaos. We already have the God of Destruction in Chaos so maybe he could be a sort of counterpart like a God of Life of a God of Order. Maybe he gave the ancient monks mentioned in 06 the Sceptre of Darkness that helped take down Solaris who was an out of control god, Soleana does have the Eagle as their national symbol and nearby is where we see the statues of the 4 legged eagle. If we really run with this then Sonic was born to completely unknown means somewhere on Christmas Island which is a place shrouded in mystery and is described as "a strange world different from our world" by the developers. He is way more powerful than he has any right to be, seriously, he is able to match blows with the Ultimate Lifeform and beat an ancient guardian empowered by the most powerful gem on the planet. He is a chosen one written about in legend and has single handedly saved the world hundreds of times over. My theory is that after seeing how chaotic Earth is, Argus either decided to create a mortal with a fraction of his power or possibly even reincarnate himself as a mortal to work on keeping the peace in the physical world more effectively then he could by simply banishing people he deemed a threat.

The 'Chaos Factor' is actually a common power in Comics and a few games. I forget what the power is called so I'm going to be reffering to it as 'Unaware Odds Manipulation" or UOM for short. There is a hero in the Marvel Universe that has this power but it's only affective so long as they remain oblivious to them even having this power. Big Boss (Naked Snake) (and I aswell as several others think that only Solid Snake [David] inherited it from B.B while Liquid and Solidus did not) from the Metal Gear series is also thought to possess this power, as there are MANY times the odds were so stacked against him yet he pulls off a win.(or in some cases pulls off completly impossible stunts, like lifting The Cocoon, a several hundred ton tank with hydraulics trying to crush him, he Shoulder Presses that like A BOSS...Pun intended) So I think you may be onto something with Sonic and 'Chaos Factor' if it actually works like UOM that would explain the no win scenarios Sonic finds himself in and still pulling off a win.

That line Shadow said in sa2 always got to me for some reason. I actually only found out about it when I went back to play the game again and purposely was trying to see if they would say anything different as time progressed in the final battle. It shocked me and I remember not hearing shadow say that before when I first finished the game, so I figured it was time based. An awesome fact to mention was when Sonic faced off with infinite a second time in forces- He states that he "becomes more powerful every second." A lot of research I've seen actually points to this statement as possible truth. I also saw where he has a possible sense ability much like Spiderman. It's in a video that shows he sneezes before danger confronts him. I always thought he was just rubbing his nose all the time because it was a taunt or something to his enemies, but turns out he probably sneezed before trouble reared its head. I think the video is called sonics hidden ability. You can actually see what looks like sonic sneezing in a cutscene from the opening of sonic CD, its when he stops running to look up in the sky, but it's a split second and is easily overlooked. Also I have seen theories where shadow looks like sonic due to him being designed after ancient images of super sonic on ruin walls. I think it would make sense because shadow's quills are pointed upward and sonic's quills do the same when he transforms into super sonic. That would explain why "the ultimate life form" was designed by black doom and gerald to look like a hedgehog and not some kind of lizard/ black arms alien thing. In this videos theory though it looks like sonic might actually be designed after shadow's image. Looks like it could go either way. Also notable I found it interesting how all the characters learn abilities from one another. For example Amy became faster following after sonic. Sonic learned chaos control watching shadow use it. Tails taught sonic to spindash. I honestly wonder if shadow learned how to transform into super form by copying sonic. Now hear me out this is just my theory but shadow taught sonic how to use chaos control to teleport. Sonic had used the chaos emeralds in the past before to super transform before learning chaos control from shadow. So in a way I feel like he taught shadow how to tranform using the emeralds. I always thought the characters learning different powers from one another was a cool concept imo. Another thing that gets to me is Sonic's dark spine form where it actually looks like he is wearing something similar to Shadows inhibitor rings... The mystery continues.💫

Hmmm sounds similar to some of my head cannon theories. I don’t know anything about the Archie Comics, but I do know the Sonic cartoons, and the game stories. My observations are that Sonic enjoys sleeping out in the sun, eats enormous quantities of food, and seems to fight better when people are cheering for him. Conclusion, Sonic absorbs energy from all forms of power, including from magic, the sun, Chaos energy, and even people’s thoughts and emotions. ( I believe that the movie shows he got power when Tom affirmed their friendship. ) Also in game cannon we’ve seen a water spirit (chaos) a spirit of Darkness, and light (dark and light Gaia) The Spirits of Chaos; fire, stone, air, water life, light and darkness are within the seven Chaos emeralds. Sonic is called the Knight of the Wind, so he is aligned to the chaos spirit of Air, he is also aligned to the positive chaos energies. He can use dark Chaos energies too, but they have an effect on him, (See Sonic and the Secrete Rings, Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic X (battle with Black Narcissus)) as to Why the Spirit of Air gave Sonic this Power? In Sonic X it was revealed that Eggman must have traveled to Sonic's world from Earth. This Upset the balance of Sonics world and he was given the power to correct the imbalance. I can't remember the source so take this with a grain of salt, but if I recall there is some potential in a Sega confirmation that shadows design was inspired by the image of super/hyper sonic from the echidna mural lore wise. If that was the case, and factoring in black Doom and his seemingly inherent connection to the chaos emeralds as well (immortal lifeform is his self proclaimed title) then Gerald when engineering shadow most likely drew from the mural itself as a blueprint for shadows overall physical design, and relied on doom and his blood to imbue this connection to chaos control into shadow. Sonic is not necessarily the chaos forces response to shadows Impending creation because the hedgehogs in this case are actually derivative of each other, the essential mirror trope of fiction of a classic yin yang and I'll elaborate more on this in a moment. Shadow as we know him exists because of Sonic's prophecy. He is the artificial life form, not a natural cause of the force for that title would belong to another being. Black Doom What I find interesting is that shadow is an extension of Doom, and if we look to explain the nature of beings "born" with chaos control then doom and sonic fulfil two halves of that energies own nature. That being positive and negative energy. Shadows role as an anti hero and artificial, independent creature allows him to defy the convention of his "father" doom as the "evil" or negative representative. So perhaps sonic was born to serve as a natural focal point of the positive side of the chaos force and doom was the negative focal point. After all doom was born way before sonic, and Sonic's overall life span places him in line with the impending invasion and coming of Doom. Had Shadow not been the main protagonist of his own game, sonic would have been the only other one with the potential to stop doom. Shadow now serves to hold his father's place in this spectrum embodying the negative or "dark side" of the chaos force but, his grey morality allows him to forgo the role of villain however and be whatever he wants to be hence his role as the anti hero.

Lol as far as Tails goes, taking down any of the other characters head-on is out of the question due to the simple fact that he is half their age. Probably the highest potential, but realistically...just not there yet

The idea of Sonic having a sort of connection to the Chaos Force, or at least something similar, kinda inadvertently means that it was kinda prophesied that Shadow would end up throwing things out of whack, given how Sonic shows up in murals. I mean, it seems to me that Shadow might have been based on the murals in question, in-universe. Which means that Sonic's existence was also prophesied, in-universe. Which kinda makes me think that the prophesy is self-fulfilling. Also, confusing. I hope this doesn't cause anyone to start thinking in circles...

This gets a little headcanon-y, but this is how I see it: Back before when sonic was born, his parents were great heroes like how he was (just not as fast though). And one time, his father had to use the chaos emeralds to go into a super form (in my headcanon, super forms can grant you fast speeds despite you having slow speed). But some of that chaos energy did remain in his body, and it was inherited by his son when he impregnated his wife. So you could think of sonic's speed as a fraction of a super form. I know it's a little whack, but still

It would explain why Sonic is getting more and more powerful as the games go on. Dark Sonic (Sonic X) is probably also related to this. (Metal Virus saga in IDW also shows some clues.) Sega/Sonic Team probably won't do much with this or answer if this theory is true, but it does give merit to some plot points and could be used for a good fan fiction. Maybe he starts to lose control of his powers and it signals the time for his destiny to be fulfilled? Dark Sonic could also play a part in this. Though, based off what you just said, I feel Unleashed or 06 is the true ending to that plotline. It just makes since and works well. Regarding Tails, I believe he's very special compared to the rest of the cast. ( Maybe not in the way Archie comics did him., but he may also have a destiny to fulfill. Eggman, Knuckles, Blaze, and Amy too. Every character actually could have their powers for a specific moment. One where the 'Ultimate Lifeform' will require their help to end... whatever the destiny of his is. Good video dude. I hope to see more Sonic theory videos from you.

That's an interesting point that sonic might not know about where his own powers come from. I agree that him being that good of a guy protecting him. No I think that point of him being a servant potentially of the caoas emeralds themselves could be a reasonable point. They do seem to like him and he seems to be were ever they get involved and he usually ends up in a way rescuing them from robotnick almost more then animals. hun...Anyway, I saw a fan comic play around with the idea of sonic being bound the the emeralds kind of like knuckles is to the master emerald. Granted he dies literally in that time line but still an interesting point. He has all kinds of weird things connected to the emeralds. In sonic x he was able to send them away. He has also been show to bring them too him in a sense almost at will. He was the first to go super with them so there's something to be said for that. Have we seen a moment where someone goes super with out sonic present to start the process? Think about it he seems to almost spread it to the other characters or show them how to do it? Even shadow didn't do it before meting sonic. I think that says a lot. He does seem to be able to channel them. Many would argue that shadow is better at caos control then sonic. I would ague that sonic has the better channeling ability just not as much control. You could say that while shadow uses it sonic feels it. There is also this sense of a little bit of caos in every living creature and some creatures in sonics world just having more of a affinity for it then others. I just realized silver did it once with out sonic present but he saw sonic do it first so there is an argument for that too. Luck, you could say, is a power too.

My theory of how tails can fly is that he shoves a massive tail wing made of glass in his rear to give him more stable flight. Since its fully transparent you cannot see it move due tails his flight always being viewed from the side

In Sonic X, the 2nd awakened clone of shadow whooped Sonic's ass immediately after whooping Knuckles' ass. In Shadow the Hedgehog, of course he whooped Sonic's ass, it's his fucking video game. I've always taught about it as this. Shadow's stronger than Sonic, but Sonic can level up more, if that makes any sense. He has fire sonic, dark sonic, super sonic, hyper sonic, fire sonic (though I don't believe fire sonic is canon) while we've only seen shadow and silver in their super forms. And if you take dark sonic into consideration, it's litwrally just sonic, but getting angry and letting go. So idk.

​@@DeathPoker1 Shadow wasn't actually stronger than Sonic in Sonic X. In Sonic X Sonic and Shadow only fought 5 times. In their first encounter, no one actually won in that fight because the police showed up and Shadow decided to flee the scene with the Chaos Emerald he had. But if that fight was to keep on going than Sonic would probably have lost due to the fact that Shadow had an external advantage in that fight which was the chaos emerald he had, which doesn't make him more stronger in essence than Sonic. In their second encounter on prison island Sonic fought Shadow to a stand still, but both had to retreat as the island was going to soon detonate. In their third encounter in Space colony ARK, Both fought each other to a standstill again but Shadow retreated because he didn't see the need to keep on fighting Sonic when he thought he had completed his goal of fulfilling Dr Gerald's plan of world destruction. In their fourth encounter in space, Sonic and Shadow were in their Super-form's and both fought each other to a stand still but both had to stop fighting and retreat again because the Metarex base near them had collapsed into a black hole. In there fifth encounter when Shadow broke into Tail's Space Ship, Sonic had to take a chaos spear attack for Chris, saving his life but the attack made Sonic to weak to stop Shadow, so Shadow was able to take him out. Sonic could've stopped Shadow but couldn't in that situation because he was protecting Chris's life with his life. So that scene doesn't prove that Shadow is more powerful than Sonic. But no matter what happened in Sonic X, I don't think its relevant because its not canon. The Comics aren't canon as well. In Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic has proven to outlast Shadow in a battle. At the end of the final battle Super Shadow couldn't maintain his super form(probably due to inexperience as this was the first time he went Super with the chaos emeralds) and fell back down to the earth, he was suppose to die after that but Sega brought him back in the games due to the fans popular demand. I believe that Sonic and Shadow are both equal in power, Shadow was a character that was made to be the exact opposite of Sonic, thus why he is named "Shadow" the hedgehog because he is the exact opposite of Sonic; character, behavior and personality wise. It also seems that Sonic is one of the only characters strong enough to counter Shadow.

My headcanon is that Sonic and Ivo Robotnik used to work togeger. He got his powers trough science. Ivo at some point became evil tho. Sonic wont kill Ivo due to their past. Ivo used to experiment with chaos emeralds and somehow Sonic got his power from that. Maybe Ivo turned evil as the result of the experiment. This would also parallel Gerald and Shadow to an extent.
