In another part of the recording, Brain said they tried like 10 other times before this, and they all were unsuccessful. Stating that “they weren’t home alone.” And “the parents came home.” Then he talked about how the stars aligned because Cassie was going to be home alone the upcoming weekend. No parents, no one to interrupt the act. They didn’t care who it was. Cassie just happened to be the perfect target, because they knew ahead of time she would be home. Remember, they were like “Cassie is our friend, but we all have to make sacrifices.” Just total disregard for human life. Not just Cassie’s, but all human life in general.

Before committing this crime, he was fantasying and planning a school mass shooting Columbi style but he didn't access to gun at that time. I believe that many lives got saved because he committed this crime and got arrested first. Who knows, if he got away, we may have heard his name from a worse crime, mass shooting. How would you like it if someone stretched you out a little bit and some douche bag came out and said well they were just 16 year olds you need to open your mind because they’ve changed their life around and you know what maybe they should get out early for being fine upstanding citizens while in prison, it’s amazing how fear in prison will change two little killers minds in regards to how they think, but that doesn’t mean they need to be let out early. @@savinabees9220 The fact the OP comment has 44 likes and this comment has zero, says it all. We don’t know if it takes anything away from the victim. It very well could, but they aren’t here, so how do we know? Also, I’m sure it takes a lot away from the victim’s family. Which is most important. If it causes psychological torment to the victim’s family knowing that this guy is “growing,” and becoming rehabilitated, then this is a problem. It is not about him. Stop making it about him. I don’t believe he is entitled to cause the families any more torment. He is lucky to be breathing, and it should be left at that. He should keep the growth stuff to himself. I thought this would be a lot more interesting than it was, but to be blunt, you're a terrible interviewer. I wasn't expecting 30 minutes of "interview" consisting of you mainly gushing like a schoolgirl over how "cool" this or that is. Nothing is cool about life in prison and it's not supposed to be. Of course Brian has grown up a lot. 16 or so years will do that. But that doesn't change the fact that Cassie never got the chance to do the same. He took her life in a sick violent way and her family continues to suffer for it. You were right about one thing, it's not fair. But what's not fair that he gets to live and Cassie doesn't. I think you should seek therapy instead of prison calls with murderers.

They then went upstairs where they stabbed her 30+ times with 12 of those being fatal. After that evening watching a movie with the girl and her boyfriend and pretending to have to leave. They left the basement door unlocked when they left. So they could come back. Sorry. Her nor Torey can be rehabilitated. They would have been serial killers in my opinion. They had a thirst for blood. How dare you defend this monster. He's not human. He did more than 1 things. People make mistakes. But this was planned and calculated. A permanent mistake. So basically what is missing from his understanding, the lesson he has yet to learn.. He is not in prison now in order to learn a lesson that will somehow grant him his freedom back. He is in there as punishment for his crime. He took the life of Cassie in cold blood, premeditatedly, with full intention, planned it for days literally. he took something that didn't belong to him, something that was not his to take. And he now have to pay for his crime, with something of equivalent value to that which he stole, namely a life. That's how the penalty system works, and the reason why he got a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Him regretting his actions now doesn't matter one bit. Cassie will not come back, Cassie's family will never have peace, and Brian is only done paying for his crime the day he dies in prison, and only then. Just as Cassie bled to death on the floor with 29 stabs wounds in a dark house, with two psychopaths laughing and cheering as her life slowly left her body and her screams turned to silence. Justice must be served for Cassie, a debt must be payed, and the payment has to be of equivalent value. And this is not an eye for an eye at all. For that to be the case he would have had to be sentenced to death by stabbing, which is a horrifically terrible slow death. Luckily for Brian the court of law is much more humane than he himself was.

The fact your trying humanize a person who hid in the basement of a friends house and scared her on purpose before they brutally murdered makes you just as bad as them. It’s easy for y’all to like murders because y’all ain’t had y’all people murdered. My 17 year old brother was murdered when I was 15 shot 6 times for nothing through the heart head eye chest are. Believe it or not he didn’t die instantly he opened the door and asked for help first. Before a friend came over and said Brandon stay up. He tried but he knew he was dying he shock his head before his eyes rolled back. He wa just going out to have a good time. He was in the car driving his cousin home and the guy wanted to kill his cousin. My brother didn’t do anything nothing. The guy killed them both. As brutal as that crime was and as fucked up as it was it wasn’t nearly as bad as this. I’ve lost more friends to gun violence than I can remember and not one of them was a cruel as this crime. Some of them them were flashes of anger and they all deserve to die for them crimes idk idk idk. You take a life your deserves to be taken. Again this is worse. They thought it out for months then after they laughed about it. This guy said it made his duck hard thinking about it. I was 15 16 17 and my mom was an alcoholic my brother had got murdered I never had a dad I didn’t know where my next meal was coming from some nights and yet I never once wanted to kill innocent people. I wanted to do something to the guy who killed my brother I knew if I did I’d spent the the rest of my life in prison to. Age isn’t an excuse your a idiot. I hope one day you get one these animals in your presence and get to feel what their victims felt the terror the pain the fear the why the what not knowing what’s on the other side while your in your final moments. But before you do I hope you get to feel the pain my mother felt of having her kid of having her kid murdered only seconds after talking to him on the phone saying he’s heading home. I hope you get to feel what it’s like losing a brother the only one who understands you the only one you can talk to in the family the one that speaks for you when your scared to speak the one who fights for you when your scared to fight the one you lifts you up and tells you it’s going be ok. I’m sorry you experienced that but humanizing people is okay and you’re projecting your pain onto people who don’t deserve it. Would you berate the correctional counselor who helps prisoners too? Some people believe prison is for rehabilitation even if someone is in for life because we are all human and conversations like this help us understand the mindset someone was in and how they may have changed over time. It’s valuable stuff for sociologists and psychologists and social scientists. I’m saddened about your brother, and I hope you find peace 💜

You’re likely overthinking it. It’s fun to think that there’s a juicy reason for every little thing people do, but we tend to choose terms/phrases arbitrarily and then stick with them. And if Brian _is_ consciously referring to Cassie as “my victim,” that seems like a way of _taking_ accountability, not avoiding it (or whatever you’re implying). Torey probably calls her “Cassie” instead, because, the way he sees it, she’s not actually _his_ victim; she’s BRIAN’S victim.

It is not unfair that he is in jail for life. It is very much fair. Him being in prison until he dies, is justice. I do believe he seems somewhat reformed and normal now compared to when he was 16. He is a completely different person even. But I never view prison or jail as being about reform. It’s not about that. It’s about justice. An eye for an eye if you will. The Stoddart family lost a teenager, the Draper family should loose one as well. If you look at how the justice system was formed back in like the Wild West times, families would take justice into their own hands. One person’s brother would get killed. Then the other family would kill in retaliation. Then another retaliation would occur, and back and forth it went. The justice system was formed so that a neutral 3rd party would come in and settle the feud, and put a stop to it all. The only way that can happen, is if the killers were brought to justice. On both sides. Killers were either hanged, or sentenced to life in prison. Something that the opposing family would be satisfied with. That way the retaliations would end, and the feud stops. In this case though, the Stoddard family did nothing wrong. They are totally innocent. For the sake of the Stoddard family, he should never leave prison. Imagine if it was your brother or sister that got killed. It doesn’t matter that he was a senseless teenager. Justice is justice. I would not be entirely opposed to the death sentence in this case. Not because I believe Draper is some awful disgusting monster. He is a regular human being. Just like you, just like me. But again, justice is justice. He should never be allowed to move on from this. Just like the Leslie Van Houten case in the Manson murders. I do not believe she should be released. Is she still a danger to society after all these years? Most likely not. Is she genuinely reformed? Probably. Possibly. Again, it isn’t about that. It’s about justice for their victims. And more importantly, the victim’s family. He should never be allowed to leave prison.

Many things can change a persons trajectory in life. This is not that. Imagine Jeffery Dahmer getting caught after his first kill. Would that be Oh this was a one time crime. No he would still have a bloodlust in him. Catching someone like these two early does not change who they are. It simply stops them from what they want to do from a primal need. Torey was brainwashed by his parents, that he was " The guilty innocent" ( The book, written later by his mom), but they both wanted and they both committed that awful crime. They destroyed their families and Cassie's family. The show "Lost for Life" was made only 5 years after the murder, so no one knows, how would Torey be answering now, 11 years later. Brian was the one who stabbed Cassie, Brian bragged about that in their self made video and Brian was the one, who turned against Torey first by lying-in his whole confession. 90 % of the people with life sentences regret their actions after spending years/decades in jail , but unfortunately it's too late. To sum it up : They were both guilty and they both deserve to be exactly where they are now!

Their brains weren’t fully formed at the time of the crime. If society wants to kill them to even the score, that’s one thing, but if we’re keeping them alive, there’s no reason not to review their statuses after 25, 30, or even 45 years. Just bc parole is an option doesn’t mean they’ll get it. Torey and his parents haven’t learned a single thing to this day, but Brian seems completely transformed. Probably bc his brain is fully formed. Even with a fully formed brain, I agree with you that Torey has been brainwashed by his parents who are incapable of accepting what their son did. If Brian’s a low risk for reoffending and can contribute positively to society, I’d rather not have my tax dollars wasted on him. Prisons are overcrowded enough. There are people who have killed multiple times when they were older than 25, as well as sexually assaulted their victims, who haven’t even gotten LWOP. If anyone should, it’s people like them. This case is a tragedy for Cassie, Brian, and Torey, and all 3 families. Of course Cassie and her family were the true victims but Brian and Torey were immature idiot kids that ruined their lives and took hers bc they had no concept of how permanent their actions would be. I get it, you’d think they’d be old enough to understand the gravity of what they did, but the part of the brain that controls impulse and the ability to predict the long term consequences of their actions is what forms last. But I’m assuming you know that, Dr. Dora. “The last part of the brain to fully develop is the prefrontal cortex. The brain finishes developing and maturing in the mid-to-late 20s. The part of the brain behind the forehead, called the prefrontal cortex, is one of the last parts to mature. This area is responsible for skills like planning, prioritizing, and making good decisions.” Yeah welp, we know those weren’t their strong suits. Btw, 2 different kinds of knives were used on Cassie, Torey stabbed her too. Brian may have believed he doled out the final blow, but Torey wasn’t just an innocent bystander. He orchestrated the whole thing. The whole “Scream-inspired murder” was his idea.

They dont end up enjoying stabbing their classmate to death though. He makes no mention of his actions and his desire to do it as being immoral, evil, sick and so wrong. why did you kill cassie ? and why did you think it was ok to lie about it ? (If you have any questions for him please leave them in the comments)

He said why in the video. Multiple reasons, he wanted to be noticed and to be talked about and got inspiration from the columbine shooters. Im so glad torey wasn’t into that or else they probably would have teamed up and purchased guns to shoot up the school. Still tho rip cassie

@@heckatomb Well, the Columbine killers were losers just like them so that’s something they have in common. Cassie had so many goals and it’s a shame and sad how she died in comparison to how she lived.

I don't understand how we can declare sentencing a juvenile to life without parole unconstitutional, but leave a loophole that we can charge juveniles as adults. That being said, I do agree with one of the commenters who said the only reason they stopped is because they got caught. I think they both would have kept going and he would have never made the change that he has apparently made. In that sense, Cassie saved his life. I believe his rehabilitation is genuine but rehabilitation is not the only issue. There is also the issue of punishment which the family deserves to see carried out. Until he's dead? I don't know that that's fair. I don't know anyone who is anything remotely like who they were when they were 16. It's kinda shitty that we all know so much about Brian and Tori but we know NOTHING about Cassie. She should be the one in the spotlight.

I am glad he said he is emotionally & physically willing to take responsibility for his actions but I dont know how someone can repay killing anyone not in self defense:-( I Really Hate wat he did, I wouldn’t do that to a cricket if I could help it!!!!!! I can’t fathom following through with killing a friend, is this what Ted Bundy would sound like if he was still alive?

Hey just wanna say thankyou for sharing this ive been fascinated with this case for a long time since theres so much footage out there interrogations documentaries etc and it was a shocking crime that probably would have never happened if brian never got in with torey and vice verser but they kinda fed off each other...both being into horror movies columbine and serial killers just led them down a drak and twisted track, but he seems to have accepted responsibility for what he did and is making the most out of a very bad situation we all do dumb shit as teenagers dont we spured on by peer pressure so im sure it must play on his mind alot, alot of should haves would haves and could haves im sure

@teresanoel4035 probably says victim because saying her name might bring all that messed up past back probably part of his programmes of reform etc obviously not making excuses for what they did because it was a horrible cruel crime but he's paying for it now

Thanks for sharing this interview. I'd love to hear more from Brian. He's one of the few people that committed a serious crime and genuinely has remorse and has learned something from his mistake. He's also trying to make the best of his life in prison and that's admirable. I'd like to know exactly what happened that night. Did they both stab Cassie? Does he still talk to Torey? What would he tell his 16 year old self today? Does he believe in God? Afterlife?

How does someone send Brian books or cards? Do you just send them to the prison with his name and/or inmate number?
