Chloe and I used to have specific Reading Days where we'd go to each other's place with the sole intent of sitting quietly and reading, breaking only to chat through a passage or ask if the other wanted food. They were glorious. I don't know why we ever stopped. I'm very glad you're taking time for you in any way possible, huzzah

I spent my birthday reading an entire book (AART) and then going out for dinner with friends, and I'm pretty sure that I've just started the perfect birthday tradition for me. I think I'd forgotten too, just how much reading can quiet my many worries.

Its so nice to hear from you again, especially after just listening to your episode of Dear Hank and John (only took a 150 episodes for you to appear in it :P). I am on a semester exchange in Sweden, which has been a big change. There are so many exhilarating things about being over here, but that doesn't change the lonliness at times and disconnection from everyone back home.

I had a rather long summer of not doing too much and I read a lot of books and it was wonderful but now school started again and I already notice how much I miss reading for an hour or so at a time. I still read every morning on the train and when I go back home and I need that time and it's very important to me. I'm not really going anywhere with this but... yeah, reading is so important to me and I love that I have carved certain times that are only reserved for reading because I don't want to miss out on so many amazing books.

My Aunty always made my cousins get out waay more books from the library than they could read, as a form of support. I asked her about it a few years ago and she said you "had to play the game". So I love by that - playing the game and getting too much out

That does sound like a dream! I can't really remember the last time I read a book for fun or relaxation or enjoyment, which is really sad. I used to love reading and every now and then I buy books because they seem amazing but the bookshelf fills up and the time never seems to present itself to actually take the time to read. It is one of my goals for this autumn to set aside a couple of hours eveery week so I can get back into reading again!

I don't have something really deep to add, but I definitely feel you on the healing effect that comes from taking a large block of time to get completely emersed in a book and letting it take you away! There's nothing better. Also, your hair colour is really lovely in this, it looks so rich and healthy :)

I've recently moved house - and my commute is much shorter. Therefore my lovely daily 40 minutes of reading on the train to Waterloo has vanished. Since then, I've really struggled to set aside uninterruptible time for reading (before you ask, I fall asleep if I try and read in bed). Anyone have any tips for ensuring that you set aside time for sustained reading?

I've been struggling with this exact thing so I don't have any special advice. I went from ~45 min each way down to ~20 min last month, which has been great for my life but bad for my reading. I do like to read on my lunch break at work, which isn't the most social thing, but I enjoy it a lot and it is somewhat "scheduled reading time".

So nice to have a video from you again! I hope to get back into the habit of reading. I have at least 30 books waiting and AART on the way (the delivery company lost the first copy), but I realised a few days ago at least one of the reasons I haven’t really been reading and it’s my worsening eyesight. Coupled with the rainy gloomy weather and days getting shorter I had a few bad mental health days after that realisation. But I decided to try to read more, see how it goes and then maybe switch to audiobooks.

I (sort of) re-discovered my love of just reading when I started AART. It took me 3 days to read (which used to be a long time for me to read just one book) but left me so refreshed and more ready to face my life. I missed just spending a few hours outside of myself and hope I will remember to read more fiction.

So many faces I have missed returning! This is great. So good to see you! I have missed your face. :) I'm in grad school and trying to balance it with work. So far so good, still adjusting. I need to make some dedicated time to reading.

It's lovely to see you, and I'm glad you're finding some time for yourself. There's some liberation in realising that you don't have time for everything you want to do. I've had this habit of saving the stuff I really want to do for later, after less important things have been gotten out of the way. I'm increasingly realising that that is some bs, and actually just doing the things I really want to do first.

I'm so glad to see you back and hear about your life! I've been re-reading the Harry Potter books while listening to Harry Potter and the Sacred Text for the first time (Currently I've finished re-reading PoA and am working through Season 3 of the pod to 'catch up') and it's such a joy. As much as I love Harry Potter, I'm not much of a re-reader, so this is my first concerted re-read of the whole series and was my first ever re-read of less beloved instalments (Chamber of Secrets, for me, and upcoming, Goblet and HBP). It's really shaking up my brain in an interesting way. I've also hit a point in my life where everything has fallen into place for me to find a physical practice that I really love - it took, in retrospect, a certain amount of time, money, location, comfort in myself, inspiration, understanding of my gender expression, and the technical details of my wardrobe, but I've really fallen in love with an aerial/circus gym in the last few weeks and working on that and seeing improvement has had a profound impact on my mental health. It felt like it came out of nowhere but I'm so glad it did.

Hey stranger, long time no see! Both reading for 6 hours in a row and taking out more books than you can read from the library remind me of my childhood. Summer was certainly a thing this year, I could have done without some of the super hot days that's for sure. I have got a bunch of creative projects I have abandoned part completed that I should really do something with. It is very hard for me to find motivation when there is no clear end goal or pay off for something. Looking forward to seeing move videos some time in the future. Stay well!

I've had a weird hard but good summer as well. The more I talk to people lately the more it feels like it's being going around. So this summer I went to Amsterdam by myself. It was only for a few days, but it was the first time I've taken a trip abroad on my own, the first time I've been on a plane on my own, the first time getting through an airport alone (far and away the most stressful part of the entire experience!). Surrounding that my brother has been unwell, - which is not unusual but no less stressful for that - my work situation is ridiculously up in the air and it seems like everyone I know is either going through a breakup or something else differently painful. I had a similar being nice to myself realisation. I think the real challenge is to continue giving yourself that grace once the immediate catastrophe is dealt with - or in a quiet phase, depending on your particular situation. I'm always happy when one of your videos pops up in the feed. Keep taking care of yourself. Lots of love x

I felt very similarly when I was reading AART this last week. Being in grad school and being a mom and keeping up with the varying sides of the news on my Twitter and just doing all the things, I’ve been so wrapped up that I hadn’t had the uninterrupted moments to read I would’ve liked. With An Absolutely Remarkable Thing coming out that I was excited for, my husband was excited I had a book and helped lots so I could relax and read. Such a wonderful clarifying feeling for my soul. A lot like you said Rosianna! What books are you reading now Rosianna? What books are you reading now other commenters? Any other books you finished over the summer? OOH! How about a video about books you’ve read this year so far? Not anything too long but just a list of the books and a sentence of why you liked/didn’t like it? Just a thought 😊 it’s so nice to see and hear from you again!

Yay, happy to see you back here. :) Your video resonates with me so much! I got married last month and especially the days before and right after the celebration were exhausting, physically, mentally and emotionally. So at some point I just laid in bed and started reading, and I was finally able to truly immerse myself in a book again and find inner calmness; it was so great. And it reminded me what a fundamental thing reading can be. It can be so consuming in the best of ways and in that way help one connect with oneself.

I feel this especially when I'm rereading something that I already know I love. It's even more comforting and fulfilling for my brain to get lost in that for hours on end. If I'm reading something new and discovering it for the first time, I'm more inclined to spread it out over shorter reading periods. Also, hi, it's so good to see you again.

My commute was 1,5 hours each way (living at home meant being without debt and we get a ticket from the uni )and often I used the time to read the papers I was supposed to read in preparation but on the way back I read my books.
