And you think they dont have budgetary constraints now ? Lol...where do you live ? Everything is double as expensive nowadays, so you can bet your own ass its way worse now then it was 5 years ago...for a company, and with the inflated taxes ? With the world politicians getting greedier and greedier and more corrupt by the millisecond ? The world population doing nothing just taking it like a champ up their ass ? Letting them steal everything we have ? Dont get your hopes up, I only wish Outer Worlds 2 will be as good as OW1. At least that, Obsidian should try to achieve, then mission accomplished.

Outer Worlds wonderfully delivered on its premise. It wasn't built to be an infinite sandbox of possibilities like Skyrim or Fallout. It was built to be a puzzlebox that hands you a swiss army knife. It has two, maybe three playthrough's worth of content if you really rinse it out, but the point is about giving the player the tools to approach the game entirely as they choose. If you don't want to kill anyone, you can do that. If you want to kill everyone you run into, that works too. Extreme examples, but furthermore, whether you choose melee, stealth, guns, science weapons, speech, leadership, solo or an actual idiot as a playstyle, you can finish the game without ever being demanded to compromise from your chosen style. Maybe the person who sells you the navkey really annoys you and you don't want to help her. Sneak behind her and steal the navkey from the safe instead of working out a deal. You can take over Edgewater with a robot army if you want to! The game wants you to play it your way and it's wonderful.

It’s a fun game full of possibilities but Obsidian had no clue how to design fun, engaging combat. Enemies might as well be made of butter and you never feel threatened, which drains any sense of tension or challenge. It’s so easy it’s as if you’re playing with cheats on, and there’s no excuse for that.

@bizmonkey007
@bizmonkey007 Жыл бұрын
@@the5thmusketeer215 There are, but the issue is that it feels like the devs had no clue about how to balance the combat and overall difficulty. If you want a typical Normal mode sort of challenge for example, with peaks and valleys of hard sections and easy sections, you’re not going to get that, even if you play on Hard. I can’t speak for Super Nova, the hardest difficulty I believe, but I think that just makes enemies super tanky and introduces Perma Death and survival mechanics.

8:02 that's what I thought: having all traits help you in combat in some way is such a good decision. I hate it when RPGs have specific endings that require a certain persuasion/charisma/whatever you wanna call it, but focusing on non combat skills to achieve them only makes the gameplay less enjoyable.

Good 10 minutes review. Subscribed. I think that there are also more negatives aspect to this game, the world itself feels cheap, and melee weapons were no fun at all. After playing the game 4 times ( my go to smooth talking run, genocide run, low intelligence run and super nova run) and I still love it. But I do have issues with it I would like to see resolved in the sequel. 1. The leveling was way too lenient and by the end of the game you were practically a god who was great at everything. 2. The gun play is serviceable but the AI and enemy variety was very bad. Most of the enemy's either just rushed you or ran for cover to then shoot you very basic. And most of the enemy's were either Canids, Marauders, Raptadons, Primals or Mechanicals. 3. The dialog while very well written was very almost like a rubber band. I would make a different choice in dialog and I think I would be getting new dialog but I would get a new snippet then it would rubber band back to the default response. 4. Choices felt very hollow, if I helped one side I would still be able to help the other. There were no real consequences to my actions. It was like if I was in one part of the world the others didn't exist. And most major choice boiled down to help one side or the other or compromise and everyone is happy. There were no real gut wrenching decisions. 5. The NPCs were not very dynamic and felt like old Morrowind characters. They just stand in place waiting for you to come by and give them a reason to exist. Those are my main problems but most can be fixed with proper time and budget. Hopefully obsidian has learned from the outer worlds and we can see their growth in Avowed. And even more so in The outer worlds 2.

I wanted to like this game so badly, but I tried an int and charisma build like i normally do in rpgs and every enemy became a bullet sponge, it was a huge pain. Weird that you mention enemies running with high persuasion. Is that something they added later? I don't think i ever had that happen.

I finally got to play it last month and I absolutely loved it, but unfortunately the main story was really short. Even with doing some side quests, I only got to about 25 hours play time. I've got a mixed opinion on Outer Worlds. It's not as good as FNV and I feel it's lacking in a few areas such as lacking a lockpicking mini-game (might be due to copyright) and the guns felt like I had to pick up a new gun for every stage of the game. Dealing x amount of damage with numbers popping up on screen. I really loved the Iconoclast story arc, but otherwise I don't remember much else. My overall experience was positive but a little disappointed.

Good review! I’m 20 hours into my first playthrough. I’ve completed the main and all side quests for Terra 2 and Monarch. Hate to say but the quests are incredibly boring with all kinds of political faction fetch quests that do little to make me care. I hope that changes soon. However, where this game wins for me is in at least two areas - First, interesting and even hilarious characters and dialogue, like you said, especially in your party. Dark witty humor, a la Guardians of the Galaxy. Other games like this have included a lot of corny or silly humor, but this game went into fifth gear with the dark and even mean humor, and I eat that right up. The personality of these characters is way more appealing than anything in Bethesda‘s games. Second, graphics are better than the trailer showed in my opinion.

IMHO, Outer Worlds is damn near a masterpiece and better than Starfield in several aspects. The ironic thing is Microsoft (mega corporation) owns them. That said, hopefully Microsoft gives them the time and resources to make Outer World 2 even better. That Obsidian documentary revealed Avowed was going to be multiplayer but Microsoft allowed them to ditch that feature and focus on what makes Obsidian does best, Award-winning single player games.

is this gameplay from the spacers choice edition or the original?
@AmateurGameReview

Just the regular editions. It’s a mix of gameplay between my PC and Series X. The Spacer’s Choice Edition does update the graphics, but the publisher changed some things without the original developers input. Mostly, they added a ton of neon signs…

You should drop a new video on this game to take advantage of the current hype because being free on epic. Cause a lot of people probably sort videos by a recent ish time frame when they want to check something out.

I think the biggest mistake the Outer Worlds made and anyone can make playing this game, is comparing it to FNV. It's more like a CRPG, but first person (and having the name fallout drop during marketing) people (myself included) wanted this to be like FNV. Though it can take a while for games to take hold, for the hype to die down and to gain a fresh perspective. It's an awesome game and I knew I'd enjoy it eventually and I'm glad I'm here now.
@AmateurGameReview

It does have more in common with a CRPG. Good comparison! Can’t wait to play Avowed and Outer Worlds 2!

I'm not sure why the age of a game should hold any barring on if a game is "still" good or not, I will still go back to WWF No Mercy on the N64 as one of the best beat em up games of all time, and Super Mario 3 is still to this day one of my all time favorite video games. If a game held up when you first played it, then it still holds up today. Minus graphics, at which point you should just buy a painting if you want something beautiful to look at.
@AmateurGameReview

I think different eras hold up better than others. Nes snes genesis and even into the PS1 N64 era hold up remarkably better than more recent games. I have a harder time convincing myself to play something from the 360 or even the PS4..... That being said. How dare you like no mercy more than wcw now world tour????? Hahahah

I couldn't agree more about being burnt out on sprawling "mega" games. I want something I can finish in a few weeks and feel satisfied.
@AmateurGameReview
@AmateurGameReview Жыл бұрын
My main complaint with these mega open worlds is that there’s very little to do. Take Assassin’s Creed for instance; I think it’s amazing that they can recreate Egypt or Greece… but if all you have is empty land with the occasional basic fetch quest, what’s the point?

A few years ago I tried playing Skyrim, and didn’t end up liking it, though that was 100% for subjective reasons. Finished this game last night. It was freaking amazing. So much fun and the writing was brilliant and hilarious. I loved the characters and it had a more nuanced look at a revolution than many other stories. (Phineas is my fav character, love the man.) So many dialogue options too! I legitimately do not understand how people can say this game is bad. But hey, I didn’t like Skyrim, so what do I know lol

YES SIR The Outer Worlds is my absolute favorite game of all time (I have yet to play Fallout New Vegas though, so that might change). I played the game over the summer last year, and it's been the only video game I've ever played to genuinely make me cry. I felt so connected with the characters and the stuff so many of them were going though, and I felt that my choices in the game reflected my values in real life, and that was a very special experience for me. Also, peril on gorgon made me SOB, running through that dlc was, I think, the best and one of the most impactful parts of the game. Seriously couldn't recommend this game enough, I'm thinking about running through it again with a different build and character so I can see the other parts of the story i missed the first time.

I think once I got the most overpowered build for every category and all separate endings, I called it. Couldn't be asked to achievement hunt, but I damn near completed everything it had to offer. It was a neat game, while it lasted, and that's not to discredit it, because it actually had a lot more endings than what I asked of FO3/4 and Skyrim. Maybe I should sample some soundtracks.

I feel like I am the only one that absolutely hates the environmen/level design in this game and how many things don't make sense here. It really boils my veins and I couldn't finish the game because of it... twice
@frostreaper1607
@frostreaper1607 Жыл бұрын
Not just the lvl design, the universe of Outer Worlds is apparently populated with women who multiply asexually as the ratio between genders feels like its a 10/90%, and yes the 90% is female. I've been playing 10 hours and the amount of male NPC's I've had a conversation with can be counted on one hand. Its 4. Every single leader, except for the Edgewater 'mayor', is a female, its truly bizarre. Engineers, heads of security, rebel leaders, everyone is a woman, with the same face lol. If they had done a 50/50 it would have been great, but this is just too obviously staged.

Have been thinking of writing my first review ever since nearing the end of my play through with Atlas Fallen. Being that “perfectly casual/intermediate RPG” game I’ve been itching for. You were mentioning in the start how the outer worlds is but not too big. I’m on 23 hours in Atlas fallen; with I’d say 70-80% completing everything and exploring as I go. I remember loving OW when I played through it for that exact reason. Same with the Metro series. RPGs and/or story games that are open world but not exhausting to even think about playing, yet still leave room for experimentation. Anyway, whoever reads this, Atlas fallen is awesome, if it interests you go for it. I think it’s worth the 60$ I spent.
