Fishing with the ORIGINAL RAPALA FLOATING MINNOW - The #1 Lure of All Time! The Original Floating RAPALA Minnow is one of angling's all time greatest fishing lures. A fishing lure that swims, darts, pops, floats, twitches and its action is only limited to the imagination. Most modern minnow baits take from the Original Rapala Minnow design. The Rapala Floating Minnow will catch any fish in the water from carp to musky. Because the Rapala is so deadly there has been talk that it should be banned. I say "No Way! FISH YOUR WAY!" Have fun out there and we are always happy to share our experiences with all those around the world and hope you enjoyed the video as much as we did making it and remember always - Fish Your Way!

Thanks Michael, one of my first too, I must digress and have to share but think the first one I can recall before this was a rooster tail and I remember I had a giant bluegilll take it. Still have that rooster tail too stashed in a old box. I dont think i would take it out for a 16lb bass! It was a really nice day out on the water and happy to share. so much welcome and thanks as always Michael for watching, commenting and sharing!

Hi Jerry, That was a great day using the floating minnows. I have them in a few sizes and colors that I inherited from my dad. I did remove the front and rear hooks. The balance stayed the same and they float level. I think they work best in the spring and early summer. Good luck and stay safe up there, Mickey
@FishYourWay
@FishYourWay 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mickey, one day I will have to try that with the hooks but something about the lure as it is i love and always find it hard to do. I would find it hard to use the ones you have I have a few old ones when I was younger and I dont like using them rather look at them. Its funny I cant remember what I had for dinner but I can look a a single old fishing lure in my stash box and recall exactly what happened that day by looking at the lure. May be why i love the rap! Thanks for sharing as always Mickey!

@FishYourWay
@FishYourWay 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Felix was fun making it! I hear you can remove the rear treble or just use one in the middle and the action is the same. Never tried that or just using single hooks. I dont use them often so I like em as they are stock as Lauri Rapala made em! just love the nostalgia of the lure. I am sure they would have some magic in any case!

35 years of f11 silver in the lakes and rivers of North Florida. Just caught a 7 pound largemouth last week. Too many to count in a lifetime of fishing this. I top twitch it slowly until I'm half way back to the boat. Had many hooked by simply reeling it in on the diving action too.

Great video. What a lure! Those 4"--5" Rapalas and Rebels catch everything...fresh or salt. I've even gotten fluke and catfish on them. I often remove either the center or tail hook...never the front hook...especially for bass (stripers or large/small mouth). They're toothless "head hunters" and swallow fish head first. It's rare that I catch a bass with its lips hooked on the tail hook. Best fishes Jerry! Stay safe...be well... Frank
@FishYourWay
@FishYourWay 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Frank! I can agree about that rear treble hook, rarely if any you get one on it alone and one to remove thats the one. I feel when I fish a Rap I have to keep her on for the ambiance of the lure. dont ask just me lol. I have heard the action changes when you remove it but I never fished them as such but sounds like it makes sense. I have found when striper fishing some nights I get em on the mid and others on the rear. Although no hard truth I have drawn the conclusion it may show how the fish are attacking. Rear hook = straight level attacks fish are horizontal and chasing your lure as such in fast attacks. Middle or head hook ups the are attacking above or below, vertically almost like a ambush attack so on a given night you can remove one or the other hook and your hooks ups will for the most be all well! Or you get that 100lb striper that just swallows the 14" plug to the gullet anycase!!!! But my imagination just runs wild on me! Thanks as always frank always makes my night hearing from you, stay well and blessed in these times!

@@davidwilt5719 good point 😄. However, I used those lures for over 45 years before I removed either treble. I mostly remove the center treble...one less hook to remove

@@FishYourWay Thanks man! Wild imagination got you making us all these good videos! Removing the center or tail treble didn't seem to change the action. I've deadened the action on those lures when I upsized the trebles though.

The F18 size has been my favorite jerkbait for 30 years. They can do anything from topwater popping to fairly deep trolling. Removing the middle hook makes it run shallower with wider wobble, which is good some days. One year I caught my biggest walleye on this 7" bait while twitching it on the top. Another crazy catch was a Goldeye over 20" (they are usually around 12" and caught on trout lures). Later I found out it could have been an Alberta record, or very close.
@FishYourWay

I have a few of the 18 I know I should use em more! one of the biggest largemouth I had was on a perch f18 it had to be well over 8lbs maybe over 9-10lbs. my buddy had a 2-3 pound bass while i was unhooking mine for fun that bass we were able to fit in the big ones mouth! Going to keep in mind!

@@FishYourWay Wow! Huge bass! I dont think the 18 works better than the 13 size, but they do cast better, and the fish I use them for dont mind the size. From shore packing around big baits like that can be a bit inconvenient, nothing you dont do in the surf though.

Just a feel, I like to keep the reel open and count on my thumb. Sometimes brakes (mag) are great but you really have to zing em to work right. A lot of it is the rod and how you swing it so its loads right.40ft is all I look for, great question
