It looks the mongrels nuts. Love the colour choice. Having seen you do every job on it from the ground up it was only right that you painted it as well. Your perseverance is legendary. P. S. Check out "amazing trick for removing paint run" KZbin video. The guy covers the run with filler to act as a guide for sanding. Looks a neat trick.

Looking good, nice colour too. Dunno what your plans are with the runs, I use stanley knife blades to scrape as much off as possible before sanding to avoid sanding through the surrounding paint. I'll grind the sharp blade points off and put tape on the surrounding paint to avoid scratching it. I'm better at removing runs than I am at spraying....

Roll the edge of a single edge razor blade by pulling it on a piece of 400 grit sandpaper. You do this on only one side of the blade. You want to create a bur on the one side of the blade. Then take the side with the bur and pull it over the high spots of the run to cut it off layer by layer. You’ll be amazed at how well it works, it even works great on clear coat. It’s much faster and better than sanding down the runs. Good job Matt.

A good tip between coats is to use the back of your finger, for me right hand finger next to my thumb. Gentle touch around the panels that look wet. Be discreet, on edges where the next coat will cover. If you get paint on the back of your finger, hold off on the next coat. Touch and sticky but not leaving paint on your finger, good to go. I've been painting for over 30 years as a good amateur.

top job mat, for a first attempt you did real good just dont open the door when painting as all the shit goes straight in the wet paint, try a large fan and put it in the wall to draw out the mist. Also wet the floor that will help with dust as a rule of thumb, keep your spray gun 6 to 8 inches away from the car but also that you mix the paint correctly not that im saying you havent but generaly 2 to 1 ratio , and regulate the air to the gun by investing in a air regulator then set gun to 28 / 33 psi the you should be good to go

You've done well for your first go. After you get a feel for the gun and how it sprays, and your mix along with the air temp and humidity, you'll lay on great paint jobs. It's really easy to rush into re-coating and not allow the previous coat to "flash", or release most of the aromatics and tack up. Yep, it is just like welding. The better equipment and experience will see you doing better jobs.

Im sure there have been other comments, but there are so many, the best way to deal with the runs is to actually bog over the runs before sanding them back. That way you dont sand off the good low spots. Sand off all the bog and the runs come off perfectly evenly.

Hi Matt That's a great result for a first time painting a car. Once it's colour sanded and polished out it will look like a multi thousand pound paint job. There's some great tips on KZbin on how to remove those runs and sags by sanding without going through to the primer. It involves using the very fine body stopper, have a look. Whenever I have painted a car in similar conditions to those you have I will always wet the floor down. It really keeps the dust down to a minimum. Cheers

I just painted my first car and used THE GUNMAN as a guide, I bought an ANEST IWATA W400 gun, good mid price gun and had a nice finish for me? 2 BIGGEST things I learnt; make sure the vent in the lid is not blocked wind the fan setting on the gun 4 full rotations out from closed - helps alot with even overlaps etc

That looks great Matt. Those minor issues are super easy fixes as long as you don’t rush through the scuff n buff. Neat trick for the sags and avalanche (good term) is to let it cure, lightly cover the sag with a fine no mix type putty, (dry wall mud works) let that dry and sand the run gone. The putty protects the paint around the run. Buff it out and BOOM you have a pro looking job. Pretty close to it already for a bashful novice. The better gun will help. I suggest watching the paint hit the car. What it looks like going on is how it will look dry unless your too slow or close. Those both cause the sagging runs you showed us. Spot on for the color too. I am so happy you decided not to roller a dull coat. This looks way better and you have lots to be pleased about in regard to the finished product thus far. I’ve gotta get in on this next raffle though. Cheers mate and good video once again but what about that starting clap? It’s okay, that you left it out, made me jump almost every time lol

I think you're using single stage so those runs are easy to address. To sand them out, apply a tiny bit of filler (glazing putty would work fine) right over the area where the runs are and sand it flat. The filler and runs will be flattened at the same time. The filler helps keep the sanding block from digging in inadvertently vs sanding just the runs. When the filler is gone, the runs will be gone too and everything at the same level. Or..hell with it because racecar. Colour is friggen fantastic! Sweet job Matt.

What has worked for me is taping the edges of a razor blade (3 wounds of masking tape) and scarping the runs and then sand with 600 or 1000 grit sandpaper, buff and awesome result. It´s not the end of the world :) Try painting different surface like plastic, metal and paper in one go and see the difference how it lays down.

Hi Matt thanks for posting. It looks like it is cold in your shop. The base material temperature will affect the flash off of the paint (along with the ambient temp) allowing the paint to run, you may need a heater to bump the temp to at least 21C. Also the milky finish in your paint could be condensation in you air line. If your not already try two filter regulators first set to 85psi, second set to spray pressure eg,40-60psi and you will see large amount of condensation in the separator bowls. Just a couple of ideas from when I have sprayed at home similar set up
