as a type 1 diabetic, people taking diabetic medication when they do not need it seriously pisses me off. I feel horrible for type 2 diabetics that are unable to get the medication they need. Diabetes is incredibly serious and life threatening when left untreated. Just like taking diabetic medication when you're not diabetic is life threatening, and will probably cause many negative side effects.

The drug is licensed for obesity, therefore people who are taking it with obesity (not celebs who are not obese) are taking it for a genuine reason. It's not the same as insulin. Yes, taking insulin when your body already produces it is dangerous but taking a GLP-1 agonist is not going to cause the same harm. For many people with obesity they are often pre-diabetic (insulin resistant) which is one of the reasons they struggle with weightloss. The side effects experienced by people taking GLP-1 for type 2 or obesity experience are the same because the mechanism doesn't magically change. Our body naturally triggers these receptors in our bodies but not effectively for people with type 2 or obesity. Hair loss shouldn't happen - this is because people are malnourished and now not eating enough. The same reason for the muscle loss. That happens due to not exercising to keep muscles. Vomiting also shouldn't happen. A lot of people jump to the high doses when not being monitored. If your side effects are severe to the point of constant vomiting, then the dose needs lowering. People who have suffered gastroporesis had warning signs but they ignored them because they weren't being monitored properly/too focused on weight loss.
@KateyMoseley6 ай бұрын
@@raeraebadfingers And here in is the problem - people calling obese people lazy. Firstly, I think you have the wrong idea about what the jab is doing - it doesn't increase metabolism. So they should absolutely check their thyroid anyway because if the weight is caused by the thyroid, the jab wouldn't do anything. The jab reduces people's appetite and regulates insulin and glucose levels. This inturn allows people to eat less without the cravings and re-learn the problematic eating habits they have learned from being obese. Your body is already addicted to sugar and fat so you're very likely to relapse back to those foods without the proper support. Additionally, when you are obese, exercise becomes harder because you have more weight to move when you are exercising. Also once you have those fat cells present in your body - you have them for life. When they get to the end of their life cycle, like other cells, they get replaced. So unlike someone who doesn't have a large amount of adipocytes, gaining weight happens quicker because they already have the cells ready to store fat. Also worth pointing out that disorders of the thyroid are not the only condition which affects weight. PCOS, diabetes, depression (due to psychology and lack of exercise) and menopause are just some but then certain medications can also cause weight gain. I imagine you would never say to someone with MH "oh they are just lazy" so I'm not sure why people say the same about obese people who are genuinely trying to make a better change to their life. If GLP-1 agonists work and don't cause them issues, what is the problem? They are not taking them from type 2 patients because they were licensed for this purpose. The issue is the companies not making a proper stock even though anyone could have predicted their popularity.

I'm also considering it for the weight loss benefits, I am not diabetic. I'm concerned I'll gain it all back because I'm not willing to change my entire diet forever lol. Making some changes is one thing, but it seems that if I have to change my entire diet to function on the medicine, once I get off I run the risk of regaining the weight due to not persisting with the ozempic diet. I reckon everyone is different and all I can do is try. I was just curious if it effects someone with diabetes differently than those of us that aren't diabetic. ETA : I got sick and was bedridden 4 months (pancreatitis) , couldn't eat . They wanted a feeding tube but it kept falling out . They sent me home with Ensure shakes so on good days I drank one . Got down to 90lbs (5'1") and i looked HORRIBLE . It was ironic bc during my ED I wanted to be under 100lbs , but when I finally was , I hated the way I looked . Just bones , not at all attractive . Completely agree. Insulin/glucagon balance is NOT something you want to experiment with all in an attempt to lose a bit of weight. Ozempic is a GLP1 agonist (glucagon like peptide). Glucagon triggers the release of stored energy into the bloodstream, whereas insulin takes sugars, etc in the blodstream and pulls it into the cells for storage. Wildly disregulated blood sugar can be a game ender. The levels of GLP1 that Ozempic is mimicking in healthy, non diabetics is supraphisiological (at least as I understand it. All of this post is from memory, so please excuse errors and misunderstanding). I believe the gastroparesis side effect is the paralysis of the digestive system like you would get in a state of fight or flight when you need to release a ton of stored energy into the bloodstream for use. Major sympathetic nervous system activation (which may be related to the anxiety side effect of ozempic). This is in comparison to a parasympathetic 'rest and digest' state where nutrients are broken down and absorbed in the digestive tract, shuttled through the bloodstream, and moved into cells for storage, repair, etc. Just a hypothesis, but I suspect the 'ozempic face' isn't just a result of rapid weight loss but is also caused by excessive and prolonged stress (plus the elevated levels of stress hormones like cortisol which cause inflammation and break down of healthy tissues). Weight loss does not equal fat loss. It also includes the break down of muscle, collagen, etc. Also, you are not absorbing the nutrients needed for tissue repair and regeneration (digestive tract is paralyzed...gastroparesis). This starvation style weightloss that occurs under heightened stress will make someone appear to age rapidly (healthy fat, collagen, etc in the face is broken down resulting in sunken eyes, sagging skin, grey coloring, etc). It is not a healthy look. Skinny does not equal healthy. There is also some evidence showing ozempic use is linked to higher rates of thyroid cancer, inflammation of pancreas and gallbladder, an inability to properly digest food after the drug is stopped. Just think of the health complications of having partially digested and rotting food sitting in the intestines for days on end. I believe this is where you get a risk of infection, sepsis, etc especially if the immune system is already compromised from being in what the body believes to be a state of heightened and sustained stress coupled with starvation. Totally expect those class action lawsuit commercials in a few years asking 'have you or a loved one suffered irreversible health complications from ozempic? Just call 1-800...'

Hey there! I work in a pharmacy on the East side of the United States. I can confirm that Ozempic in ALL strengths has been on a massive backorder from my company and others. I have seen so many people become extremely agitated at either the drive-thru window or at the front registers because Ozempic isn't in stock as well as other semaglutide medications (Wegovy, Zepbound, Monjauro, etc.). I have had a man throw a lit CIGARETTE at me at the drive-thru because of it. Y'all. This medication is meant for type 2 diabetics. That is why it is so hard for insurances to pay for it and why many people shouldn't be purely getting it for weight loss. The regular dieting and exercise works wonders for those who do not struggle with pre-existing conditions that inhibit the ability to lose weight. It's a matter of changing your lifestyle. Please, take care of yourselves, our bodies are not cars, we cannot simply repair them like machines.
@waynek8055 ай бұрын
No offense, but I find it quite alarming how apparently poorly informed someone who works in a pharmacy is on this topic. Firstly, semaglutide is the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy (sold by Novo Nordisk) while the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound (sold by Eli Lilly) is called tirzepatide. Second, while the drugs are primarily intended to treat type 2 diabetes, BOTH are FDA approved to treat obesity in non diabetics. This is why there is a second brand name for both. Wegovy and Zepbound are the weight loss brand name for the respective drugs in the weight loss indication. Of course, the FDA is a totally morally bankrupt organization, and the 'approval' of these drugs to treat weight loss in non diabetics is an abomination. But that is a discussion for another day.

@MeepsfordaysBoi6 ай бұрын
I’d like to mention that, although it’s not usually used like this, some people who are using ozempic for weight loss also need it. I have a friend who was overweight to the point where she was diagnosed with liver disease. As a result, she needed to lose weight as fast as possible in order to ensure she would be able to live a comfortable life. Obviously most people who are using ozempic (at least, on TikTok lol) are using it for no reason whatsoever, but some who are using it for weight loss genuinely *need* it.
@MeepsfordaysBoi6 ай бұрын
Also, I forgot to mention something. Another reason why my friend is taking ozempic is because, even with lots of exercise and healthy eating, she can’t lose enough weight. She has trouble losing weight, that’s also why she needed ozempic. She also tried other weight loss medication and it didn’t work for her.
@tajakjejtam6 ай бұрын
I think the issue are people who are quite normal in size but want to be size 0 with no effort. Like the family eating the Christmas dinner in this video at 02:59. Two of the women look a bit heavier but definetly are not drastically overweight, and one of them already looks quite skinny. Yet all of them are on ozempic, at least if you believe the video.
@Dinyo555 ай бұрын
She is on it for life... Because she is lazy??? Okay.
@MeepsfordaysBoi5 ай бұрын
@@Dinyo55 She's not lazy, some people have different hereditary diseases/issues. When these issues arise, they can cause a majority of things, including easier weight gain/slow metabolism. Also, you have to understand that this medicine is confirmed to be used as a weight loss drug, so it's not like she's using it when she shouldn't. It was prescribed to her by her bariatric, even. My friend has been exercising, eating healthier, etc, alongside taking the medicine. She is far from lazy; if anything, she seems more motivated and hard-working than the majority of us lol. With the medicine (alongside her exercise and whatnot), she has been able to lose over 127 pounds within 2 years. I would like to mention that she only used the medicine for 2 weeks, so it isn't like she was taking it anymore than was needed. If being used for weight loss, you aren't even supposed to use it fulltime, only for a week or so. These younger teens in the video are most likely using it far more than is needed (if at all), and they use it not because they genuinely need to lose weight, but because it's a trend.

I have type 2 & was given a variant of Ozempic, mine was a pill not a jab, and I'm REALLY glad about that because i took 1... Literally 1 and i had the worst night of my life. I was so sick, i thought i was about to die. No joke i was having major anxiety & panic attacks. i went to bed and could not get warm, i was shivering so bad. I was truly terrified, i was crying and afraid to turn off the light because i was going to die and i didn't want to die in the dark... I refused to take another, so i removed the pill from my meds tray. Then exactly a week later it happened again, i was sobbing and begging my husband not to call an ambulance, because i was so sick even he thought i was dying. Next day i wondered how it happened cos id not taken that medication... I had a realisation and checked my pill organiser and saw that I'd not removed ALL pills,only the first week. Since these two nights of hell, i still cannot lay down to sleep, i get major anxiety and feel like i will die if i lay down... Its been almost a year and i still have the panic attacks. Its so bad i cannot let my dentist lay me down too far, it's awful.

It's not the rich famous peoples fault this is happening. It's the DOCTORS prescribing it to them! You can't just buy this stuff without a prescription. Doctors should be held accountable, it's straight up malpractice.

Those doctors will literally do anything for the right prices. I can't even imagine how much celebrity doctors get paid under the table for stuff like this. On top of that, the company that makes the medication is purposely not making enough. It's like they just have to make things as hard as possible for diabetics. Either they over price it or keep them on a shortage of medicine they literally need to not fall into a diabetic coma. It's insane. All these people care about is money, not our health.

Yeah it SUCKS to have to change your lifestyle that you’re used to. But it sucks even more to stay in the same spot that made you unhappy in the first place.
