Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie, the long-awaited revival of the popular Nickelodeon series, is set to air this November. While many characters from the original series were recast, 19 of the show’s original voice actors will be returning for the movie, including Francesca Marie Smith and Anndi McAfee, the voices of Helga and Phoebe, respectively. Yeah, the voices of Arnold and Gerald and, really, all, the boy characters were cycled out at least once or twice. Francesca Marie Smith was cast as a kid and just stayed on. It’s like when Digimon Adventure Tri and Last Evolution Kizuna were being dubbed, they brought back everybody they could and they sounded basically the same.

Helga is what makes the show in my opinion. I mean, everyone else is great, too, but Helga is basically the main character, even though the show is called Hey Arnold!.

Well, the fact that the show's called "Hey Arnold" IS basically Helga talking to Arnold. "Hey Arnold! I'm trying to get your attention, football head!" Helga IS the main character, basically.

Yes, and no. The show features him, but most of the heartfelt episodes feature Helga, barring Parent's Day & The Journal. In fact, without Helga & her infatuation for her "Football-Headed Love God" (literally, given the Green-Eyes citing him as _The Chosen One_ to save the adults of their tribe from the sleeping sickness), Arnold wouldn't have been able to find Mai (Mr. Hyuhn's daughter) in _Arnold's Christmas_ NOR would he have his parents as they would've stayed comatose from the sleeping sickness, the Green-Eyes would've been wiped out (as young children cannot sustain themselves without adult assistance forever), and we wouldn't get the buzz behind a potential season 6/The Pataki's (the planned spin-off centered on a teen Helga).

It honestly makes me tear up to hear Francesca talk about how Helga felt like a part of her. Because Helga felt so real to me. Still does. I always identified with her a lot, because... Well, I'm pretty much wired to ship, but there was no internet when I was growing up; I didn't tell anyone about it and I didn't know anyone like me. So I was carrying around these intense but very private feelings that were very meaningful to me, but at the same time, awkward and embarrassing... Sound familiar? Yeah. Even if it was different, it meant a lot to me to see a character who had those kinds of strong romantic feelings, and to see those feelings treated as real and important, even if they were kind of crazy. So in that way, I feel like Helga's a part of me, too. She definitely played a role in how I see myself, that's for sure.

What I don't understand though is what about Arnold? Why did he have 4 different actors throughout the series? Toran, Phil Van Dyke and Spencer Klein were all talented and did fantastic work. I just re-watched the jungle movie again and I agree I would love it I think the only reason the ratings were not good is because they aired it on nick and most people don’t have cable most adults have streaming services and a lot of younger kids are not interested in Hey Arnold I guarantee if they would’ve put it on a streaming service the ratings would have been through the roof so I hope that they do a six season and they put it on a streaming platform because most adults will definitely watch it I would subscribe to a new streaming service if I had to just to watch the sixth season of hey Arnold

Helga might be my favorite character on "Hey Arnold!" and that's mainly because I can just see Ms. Smith having the absolute time of her life saying her dialogue. Sometimes Helga says something priceless, and I just imagine her saying it in the recording booth and loving every minute of it. I always felt that joy of voice acting in the character (heck, ALL the characters). On a side note . . . I wonder how many times a guy with glasses has stood behind Ms. Smith and breathed heavily until she punches him and walks away.

The funny thing is Craig Bartlett himself wanted Hey Arnold The Movie (originally titled Arnold Saves the Neighborhood) to be a TV movie and for The Jungle Movie to be a theatrical movie, but after the theatrical successes of The Rugrats Movie and Rugrats in Paris, The executives at Nickelodeon decided to make a theatrical movie based on another one of their popular shows and forced Bartlett into making the Saving the Neighborhood movie into a theatrical movie. Then after Hey Arnold The Movie bombed at the box office, The Jungle movie was cancelled.

Well the thing is she got lucky because girls when they grow up their voices, don't really change that much. Boys on the other when they hit puberty their voices change more than girl's it gets deeper as they grow up. So it was easy to cast the same girls from the original Hey Arnold, but they had te recast a lot of the boys.

Well, Arnold himself had like 5 different voices (Toran, Phillip, Spencer, Alex, and now whomever voices him in TJM). Even Gerald's original voice actor, though on-board for TJM, won't be reprising Gerald anymore, he'll be likely voicing one of the adults (like the mailman who "hates the snow" whose original voice actor passed away, perhaps or even Gerald's older brother Jami-O or Gerald's veteran father). Only the girls will mostly reprise their roles, because they can still do the voices, whereas puberty causes many boys' voices to drop & deepen, so Toran and Phil became 6th grade bullies Wolfgang and Ludwig after they stopped voicing Arnold as Spencer & then Alex took over. The only male character to continue being voiced by his original actor is Harold, because Harold was already 13 character-wise despite being in the 4th grade (due to being held back because "I'm not stupid, I just never really applied myself" as he told girlfriend "Big" Patty yet he had to have even failed preschool in order for him to be 13 as a 4th grader, which does say something about his intelligence level).

Alas. It's not often you have a voice actor that looks so much like the character. It’s wild that when you listen to the adults talking they do not sound like their cartoon characters But when you see the little clip of the cartoon movie they totally sound like their characters I’m watching that with my daughter now my older kids were the ages that the original characters were when they watched it if that makes sense
