Pacey was hands down my favorite character! He was underappreciated, he was so caring and patient, and put up with so many people treating him like dirt, but he did it with a smile. He never lost his charm, he never stopped cracking jokes, he never lost his sarcasm. In every situation he pushed through, kept going, kept moving forward, after what he wanted. Pacey was such an inspiring character, and everyone needs a Pacey in their life.

After watching this entire series again from start to finish almost 20 years from when it started, it confirms the way the story played out. It's fairly clear if u watch the series closely there's a definitive evolution of Joey. Dawson evolved but not quite as much as Joey and Pacey the least. A lot of "DJ'ers" get hung up on K Williamson leaving after season 2 and the show become less "Dawson's Creek" and more like "Pacey & Joey's Creek". The reality is - it doesn't matter. We got what we got and I think that the show stayed true to its core in which was a love story between 3 people that was very well done. Joey clearly was the star of show and centerpiece (credit all goes to Katie Holmes). her development over the years seems to be very true to her character and realistic. in the end she finally realized after time gone by she was supposed to have both men in her life but Pacey was her true love. I don't see how anybody could say it should've been any other way.

honestly if her and dawson had ended up together it would have been shitty because they spent so many seasons being apart it was like they couldn't even stay together for 10 episodes without them breaking up I think season 2 is the only season they got together but then we have pacey and joey who had a lot of history development in season 3 and then in season 4 they were together for the whole season and yes people say they were toxic and they argued every episode but to me it just wasn't the right time to be together quoting pacey. "Even though the two of you may be right for each other it doesn't mean that your right for each other now" and I think at that moment pacey was stressed over dragging joey down and joey was stressed because she didn't want to be stuck in a small town they were always going to fall apart they both needed to mature and grow up before starting a relationship and eventually they did find their way back to one another they even had a few moments in season 6 where you could tell they both still had feelings for one another but again it was a terrible time to get together and then finally flashforwards 5 years and Joey was finally ready to stop running and choose what she wanted you know if you showed this series to someone and didn't give them the title of the show I think they would agree pacey and joey seemed like the main couple they had the most development the most painful I loves the whole longing from afar drama thing and the most iconic scenes ever and what did her and dawson have and now I am ranting hahahaha yea I now they were only doing the king Arthur esque them to draw people in but they did it to the point where it was like how could she love anyone else after what pacey had done for her

NattyJane u did ramble a bit 😂but you're right. You really have to watch the whole series twice to fully grasp it and it would help to do it several years after the first time. I watched the series when it was on and I was in 21 when it started. Now almost 40 and have matured and "grown up" it puts the show in a whole new light. As I said in my previous post, there's no question in my mind the show ended the right way. The scene that defined the entire series was the "you're off the hook" scene. Pacey let's her go but Joey said something that summed up the entire "tripod". She said her love for Dawson was pure and entirely innocent. She was able to separate the love of a best friend and of a lover. It's a tv show and in real life that's a much tougher task but I believe that she was true to her character and how she evolved over the years. The series was really "Joey's Creek" from about the 3rd season on and especially the last 2. A truly iconic series that I believe will only get more credit and accolades as the years go by.

in the original script for the last episode when they were having the your off the hook speech kevin Williams said originally he was going to have joey say that she loved pacey the way a woman loved a man but he felt if she said that then the audience would instantly know that joey chose pacey so he took it out although to be honest when joey said that the love she had for dawson was pure and eternally innocent that was kind of a huge dead giveaway that she was going to choose pacey anyways because when it comes to romantic love there is nothing innocent about it

NattyJane yes totally agree with you. As I said, Joey evolved the most by far and so for them to have her pick Dawson would pretty much go against her whole development. Although to be fair to DJ'ers, they could make the case that you always revert to your childhood. Everything was there with PJ. Chemistry, passion, real love. This has a lot to do with the actors as well. JJ and Katie definitely have chemistry on and off screen and it comes thru. It's really fun to watch all this again.

I LOVE this couple so much! They remain one of my favorite of all times. Joshua Jackson's acting was so amazing. He was the reason I tuned in every week after catching a rerun of the episode in which Pacey is defending Jack. I was rooting for Pacey and Joey from the beginning. ever since pacey and joeys first scene I knew they would be together there true love there love is strong pure and true and with dawson there was no chemistry it seemed like there was no love there and when dawson learned joey had feelings for pacey he tried to break them up and when he found out pacey and joey were together he told joey that they weren't friends and if she picked pacey there would be no going back and everything was ruined to me it seemed like dawson never really loved joey when joey picked pacey he acted like a 5 year old who had his favourite toy taken away from him I never liked dawson and I could never stand dawson and joey where as pacey and joeys love was true and pure and pacey loved joey for who she was he never tried to change joey and even after pacey broke up with joey and prom they never stopped loving each other and they never had a long lasting relationship I'm so glad in the end joey followed her heart and picked the man she truly loved the man who has always loved her pacey

The first scene of the series was in Dawson's room establishing their characters innocent brother/sister relationship that was changing yet in a way they were too close no true mystery, the second scene was the one of Pacey/Joey and establishing their characters love/hate relationship and how they had so much to explore to get to truly know each other, the third scene was of Jen's arrival and establishing her characters place on the show and with the group! Everything else in this show basically built from those three scenes! In the end if you really look at it the relationship that truly evolved the most was Pacey/Joey's because the beginning was all about how much they "hated" each other and the end was all about how much they "loved" each other! It really was a brilliant transformation from beginning to end! The writers may have never meant for the characters to be end game but the way they set up the beginning scenes they really eventually had to go there because there was so much more of a evolution they could take with Pacey/Joey than Dawson/Joey! The love/hate relationships are always so much more powerful and angsty! Season 2 they were intentionally kept apart and given separate love interests because they saw the actors chemistry from the very beginning especially after the snail hunting episode and didn't want the fans to experience it too soon! They always intended on putting the characters together but they didn't want to do it too soon in the series and felt like they needed to develop the characters individually first! The plan was to put them together cause angst and drama for Dawson/Joey and Pacey and then reunite Dawson/Joey in the end as endgame soulmates however the Pacey/Joey pairing was a huge ratings success and took on a life of its own forever changing the trajectory of the show!

No one ever talks about this, but in season 2 when Joey gets her fortune told the lady tells her that she will come to a fork in the road and will need to choose (Dawson or Pacey). The lady also tells her a handsome tall dark man will come into her life soon and in that same episode Pacey refers to himself as a tall dark man.

I love there characters. Pacey and Joey define, what a true relationship and love shoukd be. He cares, for her on such a humanistic level, does the most amazing things in life for her and she reaches out for him. When Dawson breaks down, you can tell, how much he wanted Joey, but Pacey stepped up first. You can feel the heartbreak, sorrow and loss for Dawson. Growing up, I was in my teens watching this show and as an adult the message is still the same. Its above love, family, loss, friendships, relationships, addictions, being there for each other. Reminds me of my ex in so many ways.

Seems a big hypocritical for Dawson to call the shots over Joey and Pacey when he got trodden on by and trod on Joey multiple times! He told Pacey that he was the BEST person to be with/friends with and look out for Joey. He got with Jen in season 1. He was obsessive about her and lost his virginity to her in season 5. He got with Eve in early season 3, didn't seem to care that Joey ended up dating AJ, then lost his shit when Pacey and Joey fell for each other even though he rejected Joey and didn't want them to get back together until he realised Joey wanted the BETTER man in Pacey! He threw them together by making Pacey the shoulder to lean on, so he could carry on seeing Eve! I mean... Dawson even FORGAVE JACK who made a move on Joey when he [Dawson] was still WITH her. Jack and Dawson became FRIENDS when Joey dumped Dawson for Jack! Joey was no better, don't get me wrong. But Dawson can't just suddenly decide to want Joey, after pretty much disappearing from her life entirely for most of season 3 so he could get his rocks off with Eve or kiss Jack's ex at a party, or befriend and run to Nikki for advice or to hang out with her and admire her when working on movie projects! Joey even said she didn't like that Dawson ran to Nikki with his problems after Joey had offered to be there for him. She said she hated that Dawson didn't ask about AJ. But then all of a sudden, a decent guy comes along that is GOOD FOR and GOOD WITH Joey, soneone she truly loves and wants to be with and Dawson forgives Joey but writes Pacey off BIG time even though Pacey was going to be honest about his feelings for Joey. If it hadn't been for Jen being a stirring big mouth and Joey STOPPING Pacey from doing the right thing? I think Dawson would have been hurt, but given the go ahead. So I personally think that Pacey was given the shit end of the stick there.

Time and time again, Pacey proved that he was the best character on Dawson's Creek. He deserved better than Tamara. He deserved better than Andie. He deserved the best leading lady. Pacey and Joey was one of the best romances on TV. The whole show couldve ended when they sailed off together.

THIS IS SO FREAKING AMAZING AND PERFECT! their journey & buildup was just beautiful and their relationship might've had conflicts and fights but that's normal, it's not all rainbows & butterflies all the time, but getting through the fighting is what makes a REAL relationship, they fight but they ALWAYS made up, their BEAUTIFUL, delena reminds me so much of them because their journey and buildup was beautiful and they fought a lot too but ALWAYS got through it, but yeah PJo was one of my very first ships, I shipped DJo too but every time I rewatch (I own s3-4 + the series finale disk) he makes me madder & madder! he rejected her and they weren't together and he acts like he could tell Joey what to do?? she ended it with pacey because of Dawson in 3x20! they didn't plan it or expect it to happen, they just fell IN LOVE. thank God they were ENDGAME, I know KW planned a DJo ending so I'M SO HAPPY it was changed lol PACEY & JOEY ARE ABSOLUTELY PERFECT TOGETHER. and they have some of the mist natural & effortless CHEMISTRY ever, DJo it felt a little forced t h.

Sara Kennedy Plus it would've been unrealistic for Joey and Pacey to not fight lmao Their entire relationship from the start was banter and little arguments so even though they did fall in love, they were still stubborn Joey and Pacey. Pacey was insecure and he might've gotten the girl in the end but it just exacerbated those insecurities once he was with her. So I think the fact they did have little conflicts but got through them until the end of the season was true to the characters.

Season 2 they were intentionally kept apart and given separate love interests because they saw the actors chemistry from the very beginning especially after the snail hunting episode and didn't want the fans to experience it too soon! They always intended on putting the characters together but they didn't want to do it too soon in the series and felt like they needed to develop the characters individually first! The plan was to put them together cause angst and drama for Dawson/Joey and Pacey and then reunite Dawson/Joey in the end as endgame soulmates however the Pacey/Joey pairing was a huge ratings success and took on a life of its own forever changing the trajectory of the show!

@@sarakennedy2633 in season 4 when Joey gets drunk and she and Pacey fight Dawson sees them and later tells Gretchen that he'd seen them happy seen them kiss and that he'd just seen them fight and it was even worse than seeing them happy because he could see how deeply they felt for each other! To me that speaks volumes and basically says it all!

This is fantastic - I usually hate fan videos but this is brilliantly done! I did a similar thing last Summer re-watching all of the seasons and didn't realise how annoying Dawson was and how great Pacey and Joey were together. Thank you so much for uploading!

While i was a DJ fan during its original run, now looking back DJ were too dysfunctional in a romantic relationship. Yes they were soulmates but soulmates are not always romantic or meant to last. They made better friends and that friendship was the heart of the show. Pacey and Joey had so much more chemistry together and i am happy now that ended up together. I believe Dawson should have ended up with Jen. Im still upset they killed her off.
