I was taken ilegaly to the states back in ´82 so Igrew up with 1580 but for various reasons I ended up back in GUATEMALA but Istill love all the music they used to play. Thank all of you who made possible for me to hear that music 30 years later on the internet.

Yes I was 15 yrs old when I use to hear the high energy show n stayed up late on a saturday nights I still do have some cassettes left that servive with me but alot of them got lost! Now I hear the new KDAY 93.5 FM now and back in the day!!! Thanks!!

Slim I am sure in the mid 1980s you folks were at the top of your game.... but back in the early 1970s it was Wolfman Jack spinning the oldies on KDAY 50,000 watts. We could pick it up loud and clear all the way to Fresno, to 29 Palms (29 Stumps for the Marine Corps). Truly rocking........ I can still hear him now "ok Baby!" then break into a commercial. Some of the commercials back then were great too.

I remember right around the time i was listening to KDAY on the am dial. i was also listening to KACE and KJLH on the FM dial. Saturday Night Jams.. now those were the good ol days .. not the stuff we hear today .. but all the dance and early rap grooves.

Indeed i do just like it was yesterday. I was in high school probably i was 17 yrs old in 1984 when i graduated from high school. I live in Santa Barbara County an a friend of mine told me there was a New radio station out of Los Angeles called KDAY, It's was on AM 1580 but we could only hear KDAY clearly at 5:30pm till 6am the next day. Spent MANY nights tapping music and the Mixmaster Show on Saturday or Friday Night Live on Friday. Wish i could go bacc to the 1980's and stay forever!.

As others have mentioned, I too saved the Saturday night mixes. I have some 90 minute cassettes with some dope ass shit on them recorded in the mid 80's. Man, those were the days. I sort of miss them.

I was able to listen to KDAY in San Francisco since the signal was so strong . There was nothing out here in the Bay Area at that time that would come close to what KDAY played.

I remember KDAY, I used to listen to them all night and wake up to the morning show. I still have a tape recording I made of the Mac-attack mixmaster show from around 86 or so. After they went off the air I eventually found my way to 92.3 the BEAT, good substitute.

@shineomite I'm not even from LA,but I loved it when my cousins from Bellflower would come south with a duffle-bag of KDAY tapes! Man talkin' about a kid dubbin' his ass off!! KDAY had the hottest jams from BOTH COASTS and PLACES IN BETWEEN!! Rather they were well known or not!! And a 24hr. hip hop format??!! WBLS and KISS FM in NY couldn't even boast that,and they were beasts too!

1580 KDAY paved the way for EPMD and other East Coast rap groups groups. Hip-Hop never would've evolved the way it did with out KDAY. Real heads know this. Dig that one...........

I remember KDAY as an "FM on AM" station prior to the R & B days. I also remember the day they announced the change to R & B - as part of their hourly newscast.

The best station ever they broke all the rules which I loved about K-day. They made their own charts. These stations out here in Los Angeles now suck they never play local artist K-day help make stars here like NWA, King Tee, Compton's most wanted etc. I miss that K-day the new K-day is corporate.

I do I lived in the Valley in the 80s & Back then they didnt play Soul or Black artist on regular radio Station & there wer like 3 other radio station that did & Kday was the younger more popular music I loved it but it cam it fuzzie in the Valley

Best station ever the new K-day can't fuck with the old K-day. The reason we had a rap scene in the west was because of the Old K-day. They cared about the community they played NWA, King Tee, Ice T, Above the Law etc I miss those days. Our radio stations out here don't even play west coast rappers music no more corporate fuck face hambone hilly busta ass fuckas killing our scene.

i wonder if you had some of the other radio clips from back then? the one with the operator on the phone? yeah, this station was definitely the station. i don't think there will ever be anything like it again. but then again, who knows? i'm waiting for someone to beat out Power 106, where hip hop turns to simp hop.
