Different characters, but I think both can stand on their own as great. Duvall's was a quiet bad ass. Hamilton's was the personification of early onset 1980's corporate greed. With that in mind, I think everyone can agree that casting George Hamilton was nothing short of inspired. Dude's on-screen presence alone legitimizes the character & he nailed the performance.

You skipped over an important “What If” considering the casting of Mary Corleone in THE GODFATHER PART III. On July 18, 1989, actress Rebecca Schaeffer (TV’s My Sister Sam) was preparing for an audition later that day for the role of Mary Corleone. Hearing a knock at her apartment door (likely thinking it would be something like a screenplay delivery), Rebecca Schaeffer was instead faced with an insane fan, who shot and murdered her, reportedly with her Godfather Part III screenplay laying nearby. Schaeffer’s death led a year later to California’s passing of the USA’s first anti-stalking bill in 1990. We have no way of knowing if Rebecca Schaeffer would have landed the role of Mary Corleone, but if she had, neither Winona Ryder nor Sofia Coppola might have either been considered for the role.

The best channel on KZbin strikes again! Loved this video. My favourite bit of Godfather trivia has always been that Elvis Presley was a huge fan of the book and lobbied hard to play Tom Hagen. Obviously that didn’t work out, but by all accounts he was genuinely considered for it. Also, Frank Sinatra wanted to play Vito, and when he didn’t get it, he was infamously annoyed at the Johnny Fontaine character being based on him 😂
@davidjames5794 ай бұрын
With Sinatra I heard that Coppola or Paramount approached him, and he said no after "persuasion" from some of his "friends". And yeah, he was pissed at Johnny Fontaine, as it was digging up an old myth about how he got his career started in music, and how he got the career reviving role in From Here To Eternity, after Eli Wallach had already been cast in it.

Godfather 4 sounds that it would have been really good. As for the alternate 3rd one with the CIA conspiracy, I think it could have had a great mirroring and contrasting of Michael and Anthony as well as the era of their crime family. Michael left the family to fight in WW2 as a Marine and came back to help the family, meanwhile Anthony was in the Navy and later CIA before coming back to the family for help. 1940s had the family at their perceived height but with heavy competition. Meanwhile the 60s and 70s saw the family at the height of their expansion and influence, their monetary and power “golden age” where they are in a position to be needed to help Anthony where before Michael was needed to help the family.

My thoughts about what was discussed: *Leone's Godfather Film would almost certainly be even more negative towards Vito, Michael and the rest of the Mafia compared to what we got. Mainly because One Upon A Time In America portrayed organised crime in a very negative way. *I'm not entirely sure if Brando could have successfully portrayed a younger Vito for various reasons. Not the least the fact he looked too old for the part. *I would have loved to see the original Godfather Part III proposal be made, because the plot is interesting enough for someone to make a good film out of it. *Stallone should have taken up the offer for The Godfather Part III, mainly because it would have further boosted his career after making Rocky and the first Rambo film. *There is also another reason why The Godfather Part IV shouldn't be made, which is that Coppola himself wouldn't be the one to direct it.

The studio however said no, and went with the more experienced Sydney Pollack. Scorsese doing a film about the Japanese Mafia sounds fascinating. In 1969, Scorsese, fresh off his first feature (Who's That Knocking At My Door? (1968) held the screen rights for a year for Phillip K Dick's novel Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? His friend and ongoing collaborator Jay Cocks spent that time developing a screenplay, After the rights lapsed, the film would later be shot and released as Blade Runner.

I actually love the concept of Godfather Part IV and it’s a shame that Puzo died before the script could be completed

I always wondered why the Clamenza actor had made the biggest payday on the first movie. Now it makes sense with the studio requiring Brando to take a pay cut, and the rest of the cast being unknown or mostly only known in the theatre.

I can’t believe that he forgot to mention about The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone! Other than that, I am glad that Mario Puzo wrote his best selling novels until his death.

Perhaps Connie becomes the new Don taking over the family business, making her _The Godmother..._ 🤔

I'm not sure if a female boss in an Italo-American crime family would be realistic, the American mob is still very patriarchal. That being said, the Camorra , which is the Mafia of Naples/Italy has had numerous female bosses over the years. For example Maria Licciardi AKA ''La Padrina" ( ''the Godmother") and yes, they really called her that name. She's currently in jail, after being a fugitive for many years and was known to be a very calculating & ruthless boss, like Michael is portrayed. Her story would make a great gangster movie.

Speaking of Sofia Coppola, you should do a Bullets & Blockbusters episode on her unmade film adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's *"THE LITTLE MERMAID"* which she was to direct under Universal Pictures & Working Title Films and would have starred Ethan Hawke & Uma Thurman's daughter Maya as the titular character.

I knew Carmine Caridi.....he said Puzo was hot on him for Sonny......he told me he tested with Duvall and Tony Lo Bianco who was testing for Michael.....from the neck up Caridi was perfect...but in the book, he was only 6 feet and strongly built...like Rocky Marciano

Could imagine Orson Welles as Vito Corleone, he campaigned hard for the role.

Without Coppola and the cast who was in the trilogy… it would have become another forgotten movie. Coppola is a genius.

Seriously I would love to see DiCaprio as a brutal mafia boss. He’s great as a good guy in movies, but he’s awesome as a villain, it’s why I love Wolf on Wall Street.

The godfather 3 script written by the execs actually sounds like a really good movie. But would feel a bit off for a godfather film

“the only way I'd do it was if they'd let me film 'Abbott and Costello Meet the Godfather'- that would have been fun.” Francis Ford Coppola…. Great content as always Bullets and Blockbusters

I laughed my ass off at the mention of Puzo buying a book, and it's first step was to read his book, then he threw away the book. *Gold * 🤣🤣

Up and coming sitcom actress Rebecca Schaeffer was cast in the role of the daughter, was actually waiting for the script to arrive at her house, when she was gunned down by an obsessed fan.
