I miss my grandfather. Capt 163rd infantry, New Guinea, received wounds as first lieutenant, stormed the beaches again after receiving the purple hear, made captain later during the war. He fought this war to end all wars. Thank you Grandfather for serving this great nation. Died November 13th 2000

Analysis... Overall, the music evokes the sadness of Honor, the battlefield of Glory, paid for with the blood of boys. Horrible, yet sometimes unavoidable, and calling upon us to respect and remembrance. If listened at higher volume or headset, there is tympani (base drum) that evokes distant explosions. The occasional red stain evokes both blood and the Japanese Rising Sun flag . The charcoal is used as a drawing implement, but when fractured, evokes both shrapnel and emotion....the intense emotion of the Artist, because the Artist is remembering. He was there. This is his story.

Amazing. As others have said, The Pacific has the best opening sequence I've ever seen on television. The director's cut is visionary.

I have heard this theme like ten times now and every time I hear it, my breath catches in my throat and tears come to my eyes. You know what it is? It's that low, mournful, understated, four-note horn refrain. The theme manages to use it like 5 times and each time it's different - says something different but always sad and proud at the same time. "We are Marines" it says "This is where we fought. This is where we died, this is who we WERE"...amazing

This was an earlier cut that I liked better. We worked on this over a long period of time, so it kept changing along the way. I wound up doing something like 33 drawings all together. I feel like it was at it's best around this time. I like the drawing we had in this one, and the visual linked best with the high points in the score.

@stevefullertv The intro was composed beautifully. I can see why many drawings had to be cut as they probably wanted to convey that the pacific focuses on the 3 marines sledge, leckie and john. The best parts are how the charcoal medium excess blends into the explosions, and the closeup of the charcoal being sharpened symbolic of the weapons used in war.

@jeremiahjw The casio stuff was replaced by Phantom footage in the final piece. But in this version, which is our animatic it's used in a few places. When the two lines make a cross, the swipe at the end before Tom Hanks credit. I think it was 300fps.

You contributed to a iconic, great and successful series. I was inspired by the the music of Hans Zimmer, Geoff Zanelli & Blake Neely and used it for educational purposes for a Tribute video of my Dad's hero, a Marine who fought in the Pacific, Roy Auer, here on KZbin. @iStaLLionZ The drawings are supposed to represent artists in the field - you can tell because the works are left purposely unfinished to simulate the shifts in activity on the battlefield. The charcoal breaking is supposed to be symbolic, representing shrapnel and the explosiveness of war.
@Dauntless-ut4mm7 жыл бұрын
I was wondering if I was the only one who got that. Although I also pulled from it that the breaking charcoal was symbolic of the destruction that is experienced in WW2, but once all the bits and pieces are gone and the mess is cleaned up in leaves a beautiful drawing. I feel its trying to bring across the beauty that is buried deep beneath the destruction and pain and suffering. This is something I got from The Pacific and Band of Brothers because no matter how bad everything got you could see glimmers of incredible humanity among the soldiers and between people. I'm no expert but its something I've always drawn from these two masterpieces.

@wvufanngarner yes, the charcoal in my opinion symbolizes the history that is writen with a cost, and the red symbolizes where blood is spilled. Im glade to see that that their story is told and we may learn from their experience so we may learn for better, and god bless them
