I like both Star Wars and Star Trek. Star Wars for more a fantasy style and Star Trek for a scientific thing and more mundane topic. The Orvill never heard of it but it seems so much fun and comedy wise show. ;)

The Orville is the new Star Trek show that the fans deserve. The actual official new Star Trek shows are not really that popular and a lot of fans hate them. The Orville is the better new Star Trek. Bortus, however, is giving off strong Teal'c vibes, (he is from Stargate SG-1, off course) if you ask me.

They definitely don't get into the family guy cutaway type stuff. This show really tries, especially in the first season, to toe the line between comedy and more serious, earnest sci-fi, and it eventually finds its feet by moving away from the comedy side a bit. It's still funny though, and for me it makes the jokes better by allowing them to happen more naturally. I do like the tone of this first season as well though, it's really interesting coming back to it after watching the more recent stuff.

Ive heard a lot of good things. Seth Mcfarland for me is a treasure and I am excited to see him In a serious roll yet obviously funny. I mean the way he delivers his lines, intended to be not funny or even funny is still funny to me. Def excited to see more! Every Wednesday :)

@@ItssDevv Yeah, it's given me a whole new appreciation for Seth McFarlane, the fact that some of the best sci-fi going around at the moment is written by him is not something I ever expected to say

@@forsinain4946 It’s a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. ;)

I'm a hige Star Trek nerd, and I am a legit fan of the Orville. The show gets good all on its own. ecause it's a parody they can get away with some actual story beats doing things a 'serious' show can't because they would be afriad to.

The device generates a time dilation bubble actually which is a real concept, except the scifi part of it is that it's reversed. But time dilation is a real thing. You might see a black hole as a time dilation device or in fact yourself as one. Any matter drags on time, but that means the closer to it the slower time goes. So you would slow down and as you move from it come back to a world that experienced more time. If you would camp out on the event horizon of the nearest black hole for a week and head back to earth you'd come back to the future. There are actually massive objects on Earth where within the line of sight this time difference is measurable. Like if you visit the Great Pyramid of Giza then your life will last a few nanoseconds further in time in the context of the world's progression than if you hadn't. What they do here is the reverse however, and that doesn't exist. They built a device that doesn't cause time to flow at 0.x in closer proximity (within a, by the tech, clearly defined border) but at 1+. That's both time dilation, but natural forces don't work in that direction. 1+ is in the eye of the observer whereas 0.x is the effect of the source, or in practical terms, the mass of matter.

New sub for Orville. As a 35+ year Trekkie, I don't know what to make of this series. Most of the plots are SO directly drawn from Trek to the point where I don't know if it still qualifies as a parody. It's almost more of a direct remake or a cheap copy. Yet, I'm kind of loving it anyway. Maybe it is just withdrawal, since there hasn't been any Star Trek on TV for about 20 years.
