Well, technically speaking, battlecruisers ARE scouts. Incredibly heavy scouts, yes, but still scouts. After all, both the British and German navies employed their battlecruisers as scouting elements ahead of the main fleet body during the First World War. The Battle of Jutland, for example, saw Admiral Beatty's Battlecruiser Fleet operate as an advance guard and scouting force for Admiral Jellicoe's Grand Fleet while Admiral Hipper's battlecruiser-led Scouting Force served the same role for Admiral Scheer's High Seas Fleet. The high speed and powerful armament of battlecruisers actually make them excellent scouts, since they are able to steam ahead of the fleet with the more traditional scouts, such as light cruisers and destroyers, while maintaining enough firepower to fight for information and draw the enemy into an unfavorable match up with the main force.
@drewjohnson-852 жыл бұрын
True and if this ship is really the Klingon equivalent of a heavy scout ship, perhaps along the lines of a German Moltke-class or Seydlitz it would explain why the Klingons considered the Constitution-class to be a battlecruiser as if this ship has a heavier emphasis on armor and speed over fire power and speed to the federation equivalent then taking on The Enterprise one on one would be a tricky problem, not impossible is the Germans proved but without Admiral Beatty‘s inexplicable choice not to fire at long range, well most times he who fires first with the biggest gun wins.

great design, fits in beautifully with established design language. While not a "mystery" ship, the SS Aurora from TOS "Journey to Eden" feels like fertile ground for a re-interpretation. while the ship was meant to be a Federation civilian transport, the original model was the very alien Tholian ship, just backwards and with a pair of warp nacelles attached. the Remastered version used a modification of the J-type freighter created for the Remaster of "Mudd's Women" (i don't recall if in the original version of "Mudd's Women" had the ship as anything more than a point of light). i'd love to see a redesign of the Aurora keeping the Tholian kitbash silhouette but made out more in line with Federation ascetics.

The WWII ship USS Alaska is listed in various sources as a cruiser, heavy cruiser, armored cruiser, battle cruiser, or carrier escort cruiser. Just an example that ships might be simultaneously referred to by a variety of designations. Also some ships are simultaneously referred to both as a class based on their construction and weaponry, and also by what role the play in the fleet. That later designation would even change when the ship is reassigned to new duties. The long and short being that there have been many instances of a ship being referred to as a scout and a cruiser simply by different people during the same conversation.

The first one being the small one from the TOS movies, the one that flies with it's wings in the downswept position, but is small enough to land on a planet and raises its wings up to land. The second one looks exactly the same, but is portrayed as a significantly larger ship, and is always seen with the wings fixed in their widest stretched position, slightly but not completely raised, so the disruptor cannons on the ends are level with the bridge. The design you've come up were here feels like that. Like something between the small BOP and a full size battlecruiser, with similar upswept wings.

Although they didn't yet exist on the show, D7s have been in service since The Four Years War way back when Garth of Izar was still sane and a hero and either Pike or April commanded Enterprise. Kirk was either still in the Academy or maybe on Farragut under Garrovick. Now for some real world stuff. That is an absolutely lovely looking ship and fits in so well as a smaller, lighter counterpart to the D7, sort of like an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer is a Ticonderoga-class cruiser, (well sort of as the former is now almost as big as the latter), perhaps the MEKO 100 and MEKO 200 are a better comparison. It showcases something you never see in TOS, and that isn't really addressed in later Trek series either, the idea that space fleets in the Star Trek universe aren't just composed of a single do-all class of starship. In TOS we only see the Constitution class, the D7 and the Warbird, we never get to find out if the Federation, the Klingons or the Romulans have smaller vessels for doing the more mundane everyday stuff that must go on for space faring civilisations such as border and anti-piracy patrols, search and rescue and just cruising around colony systems waiting for stuff to go wrong. It would make no sense to use powerfull long range cruisers like the Enterprise for this sort of stuff so Star Fleet must have frigate and corvette equivilants and so must the other powers. It also raises the issue of whether there are larger ships than the Constitutions are well, say like the infamous three nacelled Dreadnought. I know Roddenberry wanted the Federation and Star Fleet to be a bunch of peace loving explorers but let's face it, the Trek verse is a dangerous place full of conflict and potential aggressors. Having a few heavily armed battleships on hand to protect your planets makes a lot of sense.

Excellent design. It looks like it's many generations ahead of any ship in startrek ever. With a proper paint scheme It could also fit in starwars.

Thanks! This is great work! I love how it looks both unique and yet looks consistent with the Klingon design, and the TOS era designs as well, with simple shapes windows.
