There is a chance that Otto might not have bad luck, but he might be misunderstanding having insanely high luck. The best fate he could have had, might be finding Subaru and so events in his life aligned so that was possible. The reason he keeps finding Subaru is very simple. He's going out of his way to specifically find Subaru. Otto is a merchant and they tend to follow things or people they find interesting. Subaru might be the only person he's found interesting before because he doesn't operate by the same rules everyone else does. That's why no matter what timeline or death Subaru is on in a timeline he always meets Otto. Otto always has the same goals and no matter Subaru's alignment he will always be interesting to Otto. Subaru flat out uses knowledge from a futuristic world than Re Zero takes place in. Merchants take interest in knowledge and unique viewpoints. Now for Pandora. Pandora is so powerful that she seems to be flat out omnipotent. She has knowledge she shouldn't have in events she was not there for. She seems to have some degree of future sight that leads her actions to begin with. However, if she ever did have to appear to Subaru. Her actual real form would be the most effective way to do it. She probably has ways she can turn off her instant kill abilities so that shouldn't really be incentive for her not to. Subaru was a hardcore otaku and pretty girls have always been an incentive for everything else he's ever done in the story. Pandora could conceal all the information she wants. That is if she ever needed to. She doesn't need to. She could be there right now flat out watching his entire story unfold. You can't even perceive her unless she wants you to. I doubt most magic would even work on her. She's in fact so powerful I believe she is the main antagonist of the entire story. She has the best power in the entire series for gathering information. The theory doesn't make sense from the perspective that Pandora literally has nothing to gain for being related to Otto at all. She's too powerful to care about manipulating anyone. Unless she has something to gain from it. She's extremely efficient. She doesn't do anything unless it has a high payoff. When she does manipulate others for a high payoff it is generally extremely op beings that are usually related to the witches cult. I'd think a better theory would be is Subaru being influenced by Pandora. He has ties to the witches cult close enough that he can literally be possessed by Petelgeuse. At the point Subaru is now he literally has the qualities to become an equivalent to a witch. My personal 2 theories are. The beginning of the story is in the future and his memory is erased. He's already lived a long time in this world and his memories were erased for some reason. Also that Subaru is the Arch Bishop of Envy. The reasons I think this is just because the beginning is similar to what happens in Danganronpa. xD Also that it literally makes no sense for Subaru to be important or have anything to do with the Witch of Envy without being something like an Archbishop. I'm an anime only so if I do happen to be right about something it's not a spoiler. xD

He was brought to that world about 18 years ago and she is about 18 years old. There must be another connection that we won't know until some point in the bigger story. Maybe her birth triggered his teleporting to that world or maybe he gave birth to her... ;P idk really, but there is some deeper connection there for sure. He can't be that unlucky to be teleported to another world just to be tortured over and over. Maybe she's Pride in disguise and could tell he had some power... Maybe it's just me wanting to believe there is a reason for all his suffering and he wasn't just brought there and abandoned for no reason... but hopefully Arc 7 will sort it out.

I don't think Priscilla can be Pride. Tappei said that people can't have both an authority and a divine protection, and Priscilla has the divine protection of the sun. Also, Sirius also thinks Priscilla seems like she could be Pride, and asks her about it, and Priscilla is pretty repulsed by and dismissive of the idea. Not in an 'I am but I'm hiding it/I am but I've renounced the witch cult' way, but in an 'I'd never even thought of it before' kind of way. I think Al could be pride, for sure, and that would be why he understands Priscilla, who is about the most prideful character there is, but she herself can't have an authority. It's kinda like how scarfdona understands Anastasia well and gets along with her, when Anastasia is the most classically 'greedy' character.

Hasn't Tappei hyped the Otto-mystery quite a bit? It would feel a bit too simple if it were a "Pandora did it"-thing.. I would rather think that Pandora or Echidna/BoW has some connection to him, but rather that they would use him in a similar manner to like people try to use Subaru. Why he doesn't show up in the gospel might be a way that Echidna set up Roswaal to fail - so a question is whether Otto would show up in the real book of wisdom or not... The idea that Otto would mirror Hoshin is quite cool.. X3

I don't think he has really hyped it - he said that Otto was a character where, if there was going to be a big reveal about him, it would have to be really big, because he's already revealed his past, kinda thing, not really saying that there even was a mystery there but not ruling it out either. Otto was a character who in his earlier plans wasn't intended to be a major character (like Rem) but that changed as he kept developing the story, so I think it's unlikely there are any big end game mysteries that will involve Otto bombshells, but who knows!

I don't think that Otto is Pandora; however, I do think that Otto and Subaru are fated to meet with one another. The real mystery in my opinion is WHY Subaru and Otto are fated to meet one another. Personally, I think it's because Subaru's life would be way different if he never met Otto, and to prevent this, meeting Otto became part of Subaru's fate. Of course it could be some other reason that has yet to be revealed; however, this is just my theory.

Before watching the video i have to say that i never liked this theory, in the sense that i think it invalidates one of the important lessons from arc 4: That while you need to have confidence in yourself, you should also rely on your friends and the people you care about sometimes too. I think Otto embodies this concept better than any other character, because he is the one that pulls Subaru out of his unwinnable situation by offering friendship to him. And the possibility of Otto being fake all along makes it all feel... wrong, for lack of better words. Or perhaps i am too attached emotionally to that lesson to think that Otto could be fake and it could be a great plot twist, idk.

Yeah, I agree with you (which is one of the points in the video) - it is too important in Subaru's character arc for Otto to be sincere for that to be sacrificed for a twist. There are no shortages of twists in Re:Zero or cool ideas Tappei has, so I don't think he'd resort to wiping out something important just for a surprise.

I think that everything that goes on in the show seems to be for a reason, and it is confirmed there are several characters putting events into motion, in my mind it is fairly likely that he coming into contact with Otto is not by chance, just like Subarus love for Emilia, which feels pretty unnatural, it is like he is wired to love her no matter what. It is completely irrational nonsense, so I believe he is being compelled down this path, by either the which or some other unknown force.

personally, I think Otto's fated meetings with Subaru was entirely because of Otto's bad luck. Who brings more bad luck into the world than Subaru? He is the ultimate bad luck charm. However, Subaru also has a skill for turning bad luck into good luck and opportunities. Which is exactly what Otto has been needing for his character development. On top of which, in Arc five Otto legitimate wonders to himself, "why did I ever get involved with Subaru? why do I want to go so far out of my way to back him up?" *paraphrasing* So there couldn't be that kind of connection between Otto and Pandora when Otto is helping Subaru of his own occurred. He's confused about it, but he's still willing to do it.

Otto is not Pandora but he is not just some random merchant either. Otto Suwen has the Divine Protection of Soul Language and I believe all those with a Divine Protection has some connection that links them all together and that is why we see him. That is why we see Patrasche. It's why we see Reinhard and Volcanica....

Uh, so arc 5 spoiler warning Otto goes out to find ashes from Book of wisdom that Ram destroyed, which he doesn't know is a thing that exists. Nobody told him about that, not a single line of dialogue about Roswaal's crazy dedication to the book was shared with Otto. So yeah during the Great Hare attack while Ram and Roswaal are nearly dying comatose and Subaru, Beatrice and Emilia are fighting for their lives, Garf, Fredrica, Petra, and Rem are fleeing the Mansion, Otto is sweeping up ashes of a book. Sorry that is a little suspicious. Like he's a great character, but he's often shady as all hell especially when he's using the highest level magic spells casually. Like there's a reason Otto, Al, Priscilla, and Reinhard are offscreen for the first climax of Arc 5 to sow doubt when pretty much every witch cultist was in the same city.

Pandora objective IS in link with Emilia Subaru is one of the main character which IS very important for Emilia Otto IS a major character in the subaru development like rem. Arc 6 spoiler !!!!! Tappei said that in arc 6, Rem don't wake up by Ley death, Subaru and rem have been teleported, the witch and volcanica attacked the tower or may be someone. Who IS the main treath for volcanica and satella? It's probably Pandora and she IS the only one character that can teleport another character. So with what we know, Pandora is interested by subaru, remember who are the mains characters in subaru development which seems perfects? Otto and Rem... This IS just a theory, because we don't know yet the motivations of Pandora..... but it's seems that rem and probably Otto are importants Characters for Pandora.

I can see what this has to do with Rem, but not really Otto. I just don't think that every person important to Subaru's development is automatically connected to Pandora just because Pandora is interested in Emilia and Subaru supports Emilia. It just seems too convoluted - why wouldn't she be more interested in the person who first connected with Emilia after her time in the forest - Roswaal - rather than a merchant who shows up months later? Rem is connected to both Emilia and the oni, which are both things Pandora seems interested in (assuming she controls the witch cult), but Otto... I really just think he is what he seems to be. I think it was Volcanica rather than Pandora that teleported them at the end of arc 6, to protect them from the WoE (Pandora may be the only regular person that can teleport people around, but Volcanica is a god, and we don't know that they have simply been teleported to a normal place - they could well be somewhere beyond the waterfall or in place beyond space and time like Echidna's dream sanctuary or the hall of memories).

The thing with that is, there are loads of characters with names from mythology, but given the conventions used, it seems more likely that Tappei chose them for their use in astronomy, rather than their connection to the myths themselves. All of the witches for instance have mythological names (except Satella, whose name's meaning is a mystery that will turn out to be important according to Tappei - I have a video about theories on that), but they aren't consistent from that perspective, with most of them being Greek but Minerva being Roman. However, when you consider that they are all also names of bodies in the asteroid belt, that makes them consistent - just as the sin archbishops all have star names. But, since all we really know about Pandora is she really wants to open a sealed thing, well, it's hard not to think the Pandora's Box story comes into Tappei's thinking with her at least!

Even if I don't think Otto is Pandora, but I always doubted Otto since the arc 3. Witch cultists never took anyone alive. Never. Why would Otto be special? Why would they capture him alive? It never made sense to me and never will. Petelgeuse and his fingers would simply slaughter him in place. Otto was an acquaintance with a merchant member, Ketty, the one who was a witch cult member, the one who introduced Otto to Subaru, the one who blew himself in a carriage. Then there is Otto's strong strive to approach Roswaal, then his attempt to piece together Roswaal's copy of the tome of Wisdom behind Subaru's back. Even now I can't overlook the fact that Petelgeuse didn't kill him instantly. There is a possibility that Otto is a witch cult member, just like Faust, Sado and Fogg, for example.

Yeah, the channels who have had strikes are all disputing them, but it's a bit of a weird time. I don't have any strikes myself (I think my avatar being over the top stops their AI detecting I use clips and images, but that's just a theory and I wouldn't want to count on it), but a lot of my friends do and it's scary - they are all channels with analysis and reviews and stuff, not people just posting clips or episodes in a shady way.

I mostly agree, but still, find him very sus. He just happens to be there whenever the story needs him making him a little too much of a deus ex machina when the rest of the Story doesn't have any inclinations to it. Moreover, as an anime-only, I never got how he could get captured this easily by the witch cult on one hand and on the other be asked to hold off Garfield and he was just _yeah sure..._ It's almost as if he was two different people in one. One cowardly merchant with bad luck and one smart, cunning badass. Speaking of cunning, it's also worth pointing out that how he won against Rosewaal without even knowing about return by death or many other important details is quite noteworthy. Him being a bigger threat than Reinhard in one of the If-routes hammers that point home. He really is either smurfing for the most part, or he has two sides. PS: I really find your voice soothing.

On a related note: I can't wrap my head around how Echidna and Rosewaal influenced the beginning of the story getting Subaru where they wanted him. I don't see any hints as you would see in Higurashi, where the first season is a mystery and the second a resolution.

Too much is unknown about Pandora and we don't even know if her being active like that is even a thing with her. 1. Idk why, that's the point of the video haha. 2. In Rem's case, it would have been to create a twin for Ram, who was to be the reincarnation of the oni God. Because twins were killed at birth as a rule by the oni, this should have gotten rid of Ram. We know the witch cult is connected to Pandora, and we know they tried again to get rid of the oni when Rem and Ram's village was attacked, so tbh, I think that theory makes way more sense because there is a motive there. 3. We have no idea if she's interested in Subaru, but she is definitely interested in Emilia.

@@NatalieXHunter 2. That makes sense. I knew she was part of/behind the Witch cult, and I know about why the village was attacked, but considering how things 'actually' went down... yeah, I dunno. It just feels too roundabout and risky if the point was to wipe out a potential Oni God, that ultimately failed. I just don't buy it.3. Too many weurdos are interested in Emilia... which sucks for Subaru. Oh but, speaking of Emilia... S2 episodes 14 and 15 eerily remined me of something Satella said about why she fell in love with Subaru. Namely, the time they spent together and the way she described it played out scarily close to what actually happened in those 2 episodes. Prolly a coincidence, but very little in this story seems to ever be 'just coincidence'. Plus, the way crazy Emilia acts... isn't really all that different from Satella's current, non Witch of Envy, persona. At the very least, similarities are there enough to give you pause. Plus, Subaru's reaction to actually meeting Satella was.... not normal, especially since it was outright shown that she literally didn't do anything but talk to him. I mean, I don't necessarily think that Satella is Emilia, but their connections are definitely deep. Well, it'd be hilarious if Emilia were a 'reset Satella' though, rather than being a straight up clone or something. The irony alone would make me laugh pretty hard to be honest. But then, the Witch of Envy murdering herself in a fit of jealous rage is pretty par the course for top tier Yanderes. The White Queen from Bloodsigh even murdered at least half a dozen versions of herself right 8n front of our poor MC. But, as for the string of... something gu8ding ppl along in general, namely with respect to Subaru and Co's lives? Why not. We know for a fact that Satella gave Subaru Return by Death, that Rem literally shouldn't exist and be dead, and that Otto isn't in Roswaal's Gospel. Another Witch or power screwing around behind the scenes is pretty normal, but I just have my doubts of any 'direct' meddling. Even Echidna rarely actively does anything, shy of the IF routes... but, y'know.

Did the attempt to get rid of the oni god fail? Ram doesn't have her horn, after all, and its possible that even her prodigy state as a child would have been more powerful if she hadn't been a twin and had had two horns. She was nerfed, and that could be the thing - to someone evil, maybe it would seem like Ram won't be a problem now, but what if Ram can become strong again purely because of a) friendship (Subaru's Cor Leonis) - that's always the one thing evil characters never predict - and b) her synesthesia with Rem. Ironically, the fact she was given a twin, which should have been the end of her, was what enabled her to reach her potential even when her horn was gone. I mean, obviously it would also kinda be because of Roswaal, but that makes it less poetic.

Honestly, if some idea is so out of it, it might be best to not draw attention to it. Videos attempting to debunk dumb ideas implicitly say "well, you almost had a point but you missed this counterpoint that undermines it" when it's best to imply "no you don't have any idea what you're talking about" At least the Subaru= Flugel theory could go either way based on currently known information.

Well, I think it's interesting to talk about just why, from a story point of view, theories like this would actually make the story worse, rather than better. I don't mind at all that theories come out that are (in my opinion) really unlikely to be true, it's still people putting thought into the story, and tbh, there is nothing from a purely logical standpoint that does debunk this one (because we know so little about Pandora, just about anything involving her can be possible). That's why I think it's interesting to consider it from a storytelling standpoint, and how it would affect things that are important to Tappei in the story he is working on. Unlike real life, stories tend not to work when they're too random and chaotic, and so once a theme is established or a character is put on a certain path in terms of the lessons they're going to learn, that won't usually be undermined just so some random but interesting stuff can happen. I think that's interesting to think about.

Yeah the coma theory is the usual theory there is for every story ever that none of it is really happening and Subaru has been in a coma since leaving the convenience store, dreaming the whole thing. The thing is, that kind of theory can be interesting when it adds something to how we understand the story (like that theory that everything that happens in Harry Potter after he gets his Hogwarts letter is actually about a kid who's lost his mind retreating into a fantasy world of his own imagining to cope with the abusive upbringing), but with Re:Zero it's just the usual lazy 'what if it's all just a dream' thing, and isn't even interesting to think about.

I never said he didn't have his blessing from birth - all divine protections are from birth. I just said he awakened to being able to understand what the animals were saying when he was 10, rather than just hearing a load of messy noise, and in the anime at least this was depicted as a very sudden thing, where he could suddenly understand the bugs.
