It's normal for some Thais to refuse tips, especially outside the tourist zones. Many are proud of putting forth honest work for fair pay. Some view tips as charity, or something akin to alms for beggars. To some extent, it's part of the "saving face" of Thai culture.

This is so much like New York City was back in the day, which is probably why I loved it so much when I was there in the late '60s. Stick with Gary, he'll put you on to the real deal, and he and I both fear that all this will be gone in a decade or so. Just subscribed, so keep up the vlogs.

The tower block housing reminds me of HK action movie flick set, Was just waiting for the gangs with huge chopping knives to race out. Yeah never went too through in Chinatown even going on a local tour of the area of the markets is only a small fraction of it. Looking to do a more Indepth walk around on the next trip to Thailand.

Was hanging out almost exclusively in that part of Bangkok during my first month. Super rewarding. At that time National Stadium was as far as the BTS took you and then it was bus stuck in traffic from there on. Now it's so easy to get to. Some great hidden bars around there too.

A few years ago we had a condo behind Phuket central, one day I was really crook and my now wife ordered me a soup, can’t remember the name atm but had like everything from inside a pig, I was into the hong thong a little bit 😂she thought she was tricking me… again.. but it was pretty bloody obvious lol but it was really nice especially the broth.. and made me feel heaps better ❤

Next time you're in the Sam Yot area, check out Nightingale Olympic department store, the oldest department store in Bangkok. It's like stepping back in time. Very bizarre place. They don't like you to take pictures so you'll have to do it in stealth mode.
