Isayama never planned to create Floch, but he realised he needed someone to represent the view of people who weren't in the main friend group; the choice to save Armin over Erwen would make no sense to them.

On my second re-watch where I started to get all the foreshadowing and hints etc. and later on Floch - I think also he is a very interesting character, his side of view of things is basicallly most ppl think which are not part of our main cast of characters.

Eren wasn't reading the titan's memory by touching, he just told the obvious, every titan there was a patriot being punished by the marleyans. It just shows how the situation changed, Eren used to scream that he would kill all the titans in season 1, now he just pity them, there's not a little bit of will to kill titans anymore.

This episode perfectly captures the main motto of the series. "This world is cruel but so beautiful." The absolute beauty of the reclamation of wall Maria. People get to finally go home after all this time and rebuild what they lost. The scouts finally leaving the walls again after 6 years. The beauty of the untouched nature. The trees, the birds, the skies. The sea. The beauty of Armin getting to fulfill the first step of his dream. That glow in his eyes he has that makes him unlike any other. The beauty of discovery. Of learning. Of friendship and sharing special moments with the people closest to you. And then there is cruelty. The cruelty of war. The cruelty of the Marleyans transforming people into monsters against their will. Stealing their lives. The cruelty of what their existence outside the walls means for the Eldians. The hardships yet to come from this conflict. Eren, despite being surrounded by loved ones being alone in this moment. Realizing the very thing he fought so hard for was real, and being unable to celebrate because of his knowledge of the past His knowledge of the future. Hoping and praying with every step that reality is different from what he has seen, yet every step just confirms it more and more. The questions of what is freedom, really? What does that look like in this cruel world. He wants it so desperately, he needs it, and yet he doesn't know why. He can't even explain what it is. All he knows is the steps he needs to take from here and he is disgusted by them. And yet he will do them anyway. The cruel isolation of a terrible burden he is forced to bear alone. Not being able to share this beautiful and joyful moment with the people he loves. All for an innate longing of a dream he doesn't even know is his to begin with. A slave to freedom. How very cruel.

When I saw this for the first time, the reaction of Eren seeing the sea in 1:07:52 it broke my heart. Everyone else is amazed, but Eren is, yeah, it's exactly as I saw it in my father's memories, where I also saw the death of my people.

The scene of Eren kissing Historia's hand confused me the first time I saw it in the manga. I thought "why would Eren make that shocked face? He's already seen all those things during the Reiss arc". Only in the Marley arc did it all make sense. Also, when this episode dropped, Annie had not yet returned in the manga (J&J finished the series so this isn't spoilers for them). But when they showed the shell in the credits for this episode, that was confirmation for me that she's coming back. That's Armin holding the shell while talking to Annie in her crystal. The credits shot was basically saying to manga readers "hey, she's sill relevant". That's the only reason why they would've put that shot over anything else.

37:46 -- When Keith Shadis was telling his story about meeting Grisha, he said that he had met Grisha 20 years before, but regarding the fact that at most 13 years could have passed from the moment Keith met Grisha till the moment Eren inherited Grisha's titan, it coudn't have been 20 years, but 18 years at most. _(13 + 5)_ Keith simply rounded 18 years to 20.

For every other character it's exciting, seeing all this stuff outside their walls and this sea they've never seen before. For everyone except Eren. While they're counting on his memories with excitement, this entire time he's hoping his memories are false. Because Armin's books always gave him hope that once they're out of the walls they can have complete freedom in a world devoid of conflict and fighting and violence. But his father's memories completely smashed that idea, and this episode keeps driving that point home. As Eren realizes all of his father's memories are completely true, he faces the crushing truth that they haven't escaped their prison. They've just stepped into a bigger one. There is no freedom on the other side of the sea. There is no freedom for him and his people anywhere. Everyone outside of the island has a hatred for his people and their history and their nature as Subjects of Ymir. On the other side of the sea, are enemies.

I don't know if any of the patreons mentioned it (which they definitely should have), but Eren's titan is actually called "Shingeki no Kyojin" in Japanese, which also is the very title of the anime itself in Japanese. It's just in the English translation these two don't match up. I didn't make this comment on the previous episode because I was hoping the patrons would clear that up but since I didn't see such comment from any of the patreons, imma just put it here. It's so fascinating and I do hope someone mentioned it in the latter episodes.

5:27 -- Regarding Kruger/Owl: some viewers might not think about it, but note that his first encounter with Grisha takes place about 2 years before he becomes The Attack Titan. A clarification about the timeline -- Grisha is: --- 12 years old when his sister gets killed _(Presumably, based on his appearance and behavior. Hajime Isayama is otherwise very good at depicting the ages of characters convincingly, even if the anime itself was sometimes adapting that aspect badly, particularly in the episode 1x03.)_ --- 18 years old when he becomes a restorationist --- 20 years old when when his son Zeke is born --- 27 years old when he and Dina get arrested So, Kruger must have become a titan when Grisha was about 14 years old.

There's so many points to be made on this episode that everything in the episode is important. But I will leave only this, are when was looking towards the basement. Armin was looking to the Sea. At the beginning of the episode Eren was only looking at the wall Eldians were kicked off. Once at the sea, he was looking beyond the sea, at a sea of people who want the Island dead. Very important question we're left with, if they all die, will we be finally be free? The "outside" has already invaded once, attacked 4 times annihilating the fleet every time. And declared they wanted the island dead. Opinion?......🤷

It showed Grisha's face !!! i.e. He saw Grisha directly. It's Grisha's memories or PoV, how could he be seeing Grisha's face if Grisha isn't in front of a mirror. (Notice when Eren saw this memory first time in the underground chapel, his memories didn't show Grisha's face, it was seen only once but as the reflection of Pure Titan Eren's eyes) Meaning, that shot of PoV is something Grisha possesses in his memory from a third person PoV, and we know at the end who that third person is...

i can't count how many times i watch this series. even so, i still can't bear to hear the disappointment in eren's voice upon realizing what's beyond the sea: their enemies. if only one of them, including armin, noticed that eren was already considering k*lling those enemies for them to be finally free, eren could still be convinced to change his mind that time and consider other options. that was the very moment eren started to drift away from armin, mikasa and the others.

5:29 If Eren Krueger truly proved himself as a spy, then so did Bertholdt, Annie and Reiner. You were cursing out Bertholdt and Reiner as miserable *traitors* after 2x06. But they were spies, *just the same* as Eren Krueger. A traitor is when somebody who was actually on your side later betrays you. Benedict Arnold is the classic example. Annie, Bertholdt and Reiner were never on the side of the Eldians on Paradis. Just as Eren Krueger was never on the side of Marley after they burned his parents alive in front of him. Grisha's father was mostly likely not a spy because he tried to raise Grisha and Zeke as loyal Eldians. BTW, Grisha was 100% a spy. It's unlikely he really had amnesiac style memory loss when Hannes found him outside the walls of Zhiganshima. He faked memory loss because he knew nothing about life on the inside.

Day 38 of spreading the faith in our Lord, The Fool 🙏. Hope you two check out the trailers for Lord of The Mysteries, a chinese anime(donghua) coming out next year. The rest of the comment is a small glimpse of why you should watch it as it is one of the greatest webnovels ever written and it even joined the national library of China earlier this year with how big it is over there. With the way you like to analyze everything you will love it as the biggest charm of it is unraveling mysteries and how things work. Absolute masterpiece of a story even though the first arc is off-putting for a lot of people since it's setting up the base for the entire world with alot of informations given to us. It's going as far as setting up a real currency and political system for every countries. We got confirmation that every episode will be more than 30 minutes long with at least 12 episodes for 5 seasons confirmed which would translate to half of the book (volume 4/5 out of 8) It has one of the greatest power systems in anything I've seen/heard of and changes genres throughout time. We got more than 10 pathways each starting from sequence 9 then sequence 8 etc with each of them having different abilities and needing a ritual to go to the next level. The fun fact here is that the higher you go, the more likely you are to become insane, so people that are your teammates today will become horrible monsters tomorrow. It starts off as a mystery/horror/police thing as we follow a team of policemen tasked to destroy evil beings in their city and it expands much more into an epic/horror/historical tale that knows no bounds. The secondary characters are very memorable since we get their point of views for a while from time to time. The main character uses his cheat to act as a god and make his own cult which becomes the main cast. The antagonists are TERRIFYING and bully the others throughout the whole show (they're here since episode 1 lol) Definitely recommend reading at least the first volume before the anime comes out.
