They were an amazingly talented rock band that never got the accolades they deserved. They wrote all the songs, played every instrument on the albums, did all the vocals...but because they were religious, didn’t do drugs or sleep with groupies they were often overlooked. Such a shame. Merrill had one of the best rock voices ever.

Wow, so great to watch this live, I love "the Plan", it's such a great album. These guys were the real deal, and they were so young ! They should have been way more famous, and never got the respect that they deserved, they never play their songs on the radios, that breaks my heart ! I guess the promoters and art directors when for Donny and Marie for commercial purpose, and the rock critics and DJ's could never accept the fact that they were mormons and teenagers, such a shame ! I love to have friend in my man-cave, and play some heavy Osmond's tunes without them knowing ; and they always love it and ask me who it is, it blows their mind when they find out to is the Osmond's !!!!! Haha

People can joke about the Osmonds about their squeaky-clean image, but looking past the image, 1) They wrote a lot of their own material and produced it as well. 2) They could really play their instruments and 3) They could rock out, with "Crazy Horses" and "My Drum" being prime examples.Mike Portnoy (Dream Theatre) really loved "Crazy Horses"

Hey, thanks for posting this. Watching this video reinforces my belief that the Osmond Brothers weren't teenyboppers-instead, they were very skilled musicians, singers, songwriters, dancers, etc. that should be given the same respect as The Who, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, etc. And I dare say that Merrill Osmond is one of the great rock singers, up there with the likes of Roger Daltrey and Robert Plant. WHERE is the credit due him?

I have had a crush on Jay since 1971, I thought he was the cutest brother. I like the way he curls that bottom lip in when he plays the drums. It did then and still does drives me crazy when he does it. I can look at a picture of Jay and start smiling for no reason at all.

The OSMONDS must have been the most under-rated rock group in history and all because they didn't sleep around, take drugs blah blah blah makes me so angry to think what might have been :( But I guess their reason for making music was for a much higher purpose and they achieved that with top stars and some to spare! You know what bugs me about The Osmond thing. People who have the ability to spread it (DJ's rock writers etc) won't/can't for some reason come out and say it. The Osmonds have always been underrated just because of their teenybop image. It's just not fair but hey, we know and we can enjoy. The world will catch up, but still, it's a crying shame. And yes, Merrill Osmond is one of the most talented singers/dancers on the scene. They are all talented but he just stands out that tiddy bit more

This video does an excellent job of showing off their talents. They are obviously singing live as well as playing their own instruments. I think this video is one of their best performances ever.

I agree that this is amazing, a masterpiece of their genius in writing, setting it to music, playing all the instruments, and singing. The not only do all of the above, they could sell a song because of their moves, style, and just the joy of performing which shows in their faces and expressions. I also like this piece because they all had a solo spot.

I started getting into the Osmonds about 1971 at 6 years old.. I listened to this album over and over... wore it out... the message really got me thinking about God and His plan... I knew they were Mormons and I Baptist ... saw similarities between the two and a few differences... but didn't understand much more than God loved me... so it was "instrumental" and it did make an impression though... many songs from that era caused me to question more than bring any real answers.

I am hearing tracks from this album other than the singles for the very first time. I've always been curious about this album, and man, what a revelation of their talent. All kinds of influences here, and I laugh at the comparison someone made of Wayne to Jimmy Page, because there are clearly some moments of Led Zep influence here. This would have been considered a classic album by the mainstream had MGM released one of these hard-edged tracks. The decision to go back to the pre-"Crazy Horses" sound and release "Going Home" trashed their momentum of changing from a boy band to a BAND. Then, MGM doubles down on that by releasing "Let Me In". Beautiful as this ballad is (it's probably my all-time favorite Osmonds track), it stood no chance with a record-buying public that now knew the Osmonds could do much more than dance and sing bubblegum. This is some amazing work. I was a casual fan, but in the last few days I have discovered so much more of what these guys were about. Utmost respect.

After the teeny bop image!!! Because this album didn’t go as planned and was shot down by the radio DJ’s, they went on to do build the state of the art tv studio in Utah. When someone stole all their money, they sold it and went back out on the road to pay off everyone they owed money to, with out filling for bankruptcy. How many stars in the past 40 years would do that??? I knew I was a fan of the greatest group ever in 1969!!!

I realized they could really play when I saw a performance of My Drum from the Phase III album, but still just thought of them as an "act". I recall Dick Clark saying this was like their Sgt. Pepper album. Indeed it was. Bonafide genius. It seems, though, that they turned back into an act after this album. Nothing wrong with that, but The Plan is an unsung masterpiece.

CoolODaddyO I think that, at the time, their fans didn't understand it, and those who *would have appreciated it* didn't bother to listen. As a result, it didn't do as well as their more commercial albums and their management and record company wanted them to do something else. Then the D&M show came along and the brothers' careers wound up on the sidelines.

@ CooloDaddyO, The reason it didn't go much farther was the Donnie & Marie show started. The band had to work behind the scenes for the show which kept them from going forward with their singing careers. The Donnie & Marie show was just an act and the brothers had to fill in at times for the show. In truth, Merrill, Jay and Wayne didn't want to quit the band. It was either move forward as a brothers band or support the Donnie & Marie show. In truth, their father made them feel quilty if they didn't think of the two younger siblings. So sad when you realize the D&M show was just a fad compared to the brothers opportunity to remain a band throughout the years. They lost a lot of memorable music they would have made and we fans lost what could have been. @ lae21, their fans did understand their music. It was the younger fans that were Donnie's age that enjoyed the teenybop music. The rest of the fans were growing up with the older brothers and like them, the fans were growing into the rock music. @ MandyMcNuff, their music was brilliant. The best part was, after the teenybop music, the brothers were actually writing their own music. The Plan was all about their writings. This medley was part of the commercial for the album and like you stated, the D&M show ended up taking presidence over their own careers as a band. The industry didn't like that they built their own studio. It took away some of the industries control. Also notice they ended up having 100 million stolen from them. The industry had a part in that as well. If you take away the industries control, you end up thrown out one way or another.

As an entire album, I think I like Crazy Horses a little more. But I think "Let Me In" is the greatest song they ever wrote.

Alan and Merrill doing coreography while Wayne plays and starts to sing may be the greatest live Osmond thing I've seen.

I often played *The Plan* throughout my teenage years, when I shared a room with my younger brother, because I loved the music. My younger brother eventually converted to LDS, and remains a member to this day.

Todd Butler; they are Christians, same as the denominations and Catholics. The name of their church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mormon is a nickname because of their book, the Book of Mormon, which is a second withness to Jesus Christ. So their are similarities among all of the Christian churches. They consider their music their mission and they live their beliefs. It's what makes them the good musicians as well as the good people people that they are.

AMAZING find !Great to see LIVE performances of this material.Never believe I'd see something like this. Now that the Cds are released, how 'bout a more extensive DVD compilation of live stuff from the 1970's, and/or Remastered Cds with bonus tracks...Are you Up There?
