To me what ever knife you are carrying is a survival knife depending on what kind of day you are having. Hunting, camping, bushcraft , hiking , kayaking , exploring etc. is not survival, but as we know all these activities can put you in a survival situation. So the knife you are carrying at that time is your survival knife. So when I think about survival that would hopefully be a short term event that I’m doing skills to keep me alive until I am rescued or do self rescue.

The Glock knife isn't made for Bushcraft just like the Gerber strongarm they're tailored to military needs, not for whittling sticks

I cant think of a single situation where you need to break stone, rebar or concrete with a knife....even in a SHTF-NUCLEAR-ZOMBIE apocalypse. If you use it that way, you dont have a knife afterwords. If your survival skills suck that hard, you wont survive anyway. Use the knife for what it is meant for.

A lopper and chopper that can, whittle, stab, fillet, and be carried for days on end is a good all around knife. Note: knives are not pry bars. A lopper and chopper can make a better shelter faster with less energy expenditure. I'm a fan of drop point, spear point, tanto, seaxe style.

The original Glock knife, with a spear point and without a sawback, was the combat knife of Germany's GSG9, their counterterrorist organization. The Austrian army later adopted it, and the GSG9 adopted the Boker Orca.

The Glock knife has one of the best sheaths I've ever used. Also, the guard on the knife doubles as a bottle opener if you flip it upside down. Yeah, the edge on it isn't the greatest though but works okay sharpening with a v-sharp.

I have soent my whole life in the wild, ive been to jungles, frozen tundras etc & i can either carry 1 heavy duty "survival knife" or multiple smaller but more useable/ useful knives. I personally prefer the latter.

To be fair to the Glock, you never put your index finger in front of the guard (made me crazy waiting for it lol). I'm also old school and reprofiling a factory edge used to just be what you do. The Glock has a blade angle that isn't much different than a medium sized Saber without the heavy top half of the blade. Put a better edge angle on it and choke up your finger and then give it a go. This is also a knife that can be thrown which is rare. The sheath is pure genius and it amazes me the people that can't seem to get it out of the sheath. Simply slide your hand down the handle as if it were on your hip. Then your thumb will go behind the latch and push. It is very minimalist, secure, locks on the belt, ambi, combat proven, etc. The "root" saw is more like a ripper, but has its real utility. Scraping fine tender and fatwood shavings is easy, scoring around branches with the corner to break them to length, it acts as a rasp when carving, makes fast notches for cordage. The ability to rip through metal or cut plastic like a 55 gal drum would never be possible with the other knives, but a new edge angle and choking up makes for a decent work knife considering. You can also use the leg tie hole bump to put a knot in paracord and wrap it up the sheath and end it by a double knot tucked behind the lock for easy on and off. A few wraps under the lock I have a 2 hole ferro rod tucked in on the cord horizontal. Under that cord I have two 2" wide strips of gorilla tape (fire starter, first aid etc.) with a wind of electrical between them. Under that is a large leather needle and some small fishhooks. So if you include urban/modern environments and the ultimate survival of self defense, battlefields, unrest etc. then the Glock as a survival knife is the winner. I still default to a regular old stainless Companion Clipper as a neck knife for most things though. I want to see you test run a BK9 "do everything" knife with the heavy upgraded Kabar micarta handle scales...and the BK7 for that matter. Maybe you did long ago and I missed them. All the best as always, and thanks for the videos. Mike. Oh yeah, at one time it was the field knife for 5 countries, not sure about now though. Also, the 78 has no saw but very rare now and I think even the 81 with saw (1978/1981) is now discontinued as well. There are fakes. It seems you can tell by whether the plastic feels like a Glock or cheap. The Glock handgun came from the knife.

I am an ESEE user. Never had let me down. My favorite is the ESEE 3 for EDC and I keep the ESEE 6 in my get home/get off the X - bag. The 6 does everything well and the 3 is an incredible all around knife that does fire and food prep equally as well as it preforms as a combat/defensive knife. What I like about it is it can be worn as a neck knife, in a pocket, forward scout, appendix IWB, boot knife carry, ect. The ESEE 3 is just the right knife for me.

Well said Brother. I have never really done any bushcraft. More military and hunting. I do like a combat utility blade as it gives me a degree of reassurance and utility however I love the A1 and your explanation about blade manipulation. The Glock is good value though. 🇺🇸 🇳🇿

I take a close choke on the edge of my Glock 78 placing my Index against the front side of the down finger guard, like a trigger, and my thumb on the spine, so i can use the very start of the cutting edge with precisión and power. If upper guard bothers you can cut It and file round It, then you'll get total ese of access to the spine to rest your thumb on It. This upper guard only has the purpose to rest against the flash supresor of the Steyr Aug assault rifle, when using the Glock Knife as bayonet. The other intended use as bottle oppener of this guard, can be performed with the spine of the knife. I carry my Glock 78 as EDC and It is a good all around Edge, including bushcraft and survival tasks and doubles as a nice stabby and slashing knife if need arise.

I don't get people like joe-x or to some extent "survival Lilly". Sure it's kinda entertaining to see what a blade can take in abuse,,but i think it's ridiculous to ruin a good blade. It's a tool. It's made to do a job,,not to be indestructable.

Lot of common sense in this video, youre right, dont really understand why a 'survival' knife has to be unbreakable! If you get yourself into a 'situation' and you only have one cutting tool on you it would be absolute stupidity to ask it to do more than it is designed to do. There are plenty of alternative ways to provide firewood, shelter and split wood other than abusing your only knife. Very often the best tool you have is your brain.!

If you think that you're gonna survive making little traps and "fine work on wood" I suggest you to dedicate to wood sculpture or some... if bushcraft is your thing, outstanding!!! But don't go on muddy waters trying to blend it with survivalsm, that's fantasy.
