For example in the one about Topa's gender restoration surgery, they missed a good opportunity for Topa to discover the truth after feeling something was off by using the machine that's used for simulating dead alien races using their DNA... or at least used it to see what she was meant to be. So, given that this 2 important figures are on Orville and captain being very successful diplomat, they became the pivotal point of this conflict. The arms swaying is an integral part for the stability in natural bipedal locomotion. Even if you think you don't you will always sway your arms while walking or running , even if it's just a little bit. If the kaylons were programmed with the same algorythm for moving they will sway their arms too and since their stance is so rigid they compensate with a more conspicuous swaying of the arms, it's in their programming. And also since they're played by ordinary people, the movement just comes naturally.

Thing is, once a genie is out of the bottle, it's impossible to put it back into the bottle. Just the knowledge that such a weapon is possible means that others could quickly redevelop it so taking the device back only delays the situation. Also, it's clear that the weapon exploits some failsafe built into the Kaylons so presumably counter measures could also be quickly developed and applied as a security patch. The cat is already out of the bag with this weapon, both replication by others and effective counter measures are now inevitable.

The US merchant vessel Enterprise? Probably wrong, but it would be a clever way to put in such an homage.

And a little too quick in setting up bizarre alliances with a "species", a bunch of robots, whose goal is to destroy anything biological - as shown several times over - but always opts to give people am option to "surrender or die", which was brought up loosely in "Identity" but quickly forgotten about. Especially when the Kaylon were shown to be far more powerful.

Agreed. The Charlie arc was useful to highlight and define the other characters. I hadn't even considered she would least only one season. Im a strong fan of multi episode characters who die. It raises the stakes. It gives the deaths real impact. Their deaths are not cheesey or funny. I wish we had known some of the other characters who died by having bit scenes and background extra scenes so their deaths matter.

Does anyone wonder why they Kaylon insist on humanoid form and atmospheric conditions inside their own ships?
@FreeScripts2 жыл бұрын
The kaylon were build by alienoid beings similar to humanoids. The Kaylon also require space to control their ships and probably use an auto-pilot to assist with certain functions.

@@tentailmadara2500 They were created by Alienoid beings. Similar to humans. The Kaylon do not want to change what they were built to look like as it makes them unique. As well as walking on 2 feet is most efficient.
@Dreamfox-df6bg2 жыл бұрын
@@tentailmadara2500 Most known biological sentients are humanoid. their technology is more easily accessible by humanoids, at least at first until a direct connection has been created. As for atmospheric conditions inside their ships, who is to say that they continuously keep those? They could create an atmosphere compatible to the outside whenever they need to. As to why do that with every ship? Sometimes you don't have the time to wait to have the necessary tools at hand, so bring them with you all the time. The Union ships are prepared for ground missions and have the equipment for those with them even if their current mission does not call for them. And that includes heavy gravity suits. Sure, you could always 'make' them as needed, but sometimes you don't have the time for that. Being prepared is being smart and you don't always have to improvise everything.
@TheZapan992 жыл бұрын
Even without taking biologicals in account, keeping an atmosphere inside your ship makes sense for robots. The vacuum of space acts as a perfect insulation, meaning the heat generated by electronics can only disperse through radiation, causing heat sinks and ventilators to become useless.

I really wish that I could include a species I created for my old Sci-Fi series into The Orville universe. They were engineered inorganic lifeforms, created as tools to terraform planets. Unlike the Kaylon's creators, the creators of these lifeforms (known as the Intermediaries, the Inert, Catalysts, or just Gray) were jovial and benevolent. They cherished any and everything they made, seeing destruction as an unfortunate compromise for even greater creation. The Gray were their magnum opus, with a collective mind that was built into the fabric of time and space itself. Each individual was nigh indestructible and physically imposing, but, like their creators, unwaveringly benevolent. Each individual specialized in some form of planet crafting, some with scopes as massive as planetary rotational speed, magnetosphere generation, and continental crafting, others as minute as genetic restructuring, atmospheric composition, and atomic weaving. Each job was as equal with another, and with their collective, they could not only tap into the skills and experience of another, but even interchange minds as needed. While they could throw mountains, crush stone, and consume metal, they didn't understand the concept of war or violence. If any would wish to do them harm, they'd ignore it. If they prevented their progress, they'd curl up into a ball and wait. If they threatened another lifeform, they'd wall them off. They speak, not with words, but with understanding, comprehending speech, emotions, thoughts, and reasons on instinct.

The lack of distinction in ship designs is to my knowkedge a purposeful in joke based on how star trek basically only had like 3 core models and just glued extra bits on them when they needed something different, so they did the exact same thing except with cgi, a true homage.
