The Orthodox Presbyterian Church from 1945 to 1990

The Orthodox Presbyterian Church was formed in 1936 out of the modernist-fundamentalist controversy at a time when figures such as J. Gresham Machen were struggling with liberal influences at Princeton Seminary and the mainline Presbyterian Church. Much has been written on those early years, but a significant gap in the history persisted until recently. For the OPC's 75th anniversary, the Committee for the Historian has commissioned two books. The first is a collection of essays edited by John R. Muether and Danny E. Olinger titled Confident of Better Things. The second is Between the Times: The Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Transition 1945-1990 written by Darryl. G. Hart. Hart's book wonderfully chronicles the OPC during the transition beyond the first generation as the young Reformed denomination sought to find its identity in a changing evangelical world. Today Dr. Hart visits Christ the Center to speak about this important period in American Presbyterianism.

trueorthodoxfaith, I recommend watching the video you're commenting on if you have not. The Orthodox Presbyterian Church is Orthodox in that it holds to the ecumenical creeds of the early church that precede the division of the eastern and western church as well as the Westminster Standards. Our tradition is rooted in Scripture and these confessions of the church that agree with Scripture.

I have come to learn of the OPC after I heard the teachings of Rev. G.I.Williamson. I am very interested, God willing to invite the OPC to open its Ministry here in North -east India specially at this time where the Presbyterian churches here do no longer teach the orthodox reformed doctrine.

It was a significant mistake to not have PCA and OPC join. Are there any, and I mean any OPC churches in Boston, Massachusetts, Philadelphia, or Princeton. All of theor churches are in rural areas. What is the history behind their inability to reach: Rastafarians, Peurtp Rocans, African Americans amd even people for Slavic communities: Russian, polish, Lithuanian, Ukrainian communities in Northeat Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh area. Are there any Spanish speaking Churches in Trenton NJ, Camden, NJ and other blue coller communities in the Northeast: especially Northern New Jersey.

So the Orthodox Presbyterian church believes in the 7 Ecumenical Councils, the church Fathers, recites the Nicene Creed, has incense and icons. Can you trace your church back to an original Apostle? Do you have monastic communities? Does your church adhere to communion, baptism and confession?
