It is worth mentioning that the Nationals have one very good pitcher, one good pitcher, one decent pitcher, and two God-awful pitchers. Then they have exactly three good relievers, with everyone else in their pen being a flaming shit-storm. So sometimes people are shocked when teams destroy the Nats one day and get shut out the next, but it can really just be as simple as running into them on the day Gray is pitching, and the pen is fresh.

We haven't won anything other than a couple of offseasons and last year's trade deadline, and we're prancing around like we own the place, with cringe-rap fan videos, smugness, and that Kershaw meme was the last straw. The baseball gods have ways dealing with arrogance, and they're definitely pissed off at us. We need to stay humble and let the playing on the field to the talking... PADRES PROBLEM DEBUNKED. The player’s only meeting worked when they had it. They played selfless baseball and strung together 3 series wins, 1 against the red hot Rays where they played simple winning baseball and bunted 3 times in a row (3rd bunt layed down by Tatis Jr to move the runners into scoring position for Soto who then drove in the winning runs) THEN, the 4 game series in San Francisco happened where the obvious culprit of the Padres failures was revealed. Before i get into that i want to say this. The media and fans seemed to be obsessed with the “leaving runners in scoring position” dilemma, so a small group of very knowledgeable high level baseball coaches in the San Diego area including myself have been dissecting why that is continuing to plague the Padres and that is MANAGEMENT or lack there of! Tatis & Soto statistically throughout their careers (so far) are most effective in their 1 & 2 slots and THEY are producing somewhat consistently so leave them there, but the obvious problem day in & day out is the 3 & 4 hitters (Machado & Bogaerts) hitting into double plays RELIGIOUSLY and killing every rally the Padres offense starts. I refuse to believe that a coach as smart as Bob Melvin would not at least experiment with other hitters at the 3&4 slots, so either the players have a say in the lineup or AJ Preller & Peter Seidler want their hundreds of millions of dollars worth of hitters to hit at the top and are willing to lose because of it. Theoretically you want the 4 superstars at the top of the order, but when that is repeatedly failing you, it’s time to switch things around. Moving HSK to lead off changes nothing if Machado & Bogaerts continue to follow Soto in the lineup. Try Moving HSK to the 3 (at least he’s fast enough to avoid being doubled up if he does hit a ground ball) & bring Gary Sanchez back into the clean up slot because he has a strike out or long fly ball swing, not a beat a ball into the ground right to the shortstop kind of swing…then have Machado at the 5 to eat some humble pie and whether you put Bogaerts at the 6 or 7, he can extend the line up and provide a spark towards the bottom part of the order (that has been our idea for almost a month now, but unfortunately we have no way of contacting the Padres management or analytics department and relaying this information) Back to the San Francisco series. With the Padres heating up and facing a red hot Giants team in San Francisco, they were winning 4-2 going into the 9th inning. A 2 run lead against a scrappy and well coached red hot baseball team is NEVER the time to “try to get a struggling Luis Garcia going” (Bob Melvins words after that loss) especially when you are fighting to get back to being a .500 ball club. Yet Bob Melvin makes a terrible decision and lets Garcia face 4 batters instead of the minimum of 3 after he starts the inning off clearing having the yips and throwing 6 straight balls not even anywhere near the strike zone…then in the top of the 10th inning with Tatis on 2nd base and Soto on 1st after the INT walk, with NO OUTS, Bob Melvin refuses to have the balls to tell a struggling Manny Machado to bunt them into scoring position and Machado strikes out and then Bogaerts does what….you guessed it, he grounds into an inning ending double play and the Giants walk it off with all of the momentum in the bottom of the 10th after their coach orders their hitter to put a bunt down after we intentionally walked their first hitter (a common sense move that Bob Melvin can’t seem to remember how to do) The very next night the Padres had yet ANOTHER lead late in the game and Bob Melvin mismanaged yet again and then brings in Hader in a horrible situation with the bases loaded to walk in the winning run in the bottom of the 9th. Then game 3 we all know what happened because when it rains it pours and the MLB decides to misinterpret their own rule and negate an incredible out #3 missile by Tatis to home plate stating that “Gary Sanchez started the play in an illegal position” yet video evidence shows Gary standing in front of home plate when Tatis released the baseball and the throw carryed him into the baseline 15 feet up the 3rd base line where he easily tags the runner out who should have never ran in the first place and that overturned call by New York resulted in 3 extra runs that inning and gave San Francisco the lead…after taking game 4 in convincing fashion since that is apparently the only way the Padres can win baseball games right now because the coaches have forgotten how to coach in close baseball games, the Padres have gone 1-5 (against the Nationals & Pirates) and have fallen to to 7 games under .500 while Machado & Bogaerts CONTINUE to hit 3 & 4 in the batting order. There is zero chemistry, zero coaching and zero leadership in the Padres clubhouse right now and unless the Padres wake up in these next 9 games against the red hot Reds and then the Angels & Mets back in San Diego, they are going to go into the all star break 10 games under .500 and they will become sellers and start to dismantle a baseball team built to win a world series all due to mismanagement. Such a shame to watch a team with so much potential lose at least 10-15 games this season due to coaching, but it is what it is. If i were the GM i would fire Bob Melvin and bring in Tatis Sr as the new skipper because 1 his Dominican roots would immediately create a respectable bond between coaching and your superstar players and im sure he would not be afraid to put Jr and these superstars in their place, 2 it could be a big factor in Soto perhaps wanting to stay in San Diego & 3 it would create another MLB father-son duo which would bring more attention and money to the franchise which apparently will lose money after the Bally Sports collapse.

And if this team fails to contend in 2023 - San Diego is facing a fire sale even worse than 2015 - because this team has no farm left and no hope of contending any time soon, as Snell and Hader are FAs, and Soto's a year away from free agency - the even bigger problem is that the underperforming contracts of Bogaerts, Machado, Darvish are unmovable due to the $$$ and years involved. Basically, the Padres are SCREWED.

Last year was the Pads year, and Tatis hijacked it! Time to trade him back to the White Sox for Kopech and Cease. Then the Pads would not have to rely on rookie starters (Weathers, Kerr, Khner) and could even trade Darvish to loosen up some payroll. (Pads should send Cronenworth to the White Sox too, but I'm not sure they'd want him.)

The interesting part is that the padres actually have a POSITIVE run differential this season. That tells you that they just cant score runs when it counts. Just absurd that you can have a positive differential and still be well out of playing .500 ball

Take away the two most recent blowouts and the Padres have a negative differential. Our Pitching has been absolute nails this year. Fewest Earned runs allowed in the NL, yet we so often lose games because of 1 or 2 ER. I cant imagine we are far off from the team that gets shut out the most this year.

Im a padres fan and it sure has been frustrating but this season is now where close to over. Darvish got his pre season prep screwed by WBC so i'm not worried about him. boegarts got hit on wrist in late april and hasn't been the same since. Manny is just having a down year but its bad for manny standards. hitting with RISP and winning close games have been our cryptonite. i am not throwing this year away yet but they are trying really hard to make me want to

no chemistry on their team. They put loads of money onto the team but everyone in the lineup cares about the name on the back rather than the name on the front of the jersey. Look at the Rays for instance.. lowest payroll and all 9 of those guys are underrated and there isn’t one big star on that team besides Arozarena

The Padres have many problems where do you start but one of the biggest problems they’ve had is if they think that they’re better than everybody else it’s amazing to me how they put down other teams that actually beat them. Do you have to ask yourself? What does that say about you do to overly impressed with themselves and they’re just not that good
@EliT347

I see some people in blogs and on other sites talking about how they might "turn it around" after the ASG. Here's the problem - it's almost July, and this team is still finding ways to underperform expectations. At what point do we start talking about how to fix these offensive problems rather than when do they find the time to get hot? It's infuriating to watch this team, even being a non-fan, and there's a clear lack of accountability in the front office as to who catches the blame.

Imagine if after LeBron's huge announcement the Heat didn't even make the playoffs. Hugely embarrassing season for the Padres already for a franchise that hasn't had too many times they've manage to exceed expectations besides the 2022 NLDS.

@kyleochoa9004 Жыл бұрын
I don't know WHY it works this way, but if you look at the most under-preforming teams in baseball (Mets, Padres) against the most successful teams (Braves, Rays, Orioles, D-backs) and the big surprise teams like the Reds and Marlins there's a pattern. Good teams are built organically maybe adding a free agent signing or trade to fill a hole every now and then. Teams that just try to sign every expensive free agent or get every big trade piece end up being bad. It even holds if you look back at the Dodgers and Astros success or the Angels constant failure. You have to build up a team that can play their roles and win together, then if you need a first baseman or a left fielder you can add those guys to the winning team and culture and they will click in. You can't just buy a team. I promise the Rays vs NL All-stars or Braves vs AL All-stars the all star teams would lose 8 out of 10 because they are great players but not a great team.

1. A relatively talentless NBA team sometimes plays poorly for a better upcoming draft slot, but upps the Padres are already supposedly “loaded with superstar talent”, so they aren’t biding their time till the Team drafts better players. 2. Sometimes a team wins a championship and the next season they are emotionally drained and underperform due to not being as hungry. Can someone tell the Pads that they didn’t win the Pennant or the World Series last season. They performed well in two 2022 playoff rounds and then were outmatched. Result this 2023 season: The Padres aren’t that talented. They have bloated salaries. They don’t play inspirational baseball. Each player doesn’t seem to hold himself highly accountable to bring about team success. Meaning they look over their shoulder for the next guy to get the job done, instead of getting it done themselves. Too many pretty boy stars, and not enough grind it out competitors.

He keeps making very subjective and hyperbolic videos, and when they don’t preform well he deletes them. I love his objective content and his coverage. But he should stay away from hot takes. I’m getting more and more disenchanted with him every time I see a video where he makes these huge statements that really are super over reactive. If he wants to grow he needs to stop attacking teams, stop saying controversial things about people’s favorite players and teams, and just report the news with his good and entertaining style.
