Cards like 'Aphotic Wisps' won't let you draw a card if Horobi is on the battlefield. Due to Horobi's ability the creature will die before the spell resolves, causing the spell to counter itself upon 'resolution'. Once you target a creature with any spell or ability, that creature is gone and the spell loses its target. Cantrips doesn't work with Horobi's ability. EDIT: Equipments doesn't work as well due to the same explanation above. Equipping a creature with a skullclamp, for example, will just kill the creature without letting you draw any cards.
@4rc1z010 жыл бұрын
Targeting creatures while horobi is out means that ability usually doesn't resolve as the target gets destroyed just before. This means necroskitter+blowfly would never chain to wipe the board for example, or that aphotic wisps cannot both destroy and draw a card. Unhallowed pact is not instant creature steal, it is either used as usual, or kills the creature before enchanting it. I found that strategies relying on counters being placed are counter-synergistic with horobi

Well, my day has been greatly brightened by the sight of this. The video was quite well done...Though it is true that Consumptive Goo and the tokens from Skirk Ridge Exhumer provide a -1/-1 drain and not -1/-1 counters. I also feel like a right loon, however. I hadn't any idea the problems with Aphotic Wisps, Unhallowed Pact, and Glistening Oil and quite frankly I feel rather embarrassed I failed to notice these issues until now. Thankfully a friend of mine had some wonderful suggestions to replace those three cards. Yixlid Jailer (my personal favorite zombie), Zombie Trailblazer, and Touch of Darkness. Again, thank you all for this opportunity, especially TopAndGoProductions. Continue on with your great work.

Hehe. I also built a Horobi deck with the extent purpose of slowing down the Voltron builds that had been showing up at my local card shop. It focuses mostly on the "Target X, Y Happens" aspect, clearing the way for Horobi to chip in w/ that Commander Damage. Playing him in a 4- or 5-player game is hilarious as well. Things get very political once everyone suddenly has access to kill spells.

reminder: use cauldron of souls on the opponents creatures instead of your own when Horobi is on the battlefield!

Remember, a spell or ability that targets creatures will get countered when Horobi is in play. So no Cantrips, Glistening Oil would not be in play when it goes to the graveyard on cast, Sorin doesn't gain you life, etc.

Oona, Queen of the Fae; I've never been quite clear on the unique purpose of mill as compared to burn (For the win condition), reanimation, or thievery (For the parasitic aspect). I'm curios to hear your take on the advantage of mill. Plus, I don't think we've seen a dedicated mill deck on this show before.

Necroskitter with a well-timed BSZ basically says "Nice creatures you have over there. It'd be a shame if something were to...happen to them..." EDIT: Also noticed there's an infinite kill combo with Hex Parasite, Horobi, and Sangromancer. I change my vote to Ruric Thar.

Love Horobi + Glistening Oil. Does Oil really hit the battlefield though? Or is it's target dead by the time it would? Just want to double-check the ruling on that. :) Tally up a vote for Ruric Thar!
@WatermelonCarver10 жыл бұрын
Sadly, I don't think glistening oil works that way. You place it onto the stack, then Horobi triggers, then Horobi's trigger resolves, then glistening oil goes to try to resolve and finds no legal targets, going directly from the stack to the graveyard.

I get a pretty strong impression that many rules intricacies are not fully understood by the deck creator here...the biggest one being that if you kill something by casting a spell/activating an ability targeting it with Horobi in play the spell/ability is effectively countered and does nothing. Aphotic Wisps won't draw you a card, Glistening Oil won't return to your hand (it was never on the battlefield), and Unhallowed Pact won't return the creature to the battlefield under your control, to name a few.

this deck needs more mana-rock for its curve, also horobi will die alot which means you need the mana to continually recast him
@quasimofo894410 жыл бұрын
I must disagree. I am quite careful when I play Horobi to maximize the use I get out of it before someone manages to hit it. It's also worth considering most spells that would be used to hit Horobi would have done the job anyway. Finally, I've found Sheoldred, Mikaeus, Crypt Ghast, and the Urborg/Coffer team work brilliantly to keep Horobi in play quite often.
@olivermeloche204210 жыл бұрын
Quasi Mofo fair enough, I guess I wasn't putting skill into the equation, but I personally find that running 7 mana bombs like Sheoldred without consistent forms of acceleration tight on your curve and Mana. It can be hard to keep up with green decks if they are ramping and you are not.
@Gimpocalypse10 жыл бұрын
Oliver Meloche I actually think a green deck would have a rough time against this. All that ramping is worthless if he's just gonna blast away every fatty that hits the board. Though it might be worth having just a liiiiittle bit more "mana stuffs". Maybe like an Extraplanar Lens?

We assumed the audience knew that we were assuming that Horobi was not in the field when you played those cards, since Horobi won't be out 100% of the time.
@StevelorLichington10 жыл бұрын
No, the cards actually did not put -1/-1 counters. They had effects that simply gave -1/-1. Consumptive goo at 3:45 is one of those creatures. It does not put -1/-1 Counters it instead gives -1/-1 until end of turn. You do it 2 or 3 more times in the video.

I can't believe this is the top video for Horobi decks with so much misinformation. Even the first interaction he mentions is wrong because Aphotic Whisps will fizzle with no legal target. Unhallowed Pact's ability also fizzles without giving you the creature and using Cauldron of Souls on your own creatures will wipe your own board. I love this general but make sure you know how his interactions play out before investing in the deck.

Although some of the interactions didn't make sense, like the unhallowed pact or glistening oil w/Horobi down. Still, I liked the deck very much. I vote for Oona. I'm guessing she'll be control/mill as she can seriously drop little annoying faeries on a near constant basis. Great video and I look forward to seeing the next one.
