While I did wait with friends at Walmart for the midnight release of the Xbox, I didn’t get my own until a couple of month later when I won one from Taco Bell! 3 days after the launch saw the release of the Gamecube and that’s where my gaming dollars went. It was the first system I purchased with my own money as an 18 year old. Despite a friend calling it the “shamecube”, I loved that little lunchbox! When did you end up getting a Gamecube Tyler?

I could chose only games that had an age restriction up to 12 years old. I randomly chose Metal Arm - Glitch in the system and i never had any regret. It was an awesome pick and i had fun for months. when i entered 6ths grade i was finally allowed to have GTA - San Andreas after i begged my mom for MONTHS and only got it, because my best friend also had it at home. good times.

I’m sorry you lost your father; he seemed like an incredible man . My father was like yours - he loved video games, and he bought just about every game console on their respective launch days. Those were exciting times. When I finally reached my teenage years, I began working and saving for my own games and console systems. After my father retired, his finances weren’t the best, but it didn’t matter. In a sweet twist of irony, I began buying him new console systems when they launched. I remember how he cried when I bought him a Gamecube. (My father isn’t the type to usually cry.) When I asked him why he was crying, he said, ‘I raised my boy right. I remember when I used to buy these systems for you, when you were younger.’ He paused and then said, ‘I remember feeling so excited when I bought you a new system. The excitement drove me crazy, because I couldn’t wait to see your reaction when you got home from school.’

Incredible story, thank you for sharing with us. I remember Christmas morning in 2003 when I had opened the original Xbox. The big green logo on the box made me lose my mind. By far my favorite Christmas present of all time. I bought one off eBay and it still works just like 2003. Nothing made today has ever measured up to that original Xbox.

lets just take a moment to say tyler's dad is f*cking poggers bro. i would love to have a dad like that. growing up my dad was never there let alone played/bought games for me. this one time when i was 10 however, my dad tried to reconnect with me and bought me drill sergeant for skylanders (i didn't even own skylanders yet lol) and to this day it one of the few things hes ever given to me.

Back when game consoles were simple, fun straight gaming! Nothing complicated, no DLC, annoying system updates

What's wrong with dlc? It's just optional singleplayer content.
@dontcarelol91384 жыл бұрын
@@fungusamongus9686 in my opinion dlc is content that should’ve been in the game already i understand it’s a way for devs to make more money but sometimes they add very little to the game you spent 60 bucks on just so they have more dlc content and that’s where dlc gets a bad rep

Amazing time capsule! The original Xbox came out right after I finished highschool. I was kind of getting out of games and more focused on other things. But then I visited a friend and he was playing some game called... HALO! And that's when videogames sunk their hooks back into me and I've been addicted ever since!

I agree 100%. The Xbox truly felt like the spiritual successor to the Dreamcast. I liked it A LOT more than the PS2. I traded in my PS2 and bought an Xbox. I had waited a while, so when I bought the Xbox, it came with the smaller controller (which I loved). My favorite games being Doom 3, Rainbow Six 3, and Max Payne. The best part of being a gamer in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s was the magazines that came with demos of games. It truly made game buying decisions so much easier. Loved the demo discs for the Dreamcast and the Xbox.

I had a love hate relationship with Sega. I finally felt Sega did it right with the Dreamcast...until they dropped out of the hardware market. I was just as devastated. Some hope still lingers every year deep down inside. But Xbox did fill that gap for some time. I didn' t know that the 360 was the last console that your Dad had given you. Thanks as always for sharing so much with us. Definitely makes my day as always Tyler.

I did not realize a lot of people felt the same way I did growing up with sega dreamcast. Sega Dreamcast was like that in the movies where you meet the perfect girlfriend/boyfriend and fall in love, only to later find out she is moving to another part of the country with her parents and you can't do anything about it so she is gone forever.
